With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

I have - sort of - unfairly- maligned the EL blockbuster set by saying there wasn’t a mini moisturiser - there is a 15ml one. Still disappointed with it, though.

I think it was two years ago, (and it was a better offering than this), that EL dispensed with the minimum spend requirement as the BB sets weren’t selling. IF that happens again this year, then I might consider it, otherwise, no.

Re: ASOS a/c

If anyone on here buys one, please can you report back on the condition. It is the one I like best atm, out of the <£100 offerings, but I am reluctant to buy given that I have now heard of two via YouTube that are faulty and it’s only just started to be delivered!

Thanks

A week or two ago someone posted about an M &S beauty bag edit that was coming out. Did anyone see anything else about it? I had this crappy 5 days of beauty thing on my sparks app and was expecting the beauty bag to be part of that but it wasn’t.

IlovePond · 07/09/2024 17:48

@Addictedtobeauty

It’s still available: £30

IlovePond · 07/09/2024 17:48

Tried and failed to add a pic earlier!

I didn’t get the M&S box as I could set up my own hand cream shop, so don’t need anymore. I also don’t use retinol, so the Murad item left me cold. I thought it looked ok, though, if they were products you’d use.

parkrun500club · 07/09/2024 18:28

I looked at the LIB/Stylist one but not very impressed.

So I went and ordered the H&B one. For £45 you really can't go wrong and I'll just regift or donate the stuff I don't want.

Quite tempted by L'Occitane but as I only really want their haircare I'll look for a gift set instead.

Therightcoffee · 07/09/2024 18:40

I know @IlovePond I've been slapping hand cream on three times a day as got so much of it....it's the one product from last year's AC that I've not used.

Addictedtobeauty · 07/09/2024 19:56

Thank you @IlovePond i completely missed its release- not like me at all. Must have been the Harrods debacle! Having said that, I’m giving it a miss. If it had had the Living Proof dry shampoo, I’d have caved!

Diplidocus4 · 07/09/2024 20:38

Just ordered the H&B as usually like everything and regift bits I'm not so sure about.
Will probably get M&S too as usually need underwear.....

Debtfreeme · 07/09/2024 21:20

I’ve gone for Liberty and LF. So excited love these threads

CalicoPusscat · 07/09/2024 21:44

The M&S beauty bag edit looks good. I think I'm a bit done with beauty treats for the time being however.

Peachy2005 · 07/09/2024 21:51

Hi, new to this thread and looking for some suggestions. We usually get the H&B advent calendar every year for my mum (age 78) and she loves it…however she gives a lot of bits to my sister (who really enjoyed the M&S Advent last year) so sister and I agreed we wouldn’t get the H&B for DM again this year. DM also doesn’t really do makeup but she likes either expensive or organic skincare/haircare. Now that the H&B is out, we’re torn, so I was wondering if there’s any advent calendar specifically aimed at more mature skin. Thanks for any ideas !!

I just went to Liberty today and looked at the calendar and I'm not 💯 now. A couple of things are definitely going to be wasted on me if I get it. I'm a bit undecided. Dh offered to buy one but obv didn't want to lug it round London 😂 so any others people recommend with a similar vibe?

JudgeBurrito · 07/09/2024 23:38

@Peachy2005 at a similar price point there's M&S and No 7. If you have a larger budget look at Harrods and Fortnums. There's also Naturismo, but they haven't announced a 2024 calendar yet.

CalicoPusscat · 08/09/2024 08:46

I was going to say Naturismo but have never seen it in advent format. Have you got a previous advent box to put things into @Peachy2005?

BloodyWolves · 08/09/2024 10:26

I’ve now looked properly through the Liberty contents and I’m starting to sway slightly! Liberty is not a brand I would have considered before… I’m not posh enough! But it has what Space NK lacks for me, some nice bath/self care/candle-y bits.

But then Space NK has more of the kind of make up I’d wear and plenty of sunscreen which I go through like crazy but it is a very functional advent. Plenty of products I would use which makes it great value for the money but nothing hugely exciting.

I never thought I’d get this worked up over choosing an advent calendar!

BIossomtoes · 08/09/2024 10:32

Although I’m not having it this year, I do recommend the Liberty calendar @BloodyWolves. I’ve had it for two years and really enjoyed it - and I’m not remotely posh!

fadedrose · 08/09/2024 11:32

Does H&B come in an obvious H&B box?

My DM has said she’d like an advent calendar for her birthday, as she enjoyed the Lumene one I got her a few years back, and H&B looks the best for the budget (we don’t spend much on gifts for each other - the Lumene was got at a reduction!). But I will have to get it sent to her as I’m not likely to see her before then, and if it comes in a branded H&B box it will be a bit of a giveaway!

CalicoPusscat · 08/09/2024 12:46

Yes the outside box would be H&B

I'm annoyed as I signed up for the waitlist for Anthropologie only to find out it's on sale now. For £88. It's not bad but everything is so small and nothing that really appeals now. Pretty box though.

Still waiting for Boots: apparently out Sept 12th.

Anthropologie drive me mad. I love them, but they are ridiculously expensive for some things. Their calendar is basically samples (it's listed as '24 premium samples' in their own words) Cheeky beggars!

IlovePond · 08/09/2024 14:19

I’ve just rewatched the unboxing video of SpaceNK and am really on the fence. There are lots of products I would want to try, but some DoD and Day 25 is such a letdown.

My DoD are:

Colour Wow
Brow gel
Milk primer
Not keen on the sunscreen
The tiny perfume that isn’t a perfume-just why?

I am interested in the rest of it, plus there isn’t any retinol and no face powder - always a plus for me.

I know other people on here are leaning towards SpaceNK. What are your thoughts?

If I go for it, it will be the most - by far - that I have ever spent on just one a/c.

I shouldn’t really…🙀

MyStylish40s · 08/09/2024 14:22

@IlovePond I agree with you, and I’d add the highlighter to your list. I really can’t make my mind up on it.

I wish Boots would hurry up and reveal their full contents.

Doubleraspberry · 08/09/2024 14:29

I actually quite like the idea of the perfume that isn’t a perfume and will happily take it off the hands of anyone who does get Space NK and doesn’t want it!
