I think i'm going to cancel. I like the boxes but i'm sure i could find something lovely to spend £60 on at the same time as not having to bank £240 a year I can only get back by spending with Liberty

if they'd said £2.50 a month i'd probably have stayed but this is a 25% increase.. too much

BurningTheToast · 13/02/2024 15:34

I've been with the BD since the very beginning - that lovely Hera wash bag - but this is disappointing. I didn't buy the advent and so have a couple of hundred pounds there. Now little wary as wouldn't want to lose it if they run into difficulties. I'll probably wait and see if the next box is vastly better to warrant the extra fiver a month but I'll use my credit up on a GWP sometimes soon.

It's a shame - I've loved Liberty's shop since I was a child and this was a little bit of it coming to me in the wilds of Scotland. But £15 a box? It would have to be an improvement on the current offerings which I've always defended because they were effectively free.

Agree with previous posters that they do seem to have endless sales and offers which combined with poor stock control doesn't feel reassuring.

Jellycats4life · 13/02/2024 15:34

I think I might decide after the next box although will probably try and spend some credit/vouchers before then just in case this is the beginning of the end. I will cry if Liberty ever ceases to exist and will probably go into mourning

Same. I love Liberty and one of the pros of signing up is that I wanted to support the brand.

I might stick it out for a little longer, but £60 of “wasted” money per year just isn’t justifiable for me.

I’ve also been worried by their regular sales. Saving up a decent chunk of credit no longer feels like a great idea.

Frazzgirl · 13/02/2024 15:36

Mmm £5 more a month and that can't be used as credit. Will have to see how this goes

QueefofSheena · 13/02/2024 15:37

I’ve cancelled. I’m on a low buy and the last couple of boxes haven’t thrilled me.

Ducksinthebath · 13/02/2024 15:38

Now the big question is what I spend my remaining credit and vouchers on. If I can find some travel sizes for the summer I will be pleased.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 13/02/2024 15:43

@JustforAlice gift with purchase

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 13/02/2024 15:44

Just to add salt to the wound I’ve just gone to buy my favourite perfume and it’s out of stock yet again (was definitely in stock a few days ago as I was going to buy it but hesitated as I couldn’t find my voucher). Hmm

cujo · 13/02/2024 15:45

VoleChomper · 13/02/2024 15:26

Better to spend your balance before cancelling in order to avail of the free shipping.

I think this is going to be the bit that annoys me the most. Cancelled just now and used up most of my credit on NEOM bits, but there will be one last payment taken before its properly cancelled. But no grace period after that to get free shipping...

ferretface · 13/02/2024 15:46

The website is really bad, it needs a complete rebuild.

Bimblesalong · 13/02/2024 15:47

Gah. Cancelled and went to spend my credit on the davines hair milk, which I love - out of stock. The things I want are so rarely in stock that this monthly fee has helped me push the button.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 13/02/2024 15:48

This is so disappointing. I agree that £60 per year for the boxes and having the subscription locked into one shop only with no further benefits isn't really very appealing. But I love Liberty, it's my happy place, and now I no longer live in London I really love having that 'link', ridiculous as that probably sounds!

I will probably wait until the next box, but if there's no really tempting GWP or offer in the next few months, I'm out. What a shame.

I'd be genuinely gutted if it went under, though.

deepsea9 · 13/02/2024 15:50

@BurningTheToast I'm thinking the same as you I'll probably wait and see if the next box is vastly better to warrant the extra fiver a month

They need to pull a really good one out of the bag for the next box though as I think they will lose even the most loyal beauty droppers unless is is great.

Saurus72 · 13/02/2024 15:52

I’ve just cancelled after joining right from the start, quite sad. I’ve found a couple of great new-to-me products from the boxes (Davines OI milk, Charlotte Mensah hair oil) but mostly haven’t used most of the products. I love Liberty too, just can’t justify the extra cost for no benefit. Their marketing team should be ashamed of themselves - shoddy emails and passing off existing benefits as new. I will likely still put £20/month aside to build up a make up fund, but I can then spend it anywhere.

It’s a brave move for them in this economy to ask people to pay 25% more for the same inessential service.

EuniceLopril · 13/02/2024 15:52

I'm just about to cancel.
I don't get promotional emails from them. Tried to speak with their CS about it twice after whining on this thread but got nowhere. No emails means I never know about, or have a link to purchase, Edits or GWP and so of course 10% off Beauty Boxes is no benefit to me. In addition I find the website search function is useless.

I have a reasonable amount of credit, no idea what I want to spend it on!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/02/2024 15:53

God I'm a right dozy mate having just read the email properly and the extra £5 is a charge and not an additional amount of credit Confused
Yup no brainer think I'll cancel. I've £200+ currently sat doing nothing as I struggle to spend it also so seems daft to pay Liberty to hold on to my money.

I will miss those pretty random boxes mind but not enough to stay

pharmachameleon · 13/02/2024 15:54

I think I'm going to cancel too but I'm not sure wear to spend my £100 credit on! I wish they sold Chanel perfume.

Summerdew · 13/02/2024 15:56

Ametora · 13/02/2024 14:51

You get a £5 birthday voucher from the loyalty scheme

Oooo thank you!

CocoMascara · 13/02/2024 15:57

Sadly I think I’m out too. I’ve been a member since the beginning and I’ve loved the boxes. As others have said £60 for benefits we already have isn’t good value. I probably would have banked £25 a month with them or accepted a £2/10% fee, but it feels sneaky to claim £5 extra for services we already have. I don’t have that much saved at the moment so it’s a good time to cancel for me.

It looks like they want to end the beauty drop. There’s no other explanation for such a move

Lightenuppeople · 13/02/2024 16:02

I’m cancelling before the new charge takes place. I’ve a drawer full of stuff to use. The beauty credit is difficult to use on beauty as the stock’s levels are poor and usually more expensive. The advent calendar discount is no longer a discount with the new charges.
If anyone from Liberty reads this, I would have sucked up £5 p&p per box.

I suspect this either won’t go well for Liberty or the plan was to phase it by making it unappealing.

RokaandRoll · 13/02/2024 16:03

I've now cancelled and spent the last of my credit. I already have a drawer full of beauty box stuff I had never got round to using, or used once and disliked, or know wouldn't suit my skin.

Unlike many on here I've never actually been a huge Liberty fan anyway. I visited the London shop only once about a decade ago and, while the building itself is beautiful, I found the merchandise to be mostly "emperors new clothes" in terms of what you get for the price! I think the same about a lot of the beauty drop products - brands I'd never heard of, and with a lot of items found the quality fairly questionable. So I have been on the fence for a while with the beauty drop and this is the last straw.

Bessica · 13/02/2024 16:04

I have cancelled as I am not paying a tenner to get the next box. Now I just need to decide what to spend my credit on. I love Libertys but like others have said its always a struggle to spend the credit. Last years advent was not good so I didnt buy it.

brogueish · 13/02/2024 16:06

I wonder if rather than kill it completely, they are trying to refine their BD demographic - shed the plebs who spend ages deciding what to buy (like me!) and keep those that are more free with their spending. It definitely looks from this thread that the extra £5 will make it more exclusive, and a better fit with their brand. I don't think Liberty intend to be a retailer that caters to the masses but that's probably what they've ended up doing with the BD. For me, living too far away to pop in store, the BD has meant getting a little bit of Liberty magic delivered.

(edited for typos)

LilacpointMummy · 13/02/2024 16:07

I only joined in December so I'm devastated 😭
My plan was to save the credit for the advent calendar - as I don't have to pay the charge until may I will hang on at least until then.
How much is the advent calendar?
