One thing that has made a difference

I thought it'd be nice to share with each other one thing that's made a difference to our style or beauty.

For me, it's been the use of nail oil. Really cannot believe the difference it has made to my nails and I've been pretty good at looking after my nails for years!

Agree totally on the clothes part. I have done the same people balk when I say I have spent 250e on a rant coat for walking dogs. but god its a lifesaver and worn a couple times a week. my wfh wardrobe is a mix of designer brands but very comfortable and casual now for big events I am renting my dress etc

Yes it’s such a game changer. I used to think nothing of spending £200+ on a dress/shoes I would wear once or twice a year but scrimp on the things I wore every day. Now I never buy going out clothes but prioritise the things I wear daily. I live in jeans/tshirts so make sure I buy really good quality ones that I feel good in. It’s really made a big difference.

and makes a difference to your mood.etc. plus once you know what brands you like you can pick up excellent second hand stuff. just purchased a cashmere z and v jumper for 80e on a second hand page. Will be nice for working from home in winter

And for me - discovering Cetaphil, the large white pot with green lid. My skin has NEVER felt moisturised, no matter what I tried and this is brilliant, also helps with my rosacea.

Could you please link to the one please? My skin sounds the same so I'm keen to try this!

Running. I don't have any cellulite now and don't cover my legs up all the time. I'm a bit heavier than I used to be but a much nicer shape and carry clothes better.

Topsyturvey10 · 05/08/2024 22:33

Asking the ladies who are saying they lost weight, what program/method did you follow to get results?

RosaRoja · 05/08/2024 22:46

Haircut & colour.
Sorting out my teeth.

Eating sardines every day, they are a great natural source of collagen and vitamin d and make my hair and nails strong and shiny and my skin glow.

A second would be the caroline girvan iron programme for giving me abs and general muscle definition.

Do you have the tinned ones?

Freespeechisvital · 05/08/2024 16:58

Gave up alcohol 8 years ago

No amount of botox, cream or treatments comes close

Well this rules! Especially money not spent!

JudyJudeplusOne · 05/08/2024 23:09

For my skin, Simple Micellar Water Cleanser is absolutely way better than much pricier brands.

For hair though I can't beat Aveda - it's £28 a bottle but is so worth it.

dontcryformeargentina · 06/08/2024 03:23

Forced myself to consistently exercise ( 30 mins max but 4-5 times a week during lunch time ) and was really impressed with the results after just two months. More defined waist, stronger legs and toned arms. I'm menopausal , not slim but definitely better sculpted now

Yes. I buy the waitrose canned in water ones, add vinegar and black pepper and often grill them on finntoast rye. My hairdresser was amazed at the change in my hair.

I eat loads of oily fish, I like the mackerel in olive oil from waitrose.

BUT I thought there was a limit to how much you should eat as regards oily fish?

My tip is cerave. I've spent years trying to find moisturisers that don't aggravate the Excema on my face. I use the daily moisturiser that has spf30 and then the big pot once I've cleansed in the morning.

I also use the big pot on my legs and arms. It's better than any cheap or expensive moisturiser I've used before and I used to buy clarins for years.

I also switched from foundation to Erborian CC cream for every day coverage. Much more natural and a small tube lasts me ages.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 06/08/2024 07:27

@Droolylabradors I think the main concern with too much oily fish is heavy metals. I think though becuase sardines are small and at the bottom of the food chain the risk is not very high. I guess microplastics may also be a concern but I personally feel the pros outweigh the cons and I would rather get nutrients from whole food than say an unregulated omega 3 supplement.

That's a really good point I hadnt thought about it like that...
Mackerel are bigger so maybe I'll go for sardines instead!

I also suggest iron ferrous sulphate/high strength vitamin C tablet every two days on waking.

I found out I had non anaemic iron deficiency. GP was testing me before HRT. She looked back at all blood tests for 15 yrs since I had children and I'd been very low at every single one (but still in NHS guidelines).

I always had to have an afternoon sleep when the children were little. This explained why. Imagine how much more energy I'd have had to spend with my children!

coffeestains · 06/08/2024 07:46

Early (ish) nights - I'm in bed by 10pm

Bellahadthese · 06/08/2024 07:46

One hour daily walk
Cutting out sugar
Led face mask
Best thing for hair ever is a plastic scalp massager from Primark used morning and night for a few mins- my hair has grown so long and thick

Ohjustpeasoff · 06/08/2024 07:53

Actually following an exercise plan that the physio set for me (as opposed to previous visits where I’d say I’d do it and then not). Cured my lifelong ‘bad knee’.

There was an article about alcohol marketing to women.
It's far more harmful to women in health terms but also skin, than men but they target and then push sales of creams, treatments, procedures to fix the issues caused by over consumption.
Men are not targeted in the same way.
Will see if I can dig it out

Abigalandthefoxes I have been thinking of splashing out on this - would you mind recommending a brand/brands ?

not going to lie I just put places that do it in to treatwell and just picked a salon. Had it done in March and it still looks great my hair drys naturally into beach waves instead of a frizzy ball and I just use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner on it.
