We still have 2 months to go so there's still time for dilemmas, decisions and discounts.

We have a few coming out this week including John Lewis, OK and No7. I'm still WAC (without advent calendar) but that may soon change!

I didn’t realise it was that popular. It must’ve been like the Harrods fragrance calendar!

I remember in 2022 there being quite a few calendars reduced around November time so last year my friend decided she would wait for a bargain. By Black Friday she was left with very few options as lots suddenly sold out. This year they seem to be selling out even earlier so I doubt there will be many reductions.

Couperi · 02/10/2024 20:32

Space NK fragrance one is a miss for me, quite a disappointing selection. Hoping to get the HN fragrance one though.

I ended up with a ridiculous number of calendars in 2022, thanks to all the bargains! That year was very unusual though, it's not the norm. Not sure what happened. Maybe it was peak cost of living crisis.

I'm looking at the CB Scent with Love Advent for my niece. Has anyone managed to get this recently or has it been out of stock for a while? I'm wondering if they're going to re stock or they're all gone...

Sadly, it’s been OOS for weeks. I keep looking but no change.

Jeremono · 02/10/2024 20:55

It all feels too early. The waitlists came out in the summer and then contents were released months later. It’s still only October but they’re sold out already.

I don’t usually start to think about Christmas until November.

MidnightMeltdown · 02/10/2024 21:06

F&M is still available. I think that used to sell out more quickly in the past. I guess that people are finding it too samey. Once you've tried the brands, the shine wears off a bit.

I suppose that it also has a different target market compared to CB, Space NK, Sephora and LF. The department store calendars in general seem to be aimed at the 30+ range, whereas the beauty brands seem more targeted at people in their 20s (not that it stops me buying them! 😂)

Still debating if I should get a calendar - probably LF - or just buy some discovery type kits from brands I'd like to try and make my own using an old box. I was given a French beauty box type gift at the weekend which could be the starting point for making my own. Plus i will be away for the last week if the calendar so only actually need 18 days.

I have found some Eve Lom, Byoma, Sunday Riley and Dermologica sets plus some Ren favourites I could get.

What are the skincare brands that really appeal to you in the calendars you are buying? You might give me more choice of sets to make my own calendar.

If I was forced (it would have to be at gunpoint!) to pick only 3 brands based on effectiveness and enjoyment of use...

  1. Elemis
  2. Sunday Riley
  3. Medik8

I recommend checking thr QVC website if you're interested in Elemis or Sunday Riley :)

IDontHateRainbows · 02/10/2024 22:36

Skincare brands I rate are medik8 Sunday riley and drunk elephant. Never really 'got' elemis although it does seem popular. Clinique, clarins etc I just see as money for old rope

I’ve still got piles of stuff from them I haven’t used yet. I really don’t need anymore.

The worst moisturisers I've ever used have been Clinique. I got a set a couple of Christmas's ago which had a pink gel 'moisturiser' which I swear did the opposite. Then I also once bought a yellow travel sized tube to take on holiday which was equally ineffective and awful.

Stupidly I bought the travel size after knowing the pink one was awful. I think there are certain brands my brain must equate with good just because they've been around for decades and was the stuff I couldn't afford as a teenager.

JudgeBurrito · 03/10/2024 00:05

I really like the Clinique Moisture Surge (is pink), and the only cleansing balm I use is the Clinique! We're all different.

MiaN · 03/10/2024 04:25

I read that Net a Porter are getting rid of their beauty division, which may explain why they don't have advent.

MiaN · 03/10/2024 04:30

Caramelandsalt · 02/10/2024 17:47

Can anyone advise which fragrance calendar will be the best value, HN or Snk .

To me they are both good. SpaceNK have limited selection compared to Harvey Nics and are more targeted to clean aesthetic vs HN is more targeted to someone who is up for something stronger.

Same! Clinique stuff does nothing for me, feels like plastic on my skin. Thought it was just me.

That's true. Products do work differently on people. I'm glad the Moisture Surge works for someone!

chloechloe · 03/10/2024 07:11

My SNK arrived yesterday, ordered on the first day of the open sale. I hope everybody has theirs now? I’ve given each box a little shake and it seems everything is filled.

I should stop reading this thread as it’s tempting me to get another despite having LF too on pre-order!

Lots of good boxes coming out at the monent too, though especially on CB.

virgocatlover · 03/10/2024 07:13

John Lewis now available to order

I'm no longer without advent calendar. I've ordered JL. I may only have one this year (usually 3!) unless some good discounts tempt me...

OP posts:
AskingQuestions45 · 03/10/2024 07:34

The John Lewis is the one I like most but still too many things I wouldn’t use . If it was discounted,
maybe!

pinkchampagne1 · 03/10/2024 07:41

I really like the look of JL this year. Resisting the urge to order though as I don’t need another calendar. However I could be tempted if it gets reduced.

it’s my birthday today and I have my Harrods calendar all wrapped up in front of me. DH is asleep after his night shift so I can’t open it until later. Think he will have to hide it from me again to stop me looking in all the boxes!

virgocatlover · 03/10/2024 07:43

Happy birthday @pinkchampagne1 , yes I would need it hidden away until 30 November

Monpetitchoumonpetitepois · 03/10/2024 07:44

My jl rewards gives me £10 off the calendar, I've got it in my basket with card details entered, I just can't press buy! I still think it's over priced. It is the only one that appealed to me though. I'd be annoyed if it gets discounted and equally annoyed if it sells out.

Caramelandsalt · 03/10/2024 07:49

MiaN
Thankyou. I think I'll get the HN one . 🤔

Caramelandsalt · 03/10/2024 07:53

I've also just ordered the JL calendar. This thread is soooo enabling, it should come with a warning title.

IDontHateRainbows · 03/10/2024 07:56

Just bought mine, there is a store near me so I went for next day click and collect will be in my hands tomorrow!
