With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

It does sound interesting @Doubleraspberry - but it’s tiny - I’d have liked a bigger perfume paid with it, so I could try them together!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 08/09/2024 14:50

@IlovePond I ruled out SpaceNK as the items I'm interested in are mainly smaller sizes so it just isn't worth it to me. CB is similar. I was planning on getting Liberty as it is mainly things I like or would like to try. But €360 is just way too much of an add-on to the UK price. Paying that much extra would take the shine off it for me.

I have H&B and am hoping Boots Premium is on a par but completely different to last year. I got it last year and loved it but obviously want something different.

For anyone not feeling it, I would recommend making one up yourself. The year LF messed up my order I got an edit from Red and a couple of GWPs and got dd to fill up an old calendar for me. I ended up with a great calendar and joined the Waifs and Strays opening thread. That is always the best thread as there is such variety and it's great seeing what everyone got.

I have a feeling Space NK will email those of us who signed up for the calendar, a few days before Thursday, possibly Monday or Tuesday.
I didn’t buy it last year, but I don’t remember them doing any sort of discount on it.

@virgocatlover Has Boots actually announced the contents of their premium calendar?

Edited

Space NK didn't do a general discount on the calendar last year, but they did send a discount code to specific customers (I think it was 20% off). I got the offer code after I'd already ordered the calendar, but I phoned Space NK and they still honoured the discount and gave me a partial refund which was good.

I think that they sent this offer only to customers who had purchased their calendar the previous year. Not sure whether they will do the same this year.

SoloCat · 08/09/2024 15:00

I’m looking at Space NK for;
AB serum..to go with all of my AB creams, need to use them up.
Drunk Elephant Lala whipped cream.
Tatcha serum stick
Colour wow.
I also use the UV Queen SPF and am halfway through a bottle.
I’d also like to try the sleeping mask by Laneige and the Sisley velvet mask.
It’s not really exciting though and I really like the look of Jo Malone.

Doubleraspberry · 08/09/2024 15:09

If Boots isn’t up to it, I’m going to get this. And a chocolate calendar!

Although I might have a look to see whether there’s any sort of French pharmacy calendar around for international shipping. I’m sure there was at least one last year.

Re: SpaceNK

I like the look of the Tatcha stick, the AB serum, the Laneige mask, the DE moisturiser, Lisa Eldridge lipstick and Hourglass blush in particular. I wouldn’t buy any of them individually, so would like to try them.

It’s just a lot for me to spend - especially considering I have no use for several items.

I am trying not to spend any more money on ‘stuff’ the next couple of months, and if I succeed, I may celebrate by purchasing it, (if not sold out by then.)

Having said that, I had to spend a small fortune on moth stuff this morning as found one in my clothes🙀

Doubleraspberry · 08/09/2024 15:13

Just looking, the French Pharmacy one was released at the end of September last year. I will keep an eye out.

IlovePond · 08/09/2024 15:14

That does look beautiful @Doubleraspberry

Giftwithpurchase · 08/09/2024 15:20

@BakeOffRewatch great idea to revive the other thread in the run up to Christmas. I'll try to contribute but won't be the best cos i deleted all the marketing emails I used to get to try and cut down my stash 😂

I'm just loving hourglass atm - wish they'd do a calendar!

QuizzlyBears · 08/09/2024 15:22

I’ve pre ordered Sephora, for the third year running. I’ve always loved it and I’m excited for the contents again this year!

MidnightMeltdown · 08/09/2024 15:31

IlovePond · 08/09/2024 14:19

I’ve just rewatched the unboxing video of SpaceNK and am really on the fence. There are lots of products I would want to try, but some DoD and Day 25 is such a letdown.

My DoD are:

Colour Wow
Brow gel
Milk primer
Not keen on the sunscreen
The tiny perfume that isn’t a perfume-just why?

I am interested in the rest of it, plus there isn’t any retinol and no face powder - always a plus for me.

I know other people on here are leaning towards SpaceNK. What are your thoughts?

If I go for it, it will be the most - by far - that I have ever spent on just one a/c.

I shouldn’t really…🙀

I'm definitely getting Space NK, but I buy it almost every year. If there any bits that I don't want I just eBay them and get a bit of money back. I don't see that as a barrier to buying a calendar (unless it's unsellable junk like jade rollers, pulse point oils and minis).

I think that Space NK will definitely sell out this year as it's one of the best. They have a lot of stock though, and usually do few drops, so it should take a while to completely sell out.

Oh no. That’s dangerous. That looks lush!

MidnightMeltdown · 08/09/2024 15:34

On a positive note, there hasn't been a jade roller or a gua sha stone in sight this year! 😂

Exactly what I've been thinking 🤣

Doubleraspberry · 08/09/2024 15:40

Sad to say I spied at least one gua sha in a contents list. No rollers though!

JudgeBurrito · 08/09/2024 15:52

@IlovePond I watched an unboxing of Space NK this morning (Em Sheldon, I found her particularly annoying!) and I'm definitely getting it. I think I might buy it on release day as I suspect it will sell out, I think it's very good this year. The only DoD for me are Supergoop (only SPF 30), the Paula's Choice (I find AHA more effective), the Eve Lom (prefer Clinique), the Sisley products (expensive but tiny), and the AB serum (but at least it's not the cream). Even then, I'll use them all. It's probably not the most 'fun' or exciting calendar but it's super practical. I agree day 25 is boring, I want a candle or a perfume or something for Christmas Day.

If you're going to spend X amount, IMO it's better to spend on one decent calendar than on multiple that seems like 'bargains'. I've made that mistake in the past and ended up with loads of samples, or products I didn't really like.

CalicoPusscat · 08/09/2024 16:54

@MidnightMeltdown I've never tried those gua sha things, they look scary to me! 🙊

Doubleraspberry · 08/09/2024 16:56

Work up to it gradually, @CalicoPusscat. Find a largish pebble in your garden, wash it, and then rub it over your face. Once you’ve done that a few times, you’ll be ready for a gua sha. 😂

CalicoPusscat · 08/09/2024 16:56

😵

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/09/2024 17:11

They may have jumped the gun a bit, but I saw this review of the M&S calendar with the contents - no one else has published it as far as I can see!

I'm really undecided. I had a beauty calendar for the first time last year, the M&S one, and it's the price point I can afford really. But I'm not feeling that excited by the list.

I'm so disappointed by m+s! I was banking on it this year to put in my last year's vogue box and I think it's completely boring, repetitive and uninspiring 😂

Witchinawell · 08/09/2024 17:17

fadedrose · 08/09/2024 11:32

Does H&B come in an obvious H&B box?

My DM has said she’d like an advent calendar for her birthday, as she enjoyed the Lumene one I got her a few years back, and H&B looks the best for the budget (we don’t spend much on gifts for each other - the Lumene was got at a reduction!). But I will have to get it sent to her as I’m not likely to see her before then, and if it comes in a branded H&B box it will be a bit of a giveaway!

I purchased two of the advent calendars from H&B, yes the actual calendars are branded, but not the box they come in (inside the delivery box). Also, when they first arrived I couldn't lift the box they came in, they are so heavy, must be full of full size products. Quite looking forward to it.

I was lucky enough to receive one 3 years in a row from Net-A-Porter! I also got one from H&B one year. I've kept one, but have never used it. Who has the time for this sort of thing?!

IlovePond · 08/09/2024 17:50

That’s the one I watched @JudgeBurrito - it was good to see all the products, but the presenter didn’t seem to really know much about them. I agree it’s better to buy one rather than several ‘cheaper’ ones if the pricier one has stuff you want/use. I wish the Hourglass item was an eyeshadow, (the postings on here have got me lusting after one of their palettes!)

I do try to sell stuff on @MidnightMeltdown but I am not usually very successful- I certainly would try, though.

If I buy one this year, I think it will be SpaceNK.
