Only a couple of years ago I remember anything from Liberty would arrive in Liberty tissue paper in a Liberty carrier bag within the box. They have really cut back on packaging. Likewise it was always DPD (who are excellent where I live) and now it’s Amazon dumped on the doorstep. Hardly enticing to spend money now.

Cyclingmummy1 · 11/03/2024 22:34

I wrap the stuff I still on vinted better than Liberty wraps their orders.

Ametora · 11/03/2024 22:43

I shop at Liberty a lot. My dog likes it and it is a nice walk up
Last week the purple shopping bag didn't have the traditional purple lining but was plain grey paper- I thought it was just a 1 off but I wonder if they have changed?

I get delivery to store. The toiletries usually come in a black drawstring bag with Liberty on them. Not sure if that is store collection only thing?

LaBrujaPiruja · 11/03/2024 22:49

I always order with delivery to store and everything is beautifully packaged.
Btw, I’ve been to Liberty twice in the last 10 days and ir was well stocked and I managed to leave with what I wanted to buy plus a couple of other things.
I just think they have a not very good selection of goods for online shopping

Ah well then that explains it. First class service for people with access to the store and cattle class for the riff raff in the regions.

No idea if that’s the case or you simply have had bad luck.
I ordered a scarf for my mum last Christmas, collected it and when I arrived home I noticed it was nicely wrapped but not in a Liberty box. Called them and they got a box for me, which I picked up after a few days. They apologised profusely.

I agree- even the basic handkerchiefs come in a box if you collect in store (the dog wears them as neckerchiefs)

I’ve always been under the impression that all stock sold online comes from a warehouse in Redditch (that’s where my last order came from anyway) and the stock held there is entirely separate from the stock held instore at Liberty. Presumably, it’s an Amazon warehouse which Liberty rather haphazardly keep stocked. That would explain why the things we want are never in stock online.

Maybe some of the big ticket items (designer clothes and bags, fine jewellery) are shipped from Liberty itself, but the cheaper stock is handled off-site?

TheChosenTwo · 11/03/2024 23:26

Of all the things I’m looking for when I buy online packaging isn’t something I even consider - you’re not wearing the box or the tissue paper! It all ends up in the recycling anyway. And if you’re giving it as a present I just wrap in my own nice paper.

What can I say- he is a big Liberty fan!
Lots of the staff know him by name and he poses for pictures with tourists in store sporting his scarfs.

( he doesn't ever dress up beyond collar embellishments)

listsandbudgets · 12/03/2024 09:11

I think @Jellycats4life has got it spot on - it's a glorified badly stocked Amazon warehouse.

The necklace I ordered last week is due today - it's managed to get as far as my local delivery depot so fingers crossed!

Actually nice packaging matters to me... at the risk of sounding like an Apprentice candidate - when I buy a luxury item, I want a luxury experience. I mean I don't eat the plates and cutlery but would you be impressed if you went to an expensive restaurant and it was served in a cardboard box with disposable cutlery? Presentation counts for a lot and people do react to it.

Jellycats4life · 12/03/2024 10:08

I agree @listsandbudgets. A store like Liberty needs to lean on its reputation if it wants to compete with its rivals online. And the easiest way to do that would be to provide a more high end online shopping experience to match the instore experience

I mean yes, boxes and tissue paper are fripperies, but I do think it devalues the brand to handle online orders so shoddily. I’ve never ordered from Selfridges, Harrod or Harvey Nicks online, but I bet they don’t use Amazon Logistics.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 12/03/2024 10:10

@Ametora we need to see a picture of your beautifully adorned pooch Grin

BCSurvivor · 12/03/2024 10:21

I agree, re delivery.
I don't necessarily want a Liberty bag or box, but when I'm ordering fabric at £30 a metre and it comes in a cardboard bubblewrap envelope via Amazon, with no protection, it isn't good, particularly if it is then left on my doorstep in the rain.
Once, the envelope was so torn that one piece of fabric was missing!
I can only talk for fabric, but the fabric is hit and miss as to whether it comes from the warehouse or direct from Liberty.
If it comes from Liberty it is usually wrapped in tissue paper.

Summerdew · 12/03/2024 13:36

I agree I want nice packaging, and it doesn’t always go in the bin. I reuse tissue paper (Selfridges in particular use lovely yellow and white striped), and I have a lot of space NK, net a porter and matches boxes used for various things. It should be a luxury spoiling experience and hopefully after the mass exodus they will regroup and make it one.
