One thing that has made a difference

I thought it'd be nice to share with each other one thing that's made a difference to our style or beauty.

For me, it's been the use of nail oil. Really cannot believe the difference it has made to my nails and I've been pretty good at looking after my nails for years!

For me it's losing 20lbs (still going) and a course of CACI treatments. I also use their eye cream and face serum, they're lovely. And I'm getting some lip filler on Monday. They've lost some of their fullness (I'm 53) and it's more obvious where they aren't symmetrical.

Clothes wise - to not buy cheap clothes! And only things that I love. Embrace my shape, as that's what suits me and makes me look smaller.

Palmers cocoa butter everynight as face 'cream'

Magic for the skin. I thought a colleague at work was 30 - they are 50!! He said he uses Palmers as his mum used it and she looks amazing!

And bio oil round eyes once a week to strengthen skin and try keeping wrinkles at bay.

When I was 13 my mum got me in the habit of using moisturiser (good old Oil of Olay at the time) every morning, after I went swimming and, when I started wearing make-up, every time I removed it. It's one habit that's definitely paid off.

Yes mine too, I've been moisturising for about the same age and there is no doubt its helped my complexion. Probably one of the best things.

Pbi - try permanent lip liner first?

I had mine done at tracey giles, and it's made them appear fuller and more symmetrical. But not worried about migration or fish lips.....

I've been meaning to ask about tret for ages: can you buy it in the UK? And what would you advise for a beginner? I'm 48. Thanks in advance.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/08/2024 21:14

Revitabrow (from the Revitalash makers) really helps my poor excuse for eyebrows from my tweezer-happy teen years

Dyson Airstrait. I can get a near salon effect with no pulling on my scalp

Bleach London toner after growing out the grey I though “no, stuff this” and I’ve got brown-ish hair again, not a blocky dye job , much more subtle, but it washes out

Smittenkitchen · 09/08/2024 21:21

Colour analysis.
I was going around wearing a lot of colours that drained me (too cool). I've completely bought into it and love how it's something that can help you feel good without spending much money or losing weight or drastically altering yourself physically. I've been using Vinted to sell the stuff I had that I can see now didn't really suit and to buy stuff that does.

Yes via a dermatologist. It's prescription only in the UK.

@Jewelanemone tell us more about revitalash? I have terrible lashes and trying so hard to make them fabulous.

Alifemoreordinary123 · 09/08/2024 23:31

@Toastiemaker inspired by this. Have just started a push up routine and this will help me keep going. Thank you

WhatNext24 · 10/08/2024 06:26

Has anyone tried collagen supplements and had good results? I am thinking of trying them but not convinced by the hype (yet).

Forced myself to consistently exercise ( 30 mins max but 4-5 times a week during lunch time ) and was really impressed with the results after just two months. More defined waist, stronger legs and toned arms. I'm menopausal , not slim but definitely better sculpted now

Can i ask what sort of exercises you're doing?

StasisMom · 10/08/2024 14:05

Thanks @Obek1999

dontcryformeargentina · 10/08/2024 14:17

@Fathomless Mainly Hiit exercise classes. I have Pure gym close by and whatever class is run during lunchtime, I do them. Initially it was 2-3 times but noticed a bigger difference with 4-5 times per week. My main issue is my waistline and it has improved within two months of exercising.

I've been using it every single night for just over a year and I honestly would never have believed the difference it's made. My eyelashes were short and straight (thanks dad!) and now they're long. They have a slight curl but not loads, so I use an eyelash curler and mascara. I would say it took around 3 months to see a real difference, maybe less.

I've never used a single product that's made such a massive difference. I still gaze at my eyelashes as I can't quite believe it.

Summertimelooooonghols · 11/08/2024 12:04

Has anyone used their PMI for a prescription for tretinoin? Was it any cheaper than using skin and me or similar?

Appreciate my nhs gp is unlikely to dish it out for nhs prescription charge.

HappyLittleNarwhal · 11/08/2024 13:00

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/08/2024 09:11

@GinJarRogers and @Wexone - I had a mate at uni (back in the last century!) who had a “cost per wear” approach to clothing - was a massive game changer in how I thought about clothes and took me far too long to realise this is the right way to think about clothes.

a £100 dress you’ll wear once is over priced compared to a £300 coat you’ll wear 200 times easily before retiring it.

Her view was if you could reasonably expect to get anything below £5 per wear, then as long as you had the money, buy it.

This has been rebranded as 'girl math' which my husband LOVES 😁

More info please!!! How many classes for the 2 week improvement?

@StasisMom you don’t need an appointment with a dermatologist, there are a number of online companies with dermatologists and pharmacists who will prescribe you tretinoin. ‘Skin&me’, ‘dermatica, ‘and begin’ are three such places. They offer tretinoin, combined with other ingredients depending on your skin concerns, after completing questionnaires and sending a few photos. They start you on a less concentrated dose and gradually titrate upwards.

Femme2804 · 18/08/2024 23:38

weight training 3-4 times a week. Feel stronger, stamina higher.

hair professionally coloured

tretinoin for face. Makes my skin really good

ON cloud shoes. Really like walking on cloud 😂

MissSookieStackhouse · 19/08/2024 08:44

Colourless, clear mascara for eyebrows - adds shape, volume and grooms them well, and is completely invisible. Mine is from the Collection, so cheap as chips too. Also Boots Airbrush Primer - invisibly smooths out fine lines and pores. I got both of these products from beauty calendars originally and would never have thought to buy either of them otherwise, but I wouldn’t be without them now!

StasisMom · 19/08/2024 22:08

Thanks @Jedstre , will look into it.

@Smittenkitchen do you mind me asking how much it cost you and what you got for your money please? I know two people who had their colours done with different experiences. One friend came away with colour cards for her bag and recommendations on what goes with what. The other had colour swatches and more than one consultation. Can't remember the details exactly.
