With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

I've just ordered the H&B one. I first bought one years back, when you could just pick them up in store lol and it was great. I'm a big fan.

This years one is really good. I was chuffed to see the Gallinee Face Vinegar which I tried last month and got on well with. I think the only thing I wont use is the Shampoo and Conditioner as my hair is very fussy. I dont really need anything else, but may keep an eye on Vinted for bits that folk dont want :)

MiaN · 06/09/2024 12:48

if you are not going to use product, finding another home either selling or gifting is the more environmental aware way.

MidnightMeltdown · 06/09/2024 12:56

My Harrods fragrance is now saying 'Preparing for Shipping'

Hope that it gets dispatched today!

I keep rebuying the Charlotte Mensah pomade on Vinted. Love it.

Me too! It’s my greatest beauty drop discovery!!

Therightcoffee · 06/09/2024 13:28

Agree @MiaN because otherwise stuff sits in drawers and 'I might use it' doesn't happen. Love Vinted. Much rather it made its way to someone that loves it quickly.

virgocatlover · 06/09/2024 14:01

M&S contents!

reallyree.com/ms-beauty-advent-calendar-full-contents-launch-info/

Sad they've put the price up to £50 though. But it seems there is no minimum spend to get it- probably caused by some people returning items after they've got the calendar.

And it gives people time to use it whilst the product is freshly made and at its best.

Hourglass have released their Christmas palettes, I’ll definitely be getting one. www.hourglasscosmetics.co.uk/products/ambient-lighting-edit-unlocked

I have three DoDs in my Liberty, I’ll be replacing with that, a Lisa Eldridge eyeshadow Palette and I think something with copper peptide or isolate. I’ve never used one before, does anyone have recommendations? The Wildsmith Active Repair Copper Peptide Serum 30ml featured in the F&M made me realise I want one.

virgocatlover · 06/09/2024 14:08

Looking at the contents a bit closer. I think this is the first time EVER I may give M&S a miss. Too many hair products (6?!) , boring nail varnish colours and just not exciting. I prefer the look of H&B to this.

I just looked and there are 11 products I wouldn’t use so it’s another no. I’m getting very pissed off because I love an advent calendar.

virgocatlover · 06/09/2024 14:17

I'm holding out hope for the Boots premiums calendars.

JL is on my maybe list and I could be persuaded with a few others if there are discounts.

I actually like the look of M&S this year! Most things I’d use or know someone else who’d use them so it’s definitely a contender for me. There is a minimum spend of £30 - it’s mentioned further down the page.

IlovePond · 06/09/2024 14:25

I am also disappointed with M&S. I don’t use that green hair stuff they shove in every calendar and I can’t stand blow dry products, (I don’t even own a hairdryer!) I loathe PawPaw and I agree two nail varnishes is overkill! I don’t use cleansing balm, either🙀

However, I do love their Formula night cream and a few other things seem ok. If the FS scent was Arizona Bloom, I would have gone for it, (I am currently in love with that - even though it doesn’t last long).

I wonder how it will sell with the increase in price.

virgocatlover · 06/09/2024 14:25

Oh yes I missed that @Talisin

MyStylish40s · 06/09/2024 14:27

M&S never appeals to me, very repetitive too

I’m also holding out for Boots. I’ve gone over and over Space NK, and am really having second thoughts. It’s just such a huge amount of money. Hopefully they will discount it

IlovePond · 06/09/2024 14:30

If I had M&S vouchers knocking around, (I don’t😿), I might consider the a/c, but as it is, I certainly wouldn’t pay £50 for it, (plus the minimum £30 spend!)

It’s a hard pass from me atm. (I am ridiculously sad about this as I usually like the M&S calendar 😹)

Me too @Talisin , and I'm not usually an M&S calendar purchaser. I had it once and it was just okay, but I'd use everything this year. It also has my normal cleansing balm and night cream which would be ideal for travel. It's a nice budget alternative to the JL this year I think.

I also really want that Dragon Hourglass palette now @BakeOffRewatch ! But I don't really need it. I had the Wildsmith copper peptide cream in a previous F&M calendar and it was very good. Very £££ though. I think the Ordinary do some, but I haven't tried it.

Youngungun · 06/09/2024 14:33

Just in case anyone missed it, if you are interested in LiB, I got a £28+ free delivery voucher today. You have to sign up on the website, they are individual and only valid in September. There is also just an launch offer for 25 off.

brings it down to c. £140- not quite Tik tok levels. It’s not for me sadly I don’t think as there is much stuff I won’t use. I’m jumping between liberty, space nk or nothing… and waiting to see on fenwicks.

Therightcoffee · 06/09/2024 14:35

Oooh I've got an hourglass palette that's similar, it's a great pick me up @BakeOffRewatch

I've had copper peptides, not life changing but do love wild smith. I'm still trying to tell myself I do not need f&m this year...

That M&S calendar is no worse than many of them - solid decent quality products. My mum swears by the Prai neck stuff in there she loves it. I agree though, for me, I've got about 10 bottles of stuff for blow drying and styling hair that get used a handful of times a year..

JudgeBurrito · 06/09/2024 14:43

I'm torn with Space NK too @MyStylish40s , I really want about 6 things from it and they'd cost me £170ish alone. So do I spend £80 and get all the rest, or do I save the £80 and just buy the things I need/want? But there are things I would definitely use, e.g. ExfoliKate which is £70 alone. I'm leaning towards thinking it is worth it for me, even at full price.

You may be better off buying the items separately now and getting the free GWP which is worth £300

Thanks for the idea but the GWP doesn't appeal to me at all. I really don't need any more small plastic tubes lying around waiting to be used up. The GWP has 3 or 4ml of some stuff, it's just not enough to know if it's any good. The only things I do like are the Alpha H liquid gold (50ml) and the KS cleanser (30ml) but I think I'd be better with the calendar.

I'd spend the extra £80 for what, 18 more things? Surely some will take your fancy, or you can gift any you don't like?

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 06/09/2024 15:05

I’ve been waiting on M&S and Next. Next has two AVs but neither of them nor M&S appeal to me so I’ll pass on those. Still awaiting Boots as I bought the No7 one last year which was packed with stuff I use in full sizes so that’s always a good one for me. My Harrods AV came today and I only ordered it last weekend so that was quick.

CorneliaStreet · 06/09/2024 15:22

I think M and S looks ok, though I agree it’s repetitive. There are always Nails Inc polishes, a black eyeliner and of course a little tube of Elasticiser. At this point they should just give up any pretence of selling anything from that line as a standalone product!

What on earth is a foot and leg mist?
