Beauty advent calendars 2024 #2

With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

Even if I liked the Harrods one, I wouldn't get it. Out of principle really because I know on launch day in store they did free samples and a points lucky dip.
JL is the closest for me but I do think it is slightly over priced. If they do a discount I will try to get it, if it's not snapped up.
H&B looks great and I'll get that for stocking the bathroom anyway.
It's disappointing none have hit the mark for me this year. Last year I wanted them all and purchased a few. This year will seem sad not having one but I understand there's bigger problems in the world.

Vogue is pretty rubbish, box is gorgeous though! Last years was really good compared to this one.
Space NK it is then.

At the moment the only one that appeals to me enough to spend the ££ is JL. I will probably get M&S as it's cheap enough to be both good value and a surprise and not look at the contents too closely. I'm also intrigued about the Boots calendars so hopefully they're good. Three is my limit.

I get the LF beauty box as a joint mum / daughter thing with my eldest dd who is 15

I am not an expert and just love the excitement of the unknown gift.

I then have been persuaded by reading this thread (so I blame each and every one of you ) as I bought the advent Callander

It arrived- is the usual thing to wait for the actual day or is it just open now as it's all been announced anyway?

Has everything been announced now apart from Fenwick,Jo Malone, and M&S?

Not sure whether Elle are doing one this year. I've not heard anything so far.

Wonder when Fenwick will announce their 2024 advent. Sure it was some time in September last year. 🤔

@cunoyerjudowel - some people open straight away but I like the whole ritual of opening every day in December. And there are opening threads on here - some specific to various calendars and a mixed waifs and strays one. It’s a lovely part of December for me.

I was adamant I was buying Vogue this year- I’m not. It’s really disappointing.

For those thinking about JL - in 2022 they did a nice GWP and the advent calendar was included in the required spend which made it really good value. It then reduced in price too and they honoured the reduction with a refund if you had bought less than 28 days before. Not sure if it was the same last year.

I remember being a bit fed up that I rushed to order JL the day it launched in 2022 because I missed out on the gwp and was a few days over being able to claim the price difference.
Last year there was no gwp but they did reduce the price slightly around Black Friday.

I do remember that that happened to someone on the threads @pinkchampagne1. I think I was just lucky. Got the GWP and the refund!

I think I panicked that it might sell out if I didn’t order straight away because it had sold out quickly the year before. You were lucky getting the gift set and the discount. 🙂
Last year it seemed most of the calendars sold out before they had to offer any good discounts.

Finally Vogue is out but unfortunately it's not for me. The playing cards were probably the item I liked most!

I'm open to any of the ones I've seen so far with a good discount but nothing has got me tempted to buy now.

The H&B one looks really good value.

I didn't like all the yellow gold in last year's Vogue calendar. I love this year's red box and some of the contents, but do feel that it could be far better curated. There is just one mass market scent. I would expect 3 niche scents - maybe 10-15 ml of Frederic Malle or Le Labo in scents that aren't usually included. A whole skin care routine and makeup look would be nice too. There are two light sheer glosses/oils. A matte or satin lipstick would be better. A Lisa Eldridge palette and a Cire Trudon candle would round things off nicely. I don't mind the playing cards. A mini sturdy notepad/diary to match the calendar would be nice to keep in my handbag.

That's what you might expect when paying £355, but what they actually deliver appears to left over stock that nobody can sell 😂

I mean, can you actually imagine anyone paying £95 for an eye mask, let alone THAT eye mask. And that scarf!

I think that last year's box was better too as it was something that you could have out all year. That bright red won't go with many people's decor, and it doesn't look good with the illustrations either imo.
