Does the holy grail of a trouser you can wear jumpers/tops with so that your vpl isn't visible but there's no tightness on the tummy exist?

You want

Beyond Nine

trousers.

Does she?

Really?

🤣🤣🤣

Should have said, they’re from The White Company

I have just ordered on your rec, @EnjoyingTheSilence

BetsyRegards · 28/09/2024 15:24

None of those mean that you can't wear flattering clothes

They are rather flattering actually. And very good quality. I doubt many people bothered to actually browse the website before commenting! Some people like and buy the stripes, others prefer the plain fabrics - linen, cotton, jersey, cord, etc. Or the dresses. Or the jumpsuits. Definitely a few items there suitable for most workplaces.

Anyway - I too have no axe to grind, just recommending a brand I know to do a particular thing really well.

yoshiblue · 28/09/2024 15:29

If you are short look at Uniqlo. I have a range of elasticated/drawstring trousers from there. Their standard length is perfect on 5' 4" me.

RampantIvy · 28/09/2024 08:25

Those M and S trousers shrink in the wash. I am 5'7 and the legs shrank so much they looked ridiculous.

If you buy them get a length that is too long to allow for shrinkage.

I decided to splash the cash and buy these https://www.ninepine.uk/products/asana-relaxed-straight-pant-navy?variant=47251527860572&shpxid=aa600fae-235e-4523-b947-97effd0ca788 and they are really worth the money.

Second these! I looked all through lockdown for exactly the sort of trousers OP wants - and these are absolutely brilliant. In fact I wear them almost every day now. Yes I look the same pretty much every day! They have spanned me putting on a stone - they fitted well all through that.

I am a 14 and bought the 12 - 14 size and they fit perfectly.

@BetsyRegards I have suffered from some of those things but I still wouldn't wear clown trousers. I mean it's bad enough to be suffering without adding clown trousers to the mix.

I’ve never even heard of this brand but, though I think they’re badly styled on the website, lots of brands are styling similar shapes (barrel-legged, 7/8th lengths) in much cooler ways. Cos has lots of similar styles, and I have often lived in their wide-legged culottes. I wear them with thick-soled boots with a narrow ankle, and the hem comes to mid-calf, so there’s a sharp contrast between the wide hem of the trousers and the narrow ankle of the boots.

minipie · 28/09/2024 15:53

If you want a smarter look than jersey/elasticated, then look at vintage style trousers with a wide waistband and pleats.

this sort of thing

These are fitted round the waist but without the discomfort the narrow stiff waistband of jeans can cause. I believe it’s called a Basque waist.

Also look for sailor style trousers - again, fitted but no waistband to cut in.

Skinny cargo pants (or loose ones if you prefer) with an elasticated waist - I wear these most days especially if feeling bloated. Since I discovered these I find jeans really uncomfortable now!

YearsofYears · 28/09/2024 18:05

I like the m&s trousers too. Recently bought in petite which is a good fit on me. Have the regular ones about two years.
I like the Beyond Nine look. Probably wouldn't wear myself as I'm small and apple shapedand preferred a sharper look but looks fab on others, quite an arty look I think.

YearsofYears · 28/09/2024 18:07

Any recommended brands for your cargos? It's a look I always like on others but am never sure about for me.

Ophy83 · 28/09/2024 20:24

I have various tummy issues and agree with the Beyond Nine recommendation, I've got some and they're lovely. Other brands where I've found very comfy trousers are Toast, Hush and Oliver Bonas. Or Me and Em jersey trousers look tailored but feel like joggers. Alternatively if you want to wear jeans, then buy a size too large and wear with a belt.

I really like these jersey jeggings from next.

I had the fleece lined ones last winter and they were so comfy but I've tried some of the others and the waistband seems tighter . Really hoping they do the fleece ones again this winter .

I bought Halara via ticktock shop recently. They look exactly like jeans but are soft and stretchy in every direction with elastic waist. No digging into my flabby tum! Honestly the most comfortable trousers I've had for ages

Can I ask what the fabric is like? I've looked at those but they look as if they are very thin fabric and slightly see through .

Iamthemoom · 28/09/2024 20:30

Have you tried Halara magic jeans? Very soft and stretch and don't feel like jeans at all. I've got straight, wide leg and skinny and all feel like I'm wearing the softest leggings. Also very flattering.

MrsForgetalot · 28/09/2024 20:42

I love my salsa secret push in jeans - they’re high waisted and yummy flattening but they are the only high waisted jeans that don’t give me indigestion I can’t wear tights or leggings or anything that puts pressure on my middle.

when I discovered maternity jeans I swore I’d never go back to regular jeans again but these changed my mind.

3doughnutproblem · 28/09/2024 20:47

These are comfortable, I'd say they are more casual than smart, the photo is misleading

My m and s ones shrunk too. Both pairs worn once!

melissasummerfield · 28/09/2024 21:46

I wear lucy and yak Alexa trousers , very comfy around the middle, come in a variety of leg lengths and are 100% cotton.

trousers.

Trust me - you really don’t!!

Nopenope99nope · 28/09/2024 22:04

I wasted my cash on those Lucy and Yak Alexa’s. Absolutely awful trousers for a 5ft 4 person (I’m size 10)..I have black ones and they look like the bottom half of a Santa costume.

They also wash terribly and bobble quickly.

I wouldn’t wear them in public but they will do for WFH! They literally go up to my boobs 😂

following the thread as need comfy trousers for Endometriosis and struggling to find some

My thoughts exactly! They are revolting and not flattering in the slightest!

ElleWoods15 · 28/09/2024 22:37

If you need an alternative for going out, I’d suggest Boden ponte trousers. The Highgate ones are nice - like office suitable leggings.

Hush did some really lovely thick ponte leggings last year with a size zip at the bottom which made them feel a bit fancy. Nothing as yet this year but I’m holding out hope they will return.
