Hi all, I need a dress or two to wear on days I have to go in to work. No real dress code (NHS) so looking for comfort and practicality.

I have no waist, it has disappeared and I am struggling to know what might suit me now. Anyone a similar shape found something flattering?

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations! Inspired by some of the styles on this thread I bought this dress & think the fit & shape is pretty flattering. I prefer plain colours to prints usually but this was reduced to £30 so decided to give it a try. I would buy this style again if I could find it in a plain colour or a subtle print that I liked. I'm an apple sadly and though lovely dresses neither the Hush Kensington or the Nobodys Child Luna would suit me. I have no waist and they would emphasise my tummy. Sad

donkeymcdonkface · 26/01/2024 08:12

I am a tall apple, and love Toast. The dresses are so flattering. Everyone asks if I have lost weight when I wear them (I wish).

donkeymcdonkface · 26/01/2024 08:23

I love this dress and have it in blue. Wear it all the time.
No wrap dresses for me or belted - look dreadful in anything like that

RandomMess · 26/01/2024 08:32

Dropped waist, that's a rare find!

AhBiscuits · 26/01/2024 21:41

Evie on Traitors, hers is an example of a bad apple dress. She looks like a sausage.

RandomMess · 26/01/2024 22:17

I know I was shocked at her choice of dress

WriterOfWrongs · 26/01/2024 23:39

Do you mean Evie’s blue, white & green dress @AhBiscuits & @RandomMess ?

If so, I agree.

RandomMess · 26/01/2024 23:49

Yes

AhBiscuits · 27/01/2024 07:04

Yes, it was awful on her. Clung in all the wrong places.

Talisin · 28/01/2024 21:40

The FatFace Chester cord dress that was mentioned earlier (and has just turned up in an MN email) is in the Next clearance section in a couple of colours. fyi.

Gah I ordered that (not in the next sale) and it turned up a few days ago. So missed out on the sale price there! I really like it. Have it in navy blue.

Well, you could get the red one 😁

WriterOfWrongs · 28/01/2024 22:09

@Talisin you're a pusher Grin

RandomMess · 28/01/2024 23:21

Seasalt sail by the stars tunic is in my shopping bag now 😂 have it in dark green but a few other colours wouldn't go amiss.

Necklines that work well:
Deep V
Cowl neck
Boat or slash neck

VenusClapTrap · 29/01/2024 21:20

The 100 Stars dress arrived. It is enormous. They must have used a tonne of pins on that model. It’s a huge shame because the fabric is beautiful and it could be so gorgeous. Gutted.

How disappointing, it looked like such a beautiful dress! Is there a smaller size you can try?

I really liked lots of dresses on the 100 Stars website, although not buying at the moment in the hope I can lose a bit of weight.

No smaller size, I bought the S/M. You could fit two of me in it, and I’m honestly not tiny - size 10/12 depending on the shop and really need to lose weight because I’m only 5’3” and all tummy, like a weeble.

Pinkshoes71 · 30/01/2024 20:48

@RandomMess I agree. I love cowl and boat necks. I wish I had seamstress skills, I would have the perfect wardrobe 😬

Following with interest as I also don't have a waist! I have several of these dresses from Seasalt. Keep an eye out for their Spring/Summer linen dresses as they don't have a waist and hang beautifully.https://www.seasaltcornwall.com/heartfelt-dress. I also have this one and it is perfect too. https://www.seasaltcornwall.com/killick-knee-length-shift-dress?color=17830

Ooh I have this in both green and navy, and thanks to your post I will also soon have it in black for an absolute steal! Thank you. The green one is my favourite dress. Size down though because they’re huge.

FindingMeno · 03/02/2024 10:04

The other thing is to pair dresses with waterfall jackets/ cardigans.
I remember someone on mn saying that they suit noone and are not fashionable.
Well they suit me, and even if not the height of fashion they can look very stylish.
It increases dress options massively in cooler weather as they hide and disguise the tum.

I've found various dresses OK. Have given up on skirts. Shirt dresses best, but can sometimes wear other styles. Try Fatface and White Stuff.

I love Zuri dresses. I always get compliments on them. I have 6 that I wear on rotation for work https://www.shopzuri.com/collections/all

A bit too pricey for me SunflowerSeahorse.

Elodie9 · 10/02/2024 14:22

I like the dresses from Weird fish, some real bargains in the sale eg £50 100% organic cotton dresses down to £20-15 if you are lucky in the sizes.
The ones I have are really like a knee length tunic, 3/4 sleeves and look nice with coloured opaques and ankle boots (in my opinion)
I do really like the White stuff dress pp ordered but not available in my size unfortunately!
