I don't get her. She's not a dermatologist or anything similar as far as I can make out. Wiki says she's worked for Aveda and SpaceNK in shops? She claims on her website to be "trained in over 100 brands" - brands of what? Mascara and eyeshadow application or soap and cleansing milk?

So she's another influencer with very little science behind her is that right? Or am I missing something?

You're right on all counts

CornishPorsche · 21/02/2024 16:36

@Wictc they couldn't work out how to apply them when I tried to buy jewellery there last year, but I didn't insist on it and paid separately as I knew I'd use the credit online.

The Caroline Hirons Facebook group posted a pic of Caroline going to Liberty’s……potential skin rocks incoming? Will be gutted if any samples in next box as cancelled mine

I’ll be gutted as well, but only because I don’t want to support CH in any way whatsoever.

Ploppppppppp · 21/02/2024 16:41

Oh I’m obviously in the minority then 🤣. It’s her book that got me in to skin care and it has really worked for me following it'

Why's that? Not challenging, just curious. I personally have no strong views either way.

Finally got round to trying the Liberty Tudor perfume from advent calander. I love the scent but like lots of you really unimpressed with how long it lasts - probably 2 1/2 hours tops. Certainly wouldn't buy it at full price for that reason.

I've decided to hang on and see what the April box is like and believe me it had better be a good one or I'm out. To be honest I've found a number of products I do like with the boxes and enjoyed experimenting with others so I'm willing to pay a bit. I do hope they start wrapping items - I've not had any broken yet but they're just slung into the boxes without much care so far as I can tell.

I really want the LbTy Rosinda from the last box but its too expensive. I’m going to go for my fabourite Floris one instead (sadly not one stocked by Liberty) About half the price and just as beautiful.

I’ve done beauty boxes before and hadn’t realised, there seemed to be something missing from the Liberty ones, tissue paper! Birchbox, Douglas and Glossybox were all full of it.

listsandbudgets · 21/02/2024 17:24

Looks like CH fans will be getting their "Skin Rocks" from Liberty - and if you have nothing better to do on the evening of the 28th Feb you can even fork out £35 for an evening with CH (I've never heard of the woman until now and I will be washing my hair)

PS if my skin starts rocking I'm going to be extremely concerned

OooScotland · 21/02/2024 17:51

From the shop floor to CEO, Caroline Hirons is considered the most powerful woman in the skincare industry.

Really? 😒 I must be missing a lot. I thought she was a beauty Sales Associate turned SM influencer.

I don’t like her foul mouthed style of presentation and I think her books are money for old rope so I’ll be passing on anything to do with this new launch.

deepsea9 · 21/02/2024 18:08

I dislike CH as well. I was a former accolyte that took her advice too seriously and neglected to realise that the sheer overload of products was just to sell more and may have suited her rhino-hide but actually ruined my skin (I do not suit acids).

Interestingly, the dermatologist I went to see to fix the problems I was having said I was far from the first she had seen who had issues after taking CH's 'advice'.

Nortono · 21/02/2024 18:11

I’ve got a le labo rose roller ball from somewhere and I love it.

is that from the advent calendar?

Yes from the advent - I’ve not used mine yet.

Disappointing that Liberty are supporting Caroline Hirons- I wouldn’t have thought she’d fit with the branding.

Might get deleted - I know other threads which were slightly critical were removed.

listsandbudgets · 21/02/2024 18:42

I will not be happy if they remove this entire thread which is almost CH free just because we dare to express an opinion. Once I've made sure home work done, kids fed, cleaning up done etc. etc. etc. I might seek out this CH woman's videos and see what's so great about her.

It reminds me - who on earth is Paula? there was something or other from a brand called "Paula's choice" in the AC. DD was delighted to take it off my hands - had the impression she was another social influencer of some variety.

I'm getting old and grumpy I think - cue Victor(ia) Meldrew Grin

I think the Paula in question was a journalist in the 80s and 90s and went on to create a website plus the Paula's choice brand. I've tried one or two of the products and quite liked them but not enough for them to become part of my everyday collection. I'm sure I read somewhere that Paula's choice had been bought by Unilever or similar?

Branster · 21/02/2024 18:57

@listsandbudgets Paula's Choice has been around for a very long time, particularly good acid exfoliants.
Actually good products.
I do hate the way tiktok and the like devalue some brands. I would not aim the products to a younger audience (assuming your DD is under 17 and that's where she heard the name) Too harsh for young healthy skin, even the gentle exfoliants (same as Drunk Elephant , way too strong for young skin. I don't actually like DE personally but do rate Paulas Choice)

Paula is Paula Begoun. I believe she is a writer and journalist who wrote some books called ‘Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me’ and a series of ‘Beauty Bibles’.

Paula’s Choice is her skincare brand. Always touted by the likes of Caroline Hirons and India Knight. 🫤 I’ve tried a few toners and serums and I’m not keen. It was more like using strange industrial liquids than luxury skincare. I’m clearly feeling grumpy today too 😎

listsandbudgets · 21/02/2024 19:04

@Branster DD is 18. she usually uses The Ordinary but likes to try other things occasionally.

Interesting that Paula's Choice has been around for a long time I got the impression it was quite a new brand - shows what I know

Really? Quite pathetic to not be able to cope with people expressing opinions about your products! (And bizarre,.surely all.the free feedback is.handy!)

It hasn't been around as long as, say, Clarins. But it is an established brand. I thought it was American. Not sure if that's true.
Ah 18, tgen she can see through the bullshit. That's good.
But please encourage her not to use strong acids and not to use exfoliating acids too often. Absolutely no glycolic acid at this age (a few 'popular' products are glycolic heavy).
And I hope she will delight in a lifelong journey of skincare discovery, care and enjoyment!

@Pigtailsandall I love the Suqqu brow pen in khaki no1, (its not a pencil, they do pencils but I haven’t tried them).

The fine brush and translucent ink lets me just fill in a single hair here and there and its completely invisible. If you want to fill in actual gaps, boost the volume of your brows or use a stencil it would be no good.

I’m getting my first Lisa Eldridge lipstick delivered tomorrow (Lucent Lip Colour in Rosy Shell). So looking forward to it, its been an awful week, DH coming down with Covid at last being a highlight.

Based on your recommendation I bought one of these. It is fantastic. I never put anything on my eyebrows. The only downside - reviews suggest it doesn’t last very long . I had never heard of the brand before so Thankyou.

They are very good for foundation if your skin is not too pink.

listsandbudgets · 21/02/2024 19:17

@Branster Thank you. I think she probably knows more about skin care than me though. She did mention acids to me recently telling me I use too many Grin She's doing biology A level and wants to do biochemistry so takes quite an interest in these things - but you're right I don't want her using too much of that sort of stuff so thank you for the advice.

Can't wait for her to release "Listandbudget's Junior Skin Choice" Someone has to support my expensive habits in my old age

PomsRun · 21/02/2024 19:19

@forcedfun generally quite defensive and abrupt in a few things I saw, but tbf I don’t follow her so may have just seen a few things on off days.

Pigtailsandall · 21/02/2024 19:20

I have never heard of this Caroline either, but i LOVE Paula's choice 2%bha liquid exfoliant. It's my desert island skincare must-have. It's the only thing that's ever made an ounce of difference with my blackheads

Aww, glad you like it. They’re fab but no, they don’t last that long, and dry out if you don’t ‘keep them moving’. I still use random brow pencils about half the time to ‘eke out’ the pens.

If you find the brush gets contaminated with foundation or grime it is washable, like a normal makeup brush, and the product comes back through just fine.
