Sudacrem price riseI went to buy Sudacrem cream recently and saw that the price for a 400g pot was x3 more expensive than my last purchase!

A quick Google reveals :

Sadly doesn’t work on psoriasis. But then again nothing does.

You can get prescriptions for that. Ask your GP.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 23/10/2024 02:03

I'm Irish and I bought this when oldest DC was born
It was on the recommended list from the maternity ward and I had no idea what it was for but I obeyed the rules and packed it in my bag. DC is in their thirties now and the unopened, unneeded pot of mystery cream was binned years ago. I also binned the wee free pots that I got in Bounty bags

I probably have mine somewhere too 😂 mine is nearly 19...

Mines been used and refilled many times, perfect size to carry around.

Would it work for vaginal soreness itching and is it ok to use it for that?

I’ve used it before and it’s been great, just wear old knickers as it will stain. It won’t work for thrush though.

Dodie66 · 23/10/2024 17:42

AliceMcK Thankyou. I’ll try it and wear a pad 🙂🙂

Mirrrors · 23/10/2024 19:49

I didn’t know it was made in Israel, I’ll add it to my boycott list!

mamaandbabas · 23/10/2024 21:25

Still have flash backs when my oldest DD got a hold of a pot when she was a toddler and covered herself and her bedroom in it when I was in the toilet 😆

IlluminatiParty · 24/10/2024 11:21

I can't stand the smell of it! Never thought it was much cop for nappy rash I just used zinc and castor oil which was next to nothing off brand and didn't have that weird smell.

I'd kill for a tin of old pink Germolene though 😂

FOXYMORON1707 · 26/10/2024 12:28

It is owned by Teva, but still made in Ireland. According to their website, it's made by Tosara Pharmaceuticals . I looked them up and they have premises in Cork and Dublin.

I worked in the production factory in Ireland and was made redundant last year. I can categorically say that just a few years after they took us over they closed us down and moved the factory and all of it's equipment to a site in Bulgaria in order "to allow for expansion". For licensing reasons, as it's a medical license it's much easier to keep the license address based in the original country where it was applied for, thats why our old address is still on the jar, but rest assured beyond an office, nothing else remains.
I will not speak to the topic of boycotting Israeli products, but T*a themselves are very hard taskmasters, the 100 plus workers in our company were meeting the demands to make upwards of 37 million units required for the international market (!), and when they took us over we had already agreed a deal to expand our site having agreed a deal to buy the vacant factory adjacent next to us. But somehow that didn't suit the expansion plans eh? We were just a very small fraction of the workforce cut after T*as corporate expansion at time, a global expansion to maybe 60k, reduced by 17k after one year, I think the axe fell on us after 8 years. No doubt this is done to pass on savings to the customer. How's that working out I wonder.

That said Sudocrem (spelt correctly in about 20% of the posts which I'm loving!) is an excellent product. I understand that it doesn't work for all skin types but for those it does it can be effective, especially for waterproofing wounds and as it also has antiseptic healing qualities.

Jaybail · 26/10/2024 20:24

I have a tub. If my life depended on it I couldn't tell you when I bought it but I reckon there's a good decade's worth left!

Everybody needs to read, digest and be fully aware of the contents of this post.

l doubt whether there are savings to the customer though!

Me too!

@ApartFromAllThat hope you have found work since.

Your post was interesting - a corporate move within Europe, but still able to keep the original licence. I wonder for how long? Has this happened a lot to companies based in Ireland. There were such generous tax breaks for a very long time. But yes one has to question how a corporation based outside the EU can so easily move production of a regulated product to a country where perhaps standards are not so rigorously applied.

I also won't comment on the boycott of Israeli products, apart to say I am probably in disagreement with most on this thread who have commented specifically on this matter. 7th Oct.

drspouse · 26/10/2024 22:52

I thought we'd have ours forever but towards the end of the nappy regime one of the DCs smeared a whole pot over the bedroom including carpet, curtains and window.
We switched to Weleda.

I think if they maintain the status quo, they can keep the license there indefinitely. They do have another larger pharma site in Ireland in Waterford, completely unrelated to manufacturing Sudocrem. Hoping very much for their sake that they are too complex a facility to be moved. They are a massive corporation, currently owning probably hundreds of companies worldwide, with a workforce at around 36,000. Much reduced from the 57,000 they had on the books when they completed their major acquisition inc little old us in 2016. The mind boggles how they can take over, slash and burn many companies, with the firing of over 20000 people. Perhaps a bit like the plotline of the movie Pretty Woman without Julia Roberts intervention.
Ironically for all the talk of boycotting them due to the ongoing conflict, they certainly aren't universally loved at home; as they were an equal opportunities company when it came to layoffs.

On more positive news, myself and most, not all, of my former colleagues are back in employment. It's a shame our Sudocrem story had to end, we worked hard and had a lot of fun with all the nappy pseudo cream jokes you see here, but these jokes aside, I was proud to work for a company with over 90 years of history. Every so often a news story or a meme would break that would get us all laughing, like that one where we apparently needed to respond to the use of it on an impaled Roman head! Or Madonna posting a selfie of herself in her knick knacks in her bathroom, with a tub of Sudocrem spotted lurking behind her!

Not Irish any more - owned by Teva, the Israeli pharma company. On the boycott list!

Stunning and brave.

LIJ · 27/10/2024 09:50

Fellow Scottish Mum 😂😂😂. Brin tumour “aye rub some
Sudocreme on it..it’s magic!”
my daughter who is a Health Visitor of 12 years avoids against it as says it had “drying qualities best not indicated for babies”!
I blame her English Dad. He doesn’t “keep the faith”!

Emma8888 · 27/10/2024 13:26

I'm very allergic to sudocrem (it's the zinc, not the lanolin for me) and have subsequently been told by a dermatologist that more babies than you'd think are also allergic, but parents think what they are seeing is nappy rash and slap more of the cream on them!

Now Vaseline, that's miracle stuff. My dermatologist recommended it for eczema, dermatitis and other issues and it really works well. I have a massive pot that never gets below 1/3 used.

It’s so thick, I assumed it clogs pores!

It doesn’t clog pores, or cause spots.Only a small amount is needed.

Just got back from holiday in Tenerife and I was charged almost €15 for a standard tub of Sudocrem - had to double check the price with the pharmacy but they confirmed it was correct price.

White petroleum jelly is very good, and costs less than £2. It is used to treat burns as paraffin gel.

If you look at the ingredients of quite a lot of those fancy creams you pay through the nose for you can mix them yourself without the chemical additions. Of course you won't have factory machinery to whisk it up lighter, so that it looks all white and good, but you will save money.

Vaseline has a lot of uses. When the air is dry, put a dab of it inside your kids' nostrils on a cotton bud and it will soften crusts and stop the kids picking their noses. If you need to use a Vick inhaler on the child's chest, put on Vaseline first, as sometimes the Vick is strong.

Keep some with you. When you bark your shin or elbow, put some fat/petroleum jelly on it immediately. It will soften the skin, so when a lump starts, the skin will stretch instead of split. Ulcers on shins take months to heal.
