No - Facebook's chock full of brand spoofs from fly-by-night outfits (often Chinese) who take orders from customers thinking they're buying from the named brand. The customers then receive shoddy knock-offs and find there's no customer service or return facility.

It can be Facebook and still be fake.

If it's fake the links will not take you to the genuine VW site. That cardigan and skirt are not on sale on VW. They are on sale via Lyst and Far Fetch, which are genuine. The site you have screenshotted looks like a fake site.

It's a man ? That wasn't my first or any thought 🤷‍♀️ it's amazing how a simple advertisement can provoke such a range of attitudes.

It's like how I despise all of those sack dresses that make you look like a Mormon sister wife from Idaho wearing her grandmother's hand-me-downs, but they're always recommended on here. No accounting for taste and all that!

No one was saying you were making it up!! No one meant 'fake' in the sense that YOU had faked it. Fake = scammers advert, not real Westwood. Not that it didn't exist on FB at all!

I thought it was fairly clear from my posts that I was saying I thought it was a fake advert in the sense that it was not a genuine Vivienne Westwood brand advert and was likely to be from a scam site in China or elsewhere. So you click on it - duped by the advert - thinking you are getting genuine Westwood goods via a genuine brand advert - but it takes you to a scam site.

Looking at your post of where it went to, it looks like that was right.

It's a fairly common scam. there was a lot of publicity recently around Martha Brook stationery advent calendar (which was sold out) being attacked by scam ads. If you scroll to the bottom of this page you can see examples of the scam - a lot of these were much better quality than the ad OP posted here as they used the actual Martha Brook photographs

If you ever see something you like on a FB, Instagram or Tiktok ad, you are much better off taking the name of the product and googling for the official site as if you just click through you may be being scammed.

People aren't disputing that it's a Facebook ad. They are disputing that the link will take you to the genuine Vivienne Westwood website.

You see similar ads on Instagram all the time - not for such high end stuff but I often get ads saying 'Sketchers' which takes me through to a link for generic cheap trainers.

I don't understand. That's the official VW FB page that has posted the advert, with the blue tick. And the link takes you to the official VW website as shown in the screenshots. What's the scam?

I mean there are plenty of fake brand scams, but they don't unusually involve the company themselves posting an advert that then directs you to the company's official website to buy their own goods. That page that posted the advert has 1.1million followers and is quite clearly the VW official FB page, with events and posts going back years and years.

And as for the 'it's a man' stuff, MN is becoming a parody of itself about trans stuff honestly. Be a woman with masculine features and/ or wear heavy/dramatic make-up and be called a man. Ridiculous.
