Sudacrem price riseI went to buy Sudacrem cream recently and saw that the price for a 400g pot was x3 more expensive than my last purchase!

A quick Google reveals :

Supermarkets do their own brands, much cheaper, not sure if as good?

Mandaxx25 · 21/10/2024 20:56

Addictedtococacola · 20/10/2024 19:01

I used to use it for everything.
But now it's banned from our house cause ds will eat it and if someone has used it he will lick them. Ds has pica so sudacrem is one of many banned thing in our house.

I have pica when I get low iron. Could it be that causing his?

Mandaxx25 · 21/10/2024 20:56

I've only ever used it for baby bums or burns. We've gotten through quite a few big tubs with 8 kids over the years

Deeperthantheocean · 21/10/2024 20:57

MakeMeATea · 20/10/2024 19:57

Not in our case, it's very drying so when I put it on mine and ds eczema it really itched and made it much worse.
Great for cuts, scrapes, bug bites as a disinfectant and to soothe, so we still have a pot, not very moisturising though.

Agree, it's not moisturising at all, more a thick coat for healing. X

This. Like a plaster.

Has anyone found it effective for eczema? DS has very persistent eczema and I have a big pot of this and never thought to try it for that

@KatRee The only thing that worked for mine and my child's persistent eczema (a year long bad outbreak, tried everything, steroids made worse) was coconut oil. Put it on morning and night for a few weeks and see if it helps. It cleared ours up in about a month and it didn't return. It's antibacterial, antifungal and makes you smell delicious!

Spinshine · 21/10/2024 21:20

Yup, babies and now big babies, dogs, horses and even the geese have been known to have a dose 😅

mathanxiety · 21/10/2024 21:46

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/10/2024 21:17

I'm out of step with Mumsnet on this as I hate Sudocrem!

It's vile, icky-sticky stuff and, back in the day when my DCs were babies was one of the main causes of severe nappy rash as mothers plastered it on their babies' bums, it transferred to the nappy surface which made it less absorbent and caused horrendous rash, almost like burns.

Ditto. I used an American ointment called A+D, which was made of fish oil. It worked marvelously. I used only one tube of it from 1990 to 2003.

dementedpixie · 20/10/2024 16:50

I still have it in the house even though my youngest is 18. Always find this amusing (being a Scottish mum 🤣)

Ha ha yes we still have half a pot and my son is 14. He now uses for spots and swears by it. Brilliant stuff.. I'm.sure the pot will outlive me

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 20/10/2024 16:52

Do people buy it? I thought it just appeared in your house.

Like Vaseline- do people even buy that?

Mt61 · 21/10/2024 22:45

CaveMum · 20/10/2024 20:49

Always a tub Sudocrem or a tube of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream in use in this house!

I like the 24 hr cream but I don’t like the smell

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 21/10/2024 23:04

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/10/2024 20:29

Vaseline for just about everything here. Or Germolene, though that's not as good as it used to be old gimmer

Me too - although after reading this thread I'm wondering if I still have some Sudocrem hanging around.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 21/10/2024 23:17

ItReallyWasAgathaAllAlong · 20/10/2024 19:47

I have some tubs that are an exact replica that I’ll happily sell for a low, low price.

DM me if you want to order some Pseudocrem.

Quite brilliant 👏👏

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 21/10/2024 23:18

@Loobieloogold @moodybluehpc and everyone else who has used it on their dogs - is it not dangerous if the dog tries to lick it off ?

Toddlerteaplease · 21/10/2024 23:19

Singleandproud · 20/10/2024 19:35

Weird to know how they ever made a profit when each household only needs 1 pot to last three decades 🤣

😂

JustGettingStarted · 20/10/2024 23:40

Won't be rebuying then if it's not Irish anymore.

Edited

That's a daft reason not to buy it..

Politygal · 21/10/2024 23:30

Irish born, now owned by an Israeli company.

theotherplace · 22/10/2024 00:07

We still have a huge pot that I got from Costco when dd1 was born 7 years ago. I now use it on dd2.

All the time.

The linked piece says its now produced by pharma giant Teva in Israel. I didn't know that.

It is owned by Teva, but still made in Ireland. According to their website, it's made by Tosara Pharmaceuticals . I looked them up and they have premises in Cork and Dublin.

Udonoodles4Tea · 22/10/2024 06:31

Nothing to do with price hikes etc, but I always had a special designated pot of sudacrem for my tiny dwarf bunny who was allergic to mites that live in hay. Poor chap 🤦‍♀️ I washed and dried all of his hay, but sometimes they still got him, he'd pull all of his chest fur out and have horrible boils, which I would then slather in sudacrem (and occasionally make him a special jumper out of an old woolly sock)

He is Autistic his last set of bloods his iron levels where good. We give him vitamins with iron in them. One thing that was anbonrmal was his thyroid but they hoping that will correct itself without treatment.

That doesn't explain the price hike.

HarrietsweetHarriet · 22/10/2024 08:38

I've got some Bepanthen lying around. Any recommendations for uses other than nappy rash? X

BattedAnEyebrow · 20/10/2024 19:38

I've still got the tiny one from my Bounty pack. Dd is 20.

I probably have mine somewhere too 😂 mine is nearly 19...
