I see women in leggings or jersey trousers with short tops and they don't have a VPL. how?!?! Please tell me I don't have to resort to thongs

I always size up too, not for normal knickers but I read somewhere to size up for thongs and they're much more comfy
I'm a 16 in jeans/bikini/knickers but buy a 18/20 for a thong and it sits so much better

LostOnTheWayToManderley · 03/10/2024 04:03

Whilst we are on the subject - PSA to check the colour of your knickers! Yesterday I clearly saw a black thong under pale leggings because this thread made me look. VPL would have been the least of my worries in that scenario.

That is not a faux pas, that is a fashion statement by the wearer. Like many fashion statements it may neither represent style nor beauty, but don’t for one minute think it an accident.

LostOnTheWayToManderley · 03/10/2024 07:51

@StarlightLady really?!! Oof. I’ll let that trend pass me by and continue to check my rear view for cat hair before I leave the house 😆

Thongs. I only wear them and have since my teens. I find them far more comfortable than proper knickers, though I know I'm in the minority. Probably just used to them as I can't even feel them.

Me too, I've tried lots of different big knickers and they just go up my bum. I'd rather have a tiny bit of fabric designed to sit there than a load of material bunched up.

WhataPithy · 03/10/2024 08:28

I find the microfibre thongs from M&S very comfortable too. And I always buy them two sizes bigger as well. I wear them under leggings (only wear leggings when at the gym). I could never go commando!! With skirts & dresses I wear M&S’s seamless cycling short pants.

I don’t know what it is but with some trousers and jeans, the cut is such that if you wear normal knickers with them, it makes your bum look like you’re wearing a nappy. Usually looks fine in the morning but as the day goes by, the fabric starts to sag and kind of clings on to the knicker fabric. I wear thongs with these instead, much better silhouette.

Completelyjo · 03/10/2024 08:46

@Gwenhwyfar Don't wear such thin leggings that your knickers show.

It’s nothing to do with cheap leggings, even tailored trousers, suits or skirts will show through. It’s anything that is more fitted on the bum.

You sound weirdly defensive. It’s fine if you are a 12, it’s fine if you are not. I explained up thread that this was very different than my experience. Most people don’t really care what number is on their pants. I can’t imagine choosing to wear pants so large they need to be held up by my trousers as you describe or wearing pants so tight they dig into my flesh. I don’t really care if those are your preferred sizes. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just own it though.

Own what exactly? And it was me who said I'm a 6 in clothes generally but prefer a 10 in knickers. Six 6 knickers don't dig in, size 10 don't fall down if left to their own devices. It's just that a larger size gives a smoother line under clothes. If it makes you happier I'll "own" size 10 and "identify" as that from now on. (But that won't stop me ordering six 6 or XS when I buy clothes online, as that is what is likely to fit me).

Ohthatsabitshit · 03/10/2024 14:42

Honestly just call yourself whatever you like @thecatneuterer nobody cares what size your pants are.

Hilarious 😂. But please will you answer my question? Just own what exactly?

StolenChanel · 03/10/2024 14:53

Seamless thongs. Feels like I’m commando.

Sodthebloodymealplan · 03/10/2024 14:58

It's ok @thecatneuterer . I am owning size 10 knickers and size 6 trousers as well, although I do also have size 12 knickers and size 8 trousers. I am owning all the sizes. I have put zero effort into persuading myself of any of it though, despite @Ohthatsabitshit thinking I must have had to convince myself I am a size I am not. I have just bought what sizes work for me and my arse! And I am the size I am, whatever the label in my knickers (or trousers!) say.

oh God I honestly can’t be arsed(!) with discussing your pant size any more. Your size ten knickers are a mirage and you are obviously a 6. Size 6 knickers are too tight because your butt needs 10 but isn’t a 10. HTH

Just own what?
I'm really not sure what owning it looks like to you.

So you tell me what you want me to say.
My fitted clothes are an 8 and XS/S
In hoodies I have between an 8/XS and a 12/L depending on whether I want it fitting as shown by the model or oversized
My knickers are usually a 10 which is usually a S

What am I supposed to own?

This next bit of information may blow your mind. My shoe size is 36.5 but in boots I generally wear a 37 👹

outforawalkbiatch · 03/10/2024 15:44

I have clothes from a 14 to a 22!
I'm usually a 16 but yes I size up in knickers, thongs and pjs because I prefer them looser
Even my feet vary from a 6.5-8

Gwenhwyfar · 05/10/2024 09:36

Cobblersorchard · 02/10/2024 20:22

@Gwenhwyfar sorry I don’t know why I quoted you, was an error!

But even my very thick yoga pants have VPL in the wrong knickers, as do my tailored work trousers. It’s nothing specific to leggings being thin.

I don't get this. Most of my clothes don't show a VPL. It would have to be thin material.

It’s different when you are standing still looking in a mirror to when you are walking and moving about.

I still don’t see it such a big deal if the person behind you thinks you have knickers on!

Not if your clothing is tight and your knickers are distorting your bum shape when you walk or exercise.

It has been explained multiple times… it’s not about people knowing you are wearing knickers. It’s about the knickers digging in across your bum cheeks creating lumps and bumps where many of us would prefer a smooth silhouette.

Wear clothing of the right size then.

It is the right size. It may have passed you by but some clothes are meant to be close fitting. Leggings for example. Do you wear baggy leggings?
