Sudacrem price riseI went to buy Sudacrem cream recently and saw that the price for a 400g pot was x3 more expensive than my last purchase!

Has anyone found it effective for eczema? DS has very persistent eczema and I have a big pot of this and never thought to try it for that

I’ve found it can dry eczema out too much, but best tip I had from baby’s HV was to use a very thin layer so the skin can still breathe through it

I was an au pair/nanny in London in the 90’s, sometimes I worked for families only for a couple of days or weeks. There was a lovely American family with a 2- and 4-year old I think, and as I was quickly making them tea just before the mum were to come home, they played in their room. I had given them a bath, tidied up and everything was ready.

Went to get them and the room was covered in sudocream! Absolutely covered, walls and bed and their faces and bodies were just white!! And then I could hear their poor mum opening the door. The stress level…dear God! 😂

Ah a great Irish product

I need some now actually for my own skin .. must find it lurking at the back of a cupboard

Sadly it’s not Irish anymore. It’s now an Israeli product.

The pharmacist told me not to use it for eczema (although I think it does say on the pot that you can). She said the reason it's so effective for nappy rash is because it's drying - so the opposite of what you want with eczema. Also she said it contains lots of fragrances compared to most eczema ointments, as well as lanolin, and that eczema sufferers are more likely to be irritated by wool (and therefore by lanolin) than people without eczema.
As an aside, I have mild eczema, and find wool clothing brings me out in hives, but it took me aaages to figure out why lansinoh was making breastfeeding more painful instead of less when I first had DS 🙄 So, anecdotally, I can believe that lanolin-containing products might not be great for people with eczema.

I was just going to type, I must be the only person who hates it, but I see it's got lanolin in, and I'm allergic to lanolin so probably why it feels like it's burning me.

Invaluable product. We use larval debridement on one of our patient’s leg ulcer. Each delivery of the maggot therapy comes with a small container of Sudocrem. It protects the periwound margins from the enzymes produced by the larvae.

No, that's Germolene -cures everything! 😆

Savlon was called "magic cream" by the teachers at school when I was young. They'd pop some on everything, then a plaster initially (while deciding if stitches or plaster cast were more likely needed).

I've still got the tiny one from my Bounty pack. Dd is 20.

Me too.

Never used it!

Have a look at the ingredients. It is mostly Vaseline, not cheap, but supermarkets do their own 'white petroleum jelly' usually in the baby department.

That is as effective as Sudacrem. You pay for the advertising. It may not have the same 'feel' but that is because the Sudacrem is whisked up in the factory. Try it: what have you got to lose? If the white petroleum jelly is not to your taste and feel, there are others cheaper than Sudacrem.

Tesco do an amazing skin cream, which used to be £1 but went up to £1.65. It comes in aloe vera It is amazingly good, comes in the same shape and colour bottle as the vaseline aloe vera equivalent costing £6+. The chiropodist commented on my skin and I said I just get the cheapest

gladflyingducks · 21/10/2024 19:47

Sadly doesn’t work on psoriasis. But then again nothing does.

I don't like it either, and it certainly didn't suit my late husband. It is only expensive because they advertise it. Look at the list of ingredients and buy the main - first on the list ingredients.

Disturbia81 · 21/10/2024 19:51

I use it for everything!

Sennelier1 · 21/10/2024 19:52

AutumnCrow · 20/10/2024 18:02

The linked piece says its now produced by pharma giant Teva in Israel. I didn't know that.

I won't buy it then. Try to do my bit in boycotting the Israeli upper-class.

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 21/10/2024 19:53

This is nothing new. I never used it for nappy rash but have used it a lot for other things.

FutureMandosWife · 21/10/2024 19:55

Can't use it in my house I am allergic to it

I think you win the prize for the most niche use!!

Though right now I'm using it to ease gig arse (only fixed-seat rowers will understand and, I hope, sympathise)

BooBooDoodle · 21/10/2024 19:59

Influencers are pushing it for acne free skin treatment due to the zinc content. Sudocrem facials are currently ‘vibing’. This will be why the price has shot up because they will want to cash in.

Ladymeade · 21/10/2024 20:01

Riverd · 20/10/2024 19:53

Sudocrem gets used on everyone and for everything - including the horses

I'm going to try it on my cob's mallenders!

Blueblell · 21/10/2024 20:04

I used to use it on my horses

I used it on my daughter’s eczema and it was very effective. Also used it as sunblock on my horses muzzle.

TaylorSwish · 21/10/2024 20:11

What the crap is in it?
It’s a tiny pot of magic.
it care cure anything including death.
It never runs out
It seems to have the ability to moisten dry skin but also dry moist skin.

FlipFlopVibe · 21/10/2024 20:18

I have a tub someone got me for my first born and I swear it’s gone down by about half a millimetre, now on second born 5 years later and still not budged.
I got two sample pots in my Bounty packs that I take on holiday so basically I’ve got a lifetime supply already

Sometimesright · 21/10/2024 20:27

Addictedtococacola · 20/10/2024 19:01

I used to use it for everything.
But now it's banned from our house cause ds will eat it and if someone has used it he will lick them. Ds has pica so sudacrem is one of many banned thing in our house.

My granddaughter used to eat it too!

Sometimesright · 21/10/2024 20:38

Getonwitit · 20/10/2024 19:54

I haven't used it for eczema but Balmonds cream was fantastic for Grandson's eczema.

Always worth trying anything that keeps it moisturised.

MaggieFS · 21/10/2024 20:40

@Ethelswith Sliding seat rowers can empathise!

I have to agree with the Lanolin comments. Terrible for eczema. When I was a teen E45 was seen as a magic bullet and I struggled dreadfully until one kind GP explained the Lanolin thing.

louderthan · 21/10/2024 20:47

We use it on horse noses so they don't burn in the sun.
