How do people not have a knicker line?

I see women in leggings or jersey trousers with short tops and they don't have a VPL. how?!?! Please tell me I don't have to resort to thongs

Thongs are vulgar.

No underwear is really unhygienic both for the individual and anyone else who has to use the same seating given all women have discharge and whatever.

Just wear normal underwear. I've never understood the notion that one is supposed to be ashamed to be known to be wearing knickers.

Thongs. I only wear them and have since my teens. I find them far more comfortable than proper knickers, though I know I'm in the minority. Probably just used to them as I can't even feel them.

I’m the same and cannot understand the hate for them! 🤣

Thongs are not vulgar and are "normal underwear."

emmetgirl · 01/10/2024 14:41

I don't wear them so no knicker line.

OldVillageShop · 01/10/2024 14:42

This reminds me of my Mum's oft-quoted saying while patting my bum as a child:

'Must be jelly cos jam don't shake like that'.

I think VPL depends on whether your bum is more like a peach, a jelly, or squishy like jam.

Peachy = no VPL ever.
Jelly = prone to VPL but seamless can work.
Jam = squidgy bulges, VPL guaranteed.

Nowadays mine is jam, regardless of my knicker choice.

MadKittenWoman · 01/10/2024 15:00

Big pants that sit on the waist and stop beneath the bum. Sorted. Also, good quality leggings shouldn't show your knickers.

FlyHalf · 01/10/2024 15:05

I've been here for too long because I clicked on this thinking it was a whole new chapter in MN laundry-line etiquette.

i was going to say, I just peg my knickers at the end of the line furthest from sight

MarkWithaC · 01/10/2024 15:09

Thongs are bad for hygiene, aren't they?
I just have a VPL and people can deal with it.
But you could try those knickers that come right down your leg. I'm sure M&S do some, and probably Primark and John Lewis among others too.

Bad in what way?

MarkWithaC · 01/10/2024 15:58

I think they act like a 'wick' and draw bacteria that are supposed to live in the anus forward towards the vagina, and maybe vice versa as well.

Branleuse · 01/10/2024 16:00

Knicker lines are fine these days. We are allowed to wear knickers again.

I agree that it is all about bigger pants. Bought two sizes too big by mistake once and it was a revelation.

If l wore 2 sizes too big they’d come up to my tits!

Cobblersorchard · 01/10/2024 13:52

No they really don’t- big knickers are the biggest seller but it varies by age.

I don’t have completely current data but a family member is in buying for a big retailer and they look after pants predominantly. It’s been many a topic of conversation over the years!

I'd definitely be probing for data on buying habits too if I knew someone in that line of work.

Interesting though. And @rumblegrumble I'm with you. Way more comfy. I assumed most (under 50s at least) would be the same.

These big cotton ones from Matalan in a size 18, I'm a 14. I just keep buying them, the thing in the same style is also very comfortable, but two sizes up again.

£7.50 for a 4 pack.

I just have a knicker line.

Nobody's perfect! I've never had any comments about it.

I once had someone comment on mine. They asked if I had rope edging on my pants.

Maybe we should start a thong appreciation thread 😂

I would like to assure those who are concerned about hygiene that I do tend to wear something overtop if I'm sitting in public places. Obviously. (And in any case, I don't emit so much discharge that it drips through my underwear onto furniture. I didn't know that was a thing 😕)

H34th · 01/10/2024 13:42

We could normalise knicker lines...
I don't look or care. Wear whatever is comfortable.
Most people assume you wear something under the trousers - why so desperate to give the impression you don't.

I don't think the problem is seeing knicker lines per se. It's more than the lines create lumpy bumps, with the flesh under the knickers being a slightly lower level to the flesh outside the knickers. So you get lumpy bum cheeks. It's not the seams as such that are the problem.

I was once told that wearing a summer dress without knickers was a risk to others, because there was only one layer of fabric between me and the outside world. 🙃

I don't see why. I buy the shorts style which sit well below the navel, even two sizes up.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/10/2024 17:59

I can't imagine caring about a knicker line tbh. And I think thongs are the work of the devil.

PollyOrange · 01/10/2024 22:10

Never yet worn a thong that was comfy. They ride up and just feel unhygienic

I wear these knickers pretty much all the time. No VPL. I have about ten black pairs and a few printed ones (leopard, zebra) and wear them with black bralette/crop top things from Thought.

In the summer I wore quite a few pairs of pyjama style trousers (stripy or gingham wide-leg) and bought nude thongs and matching bralettes from Primark for with those. I’m a 10/12 and sized right up to large in them, so they were really comfy!

Per pp I don’t actually care if people know I wear pants, really.

CHANTELLE 2 Pack Soft Stretch No VPL Full Brief - Black

An amazing second skin feel, incredibly stretchy and light for a totally invisible look under clothes. No VPL means ‘no visible panty line’ so these briefs do not have elastic around the legs so your underwear line will not show underneath your clothes...
