Sudacrem price riseI went to buy Sudacrem cream recently and saw that the price for a 400g pot was x3 more expensive than my last purchase!

A quick Google reveals :

Excellent for everything.
Ive got horribly dry hands that split and get really sore - I coat them in sudocrem before it splits overnight and the next morning they are transformed! And really really soft.

I just cannot understand why they do not make a squeeze travel tube version!!! I’ve even considered writing to them to tell them to do it and that I could be a product designer for them. It used to aggravate me that I couldn’t fit the small tub in the fold up changing bag!!!! That’s how much sudocrem has been in my daily life until recently (ds is potty training!!)

The linked piece says its now produced by pharma giant Teva in Israel. I didn't know that.

Awful.
Should have kept factory going in Ireland.

TeeBee · 20/10/2024 22:06

My youngest started uni in September. When we went to do his big food shop, he had to head off to get a massive pot of sudocrem. Guess it's one of those things we can't be without Smile

We call it that too!

Us too!

it’s used for everything.

I remember when you could buy a big tub for 99p

I even took a tub backpacking around the world with me 😂

Foreignmumof2 · 20/10/2024 22:13

I tried it and it didn’t work for my DS.

After using so many different creams, someone recommended me a cream called Glysolid. It cleared all his eczema within a week, and kept it away. It’s not sold on the high street but it’s available on Amazon.

The pharmacist told me not to use it for eczema (although I think it does say on the pot that you can). She said the reason it's so effective for nappy rash is because it's drying - so the opposite of what you want with eczema. Also she said it contains lots of fragrances compared to most eczema ointments, as well as lanolin, and that eczema sufferers are more likely to be irritated by wool (and therefore by lanolin) than people without eczema.
As an aside, I have mild eczema, and find wool clothing brings me out in hives, but it took me aaages to figure out why lansinoh was making breastfeeding more painful instead of less when I first had DS 🙄 So, anecdotally, I can believe that lanolin-containing products might not be great for people with eczema.

Yes. When I started using it on my first born it ( the lanolin) triggered my excema and could have been a factor in his. We must be the exception but not bought any since

LouH5 · 20/10/2024 22:15

My boyfriend swears by it for his eczema and I use it on down below after I’ve shaved- it’s amazing for shaving rash/razor burn!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 20/10/2024 22:20

We used it on tick bites etc on my dog, worked really well

KatRee · 20/10/2024 19:02

Has anyone found it effective for eczema? DS has very persistent eczema and I have a big pot of this and never thought to try it for that

Yes! I'm using it for my own eczema right now. 3 days in and its 90% better.

ps: pot is at least 20 years old.

HiCandles · 20/10/2024 22:26

Unpopular view, I know, I actually can't stand Sudocrem. I think it was the blind insistence by both DM and MIL when my first was born that his bottom must at all times be coated in it regardless of nappy rash. My attempts to point out that I had read creams weren't usually necessary or recommended with cloth nappies fell on deaf ears and to this day nearly 2.5 years and another baby later if mum changes a nappy she'll ask for cream, despite the skin being absolutely pristine and not needing cream of any kind. Put me right off ever buying it myself!

DrSeuss · 20/10/2024 22:32

Home Bargains do a much cheaper copy.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 20/10/2024 16:52

Do people buy it? I thought it just appeared in your house.

And stays there years after its best by date. Its probably there the day the baby it appeared for gets married, has his/her baby. Its just stays there. Watching. Waiting.

Definitelyrandom · 20/10/2024 22:33

We used it on the children when they were small and now use it on the greyhound (as they are prone to cut themselves easily).

We put it on everything: insect bite, nappy rash, other rash, scrape - you name it. Will have to go easy at current prices, though it’s totally worth whatever they charge.

Franjipanl8r · 20/10/2024 22:36

Addictedtococacola · 20/10/2024 19:01

I used to use it for everything.
But now it's banned from our house cause ds will eat it and if someone has used it he will lick them. Ds has pica so sudacrem is one of many banned thing in our house.

Gosh that sounds really difficult and challenging!

I remember feeling really strange when I saw my parents had replaced their 15 year old tub of sudocrem with a brand new tub. What had changed to make them suddenly take the leap?! It was a very destabilising moment.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/10/2024 22:44

I thought its magical property was that it never runs out.
We've been using the same run of Sudocrem for years. It's been half full for as long as I can remember. I don't remember buying it either. It's just there - on the bathroom windowsill. Always has been, and probably always will be.

I wonder if it actually does anything, or if it's just a big pot of cold cream and placebo?

Our dog was hospitalised with severe gastroenteritis and when he was discharged his poor bottom was raw red. The vet suggested sudocrem and it was like a miracle cream. I don't think the dog understands placebo effects so it must have worked. (The true proof of dog love is slathering cream on his bottom twice a day 🤢. I did use disposable gloves).

I can't use lanolin either. And e45 cream has it in it. So I have to use aqueous cream.

Intrigued about it as I have tried numerous creams with little success on my hand ezcema

krustykittens · 20/10/2024 23:09

We do too! I put a fly rug on our elderly Cushings mare last summer but they got u see it and she rubbed herself sore in an afternoon. We slathered her in sudocrem every day and she healed beautifully.

Normallynumb · 20/10/2024 23:20

I still use it now, and my eldest is 30!
I get patches of eczema and it works for me using a tiny smear then moisturiser over the top
I also use it on my dog as he has sensitive skin too( Westie)
For info tiny tubs of 20g in a container similar to Vaseline lip therapy are sold now
