Beauty advent calendars 2024 #2

With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

Vogue is very disappointing - one jewellery item this year, a migraine-inducing patterned silk eye mask and... Vogue playing cards. Wtf? Even the Foreo is the cleansing one, not the anti-age one. Meh and nope.

I've added CB to my spreadsheet and it hasn't fared well. Similar number of Bleh to ok/good items so that's a no too.

I do think I am getting a bit of AC fatigue as seeing the same things appearing over and over again is just not exciting.

Agree that Vogue is decidedly disappointing when compared with last year. Still some nice stuff and pretty much all genuinely full sized - but scarf, Foreo, playing cards, eye mask etc all feel like filler.

I quite liked the playing cards 😂

And the cashmere socks. But not enough reason to order it, alas

At a quick glance, I think that Vogue is a no for me too. Too many single use masks, don't like the scarf or the earrings or the silk eye mask (how can it possibly be worth £95!). I already have one of those foreo things.

I don't understand the thinking of putting in another silk eye mask. There was one last year. Do people who make up calendars think that we need a new one every year?!

On the plus side, now that I'm not getting this, I might be able to justify Harrods. Watched an unboxing last night and was very tempted!

I really like the box and some of the items on Vogue, but not enough perfume and too many non-beauty items for me. I would like to get it just once though at some point

ive had the liberty calendar for the last few years but am going to try something different this year. So far I like the look of the JL one best.

Now I'd love some of the wrist towel things. Whenever I use an oil cleanser, I add some water so it goes milky before taking it off with a flannel. This is the messy bit. Will see if anyone sells them on the Caroline Hirons selling page as they are super good with pricing and rules - you cannot sell advent calendar items to make profit.

I agree! I'm not even remotely tempted this year.

@Roundaboot I double cleanse so apply a balm to remove make up, and remove with a wrung out flannel or cloth (minimal mess at this stage)
Then I run the tap to wet my face, apply a foaming cleanser with my hands and then rinse with my hands. This is where the mess can happen!

Me too, although even on lazy nights where I just use the balm cleanser with a face halo I still manage to soak the bathroom. It's not me that gets wet, the water runs down my elbows and onto the floor (or yes, worse - soaking my sleeves 🤢). I have a tendency to mess though, if you've seen the Nivea advert where the girl splashes water on her face that should give you a pretty good idea of what I'm like! I'm a bit surprised that on a thread like this where we're all very into skincare etc so many people are surprised face washing can get messy.

Love the box fo Vogue but the contents don't appeal at all! Still holding out for Space NK and Boots (though Cult Beauty keeps turning my head for some odd reason).

Vogue is a no for me. I got my Harrods fragrance calendar sorted today and unless I succumb to Liberty that will be it this year.

Does anyone reckon there is any point whatsoever in going to the Harrods in London to see if I can get a fragrance calendar? I live up north but am visiting a relative in London this weekend. I have some time to kill tomorrow so a jaunt to knightsbridge isn't out of the question.

Was definitely going to get Vogue again this year but don’t like the look of the contents at all. last year was soooo much better. It’s a ‘no’ from me.
I need to find an alternative now 🤔

How hard can it be . They need sensible people like us to tell them what to put in the boxes. Whose idea was all that nonsense ?!

Harrods moves up the charts while I wait for space NK and Hannah Martin /ok - her beauty box for ok last Christmas was so fab I often wish I'd bought two

CB were obviously listening to me and have uploaded a photo explaining the differences between their two boxes

I don't think I'd mind getting the vogue one as a present but for £355 you'd really have to love 2/3 of it. It's at least a little bit different.

That black scarf is quite niche!

Oh Vogue is just so disappointing 😞 I also think they are being cheeky raising the price

House of Fraser are doing an Xmas box, not quite a calendar as 17 items but it looks pretty decent for only £69 plus postage. A few perfumes in there reckon I'll get my money's worth. It could be the undiscovered gem of the season!

I am quite tempted by H&B this year - I gave it a miss last time, having loved it in previous years, as I have no use for shampoo bars, soap, etc. but this one looks good.

I like some of the items in Vogue, but quite a few DoD for me.

My favourites so far, (if money was no object), are Harrods beauty and Space NK. I am currently restraining myself from ordering Space NK - it does look good!

At £355, I'd be surprised if Vogue sells out this year. I wonder whether they'd actually reduce it.

My money is on Harrods or Space NK being the first to sell out.
