One thing that has made a difference

I thought it'd be nice to share with each other one thing that's made a difference to our style or beauty.

For me, it's been the use of nail oil. Really cannot believe the difference it has made to my nails and I've been pretty good at looking after my nails for years!

Getting a dog - forces me to do a hour/hour and a half walk a day on top of whatever other exercise I was planning, and my dog has no intention of accepting that I’m knackered and just want to skip exercise and watch crap tv, so I have to at least do this daily if nothing else. i have fabulous thighs.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/08/2024 09:11

@GinJarRogers and @Wexone - I had a mate at uni (back in the last century!) who had a “cost per wear” approach to clothing - was a massive game changer in how I thought about clothes and took me far too long to realise this is the right way to think about clothes.

a £100 dress you’ll wear once is over priced compared to a £300 coat you’ll wear 200 times easily before retiring it.

Her view was if you could reasonably expect to get anything below £5 per wear, then as long as you had the money, buy it.

Can someone share links to the right tretinoin and revitalash?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/08/2024 09:16

Oh another game changer - actually letting stuff have time to soak into my skin. (Leaving a gap between serum, moisturiser, sun cream then make up)

Can someone share links to the right tretinoin and revitalash?

This is Revitalash (linked to LookFantastic, as that was best price last time I bought, but may not be the same today).

Very little alcohol and daily yoga as well as lots of water.

WeRateSquirrels · 06/08/2024 09:32

Skin - finding a tret formulation strong enough to make a difference but mild enough to use every day.

Clothes - choosing a colour palette and sticking with it so everything goes together.

Also prioritising healthy eating and exercise so aforementioned clothes still fit.

I'm hardly a style icon but:
Clearasil which sorted out my recurrent acne
Good-quality SPF50 sunscreen for my face - my skin looks pretty good for my age
A decent hairdresser who can handle my batshit curly hair

Using better quality hair products. Only need a small amount, lasts ages. It's far more expensive but I now have 3 different shampoos, a leave in treatment and 2 conditioners in the range.

Before I'd have at least ten different shampoos, five or six conditioners and loads of treatments. Hair didn't like most of the products, hence constantly buying different ones.

My hair now looks miles better too.

Great tip. What brand do you buy now?

Coastalcreeksider · 06/08/2024 09:52

It's Kerastase, online from Just My Look. It smells lovely too.

I use a volume one, a thickener one and a blonde one alternately. I use the blonde conditioner but only once a week as my hair is still quite fine and goes limp if I use it too often.

I also have a Revlon One Step that's been fab for giving a salon style look. I blow dry first then run the Revlon through it.

Hard to pick one thing.
Maintaining a good weight
Botox (just a little)
Facial treatments like BBL and Moxi (laser) has been amazing for my skin.

StasisMom · 06/08/2024 10:20

Please could someone recommend where to get teeth whitened in Manchester / Liverpool areas? Thanks.

I used crest whitening strips professional effects, costs £30 every 6 months and just stick the strips on for 10 days, 30 mins a time. They got my teeth from yellow to white! Don't pay expensive dentists

KreedKafer · 06/08/2024 10:31

Properly cleansing my face morning and night, with a cream/balm/oil cleanser and a damp flannel. It made a massive difference to my skin. I will never go near face-wipes or micellar water again.

courtyardofhope · 06/08/2024 10:36

I haven't got the answers for this but place marking

StasisMom · 06/08/2024 10:43

Thanks @Disturbia81 !

Getting my spider veins removed has boosted my confidence to wear skirts and shorts.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 06/08/2024 05:53

Yes. I buy the waitrose canned in water ones, add vinegar and black pepper and often grill them on finntoast rye. My hairdresser was amazed at the change in my hair.

It doesn’t surprise me that your hair looks amazing. I give them to our Labradors and they have the shiniest coats!

I can’t quite get behind the taste (except with wine, in Lisbon) but will try to up my other oily fish eating.

AndAnotherThingToo · 05/08/2024 04:33

Oooh -thanks just ordered the revitalash -is getting amazing reviews!!!

It’s amazing stuff! You won’t regret it!

VickyPollard25 · 06/08/2024 19:02

What nail oil do you use?

Tattooed eyebrows. Found a lady who does amazing work to do mine and I can't stop looking at them. Absolutely love them. Strangely I can now apply eye make up better. Wasted years and money on Microblading and Rimmel eyebrow pencil. Never again.

Where do you get it done? I had mine done over 10 years ago and it was a disaster. My eyes swelled up so badly I had to take week off work. The colour was so dark I was powdering my eyebrows for months! I’d love to find someone good.

Mollyplop999 · 06/08/2024 19:31

Topsyturvey10 the Aussie range do a shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. I use that and then a micro fibre head to catch the drips. Don't dry your hair, then I use Only Curls hydrating curl cream. I was skeptical about buying it but it actually works. In between washes I just spritz it with water and use only curls volumising mousse. I can't believe how easy it is now, I don't even diffuse it, just let it dry naturally. I can't believe how many people have commented on how good it looks.

Libbyloo174 · 06/08/2024 19:33

In no particular order, Botox, fillers and ozempic!!

JerkintheMerkin · 06/08/2024 19:42

@WetBandits tattooed eyebrows really are a game changer. I completely understand what you mean about your face looks finished.

@StasisMom it's more of a cosmetic tattoo which lasts up to 3 years. I did Microblading but it only looks good for a few weeks then I had to pencil them in as they fade too much which was a bit pointless. Now I wake up and my brows are there and ready to start the day Grin
