Expensive premises but the staff bill must be astronomical too. Sophie Beresiner, Global Head of Content, must be on a very substantial salary. I also watched an old documentary from 2021 over Christmas and their then Creative Director, Madeleine Macey, definitely had an air of an extremely well-paid woman (I also predicted that she wasn’t that passionate about Liberty and she’d probably already moved on… and she has) 😅

I’ve noticed their Insta account likes to feature their staff, who are all terribly quirky, but in a bohemian, designer-clad way. It comes across as not very relatable to a little pleb like me. But I imagine speaks to the kind of core customer base they are really relying upon. Posh people.

I have noticed in store that some of their longer term staff seem to have gone recently. My dog had a few favourites who I haven't seen since before Christmas.

Housewife2010 · 13/02/2024 15:09

In the past I never used my £5 birthday vouchers as I don't live near the store and the postage would cancel it out. It has been handy to order low value items with no postage cost.

I’ve cancelled mine today too. I’m not happy especially as I’ve just committed to pay for a years subscriptions for my lovely DIL as a gift so will have to pay hers whatever.

WestrayWife · 13/02/2024 15:03

No hesitation from me - I'm out.
Would love to know how many people cancel over the next 24 hours - can't see this being a good move for them at all.

Yes would love to find how many cancel in the next week.

seathewayahead · 13/02/2024 15:11

Spoke too soon. When I searched for the birthday email it was there, I just didn’t see it when it arrived as it came in the early hours of January 1st!

plinter · 13/02/2024 15:13

I've just cancelled!

ObliviousCoalmine · 13/02/2024 15:13

I'm out ✌️

Bimblesalong · 13/02/2024 15:13

Darn shame. They’ll lose a lot of incidental business from this too as I happen across other things when I’m browsing to find what to spent my saved money on. I’m also less likely to buy a Liberty AC as there are others out there which attract - any remaining funds were a good incentive to get Liberty rather than another.

Jellycats4life · 13/02/2024 15:14

cancandt123 · 13/02/2024 15:10

Yes would love to find how many cancel in the next week.

They are going to haemorrhage subscribers and they were being naive if they believed they wouldn’t.

Or maybe keeping the BD small is the ultimate aim?

RokaandRoll · 13/02/2024 15:14

I'll be cancelling, such a shame 😞

TootaLaFruit · 13/02/2024 15:15

I’ve just cancelled too.
I was impressed with the idea at first and wanted to support Liberty (that first box was fabulous!), but I never loved the idea of my money being completely locked in to spend there (Naked Wines/Angels for eg. take the money monthly but you can withdraw it in full any time you want, they just keep it like a bank rather than with a commitment to spend).

During a family finances audit recently DH questioned the subscription and I explained why I wanted to keep it, but ever since I’ve been umming over whether to retain it or not.

This email, sadly, made the decision for me.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/02/2024 15:15

Ap24 · 13/02/2024 14:36

So I've just received the update email. Am I right in thinking that the £5 service fee gives us no real benefits? We were always able to spend the credit across the site, free shipping was always a thing and we often received money off the advent calendar anyway?

They can stick it. I'm not paying £60 a year to have my money locked away, especially when I can often buy the things I want like fragrances cheaper elsewhere.

Agree with you. Gutted though

Ap24 · 13/02/2024 15:17

For those wanting to get a GWP, last year's spring offering came out on the 3rd of may. It was for a £175 spend so you would receive free shipping anyway.

ferretface · 13/02/2024 15:20

I'm umming and ahhing about how longer to keep mine for, I may be one of the (few?) people who ends up staying in it for a bit longer. It prompted me to browse the website to see if I wanted to redeem my credit - there's a perfume (exclusive to Liberty) which I should have bought with their recent beauty-wide offer, it's gone back up to full price now. Doh!

Lotsofpots · 13/02/2024 15:21

I think I'm out too. I really enjoy it and have been signed up since the beginning, finding a lot of interesting new products as a result. But I'm not paying £60 for the privilege.

Such a shame as I suspect the model won't be sustainable any more.

Buster27 · 13/02/2024 15:22

Not worth it for me (although might hang on for one last box). I only joined because I'd be buying a beauty AC anyway, and had liked the look of Liberty's the previous year, so it worked out well to spread the cost while also getting freebies. I might as well just stick £20 aside each month and choose whatever beauty AC I most like the look of.

LoveLabradors · 13/02/2024 15:23

Well I’ve been a member since the inception of the Beauty Drop but that has given me the push to cancel. I have so much credit and vouchers that I am struggling to spend. Too many beauty products are constantly out of stock - I’ve wanted a Lisa Eldridge lip gloss but it’s never in so it’s pointless having £20
a month building up. I now have all the nice Liberty bargains I could ever want (silk Liberty print dressing gowns etc plus a good collection of wash bags!
I also worry about the state of Liberty finances too, when I have £200 sitting there that I’ve had nothing of interest to
spend it on it makes me a bit jittery. Liberty have endless sales now. For the past couple of years thE GWPs have been a shadow of their former selves in the main. Advent calendars too disappointing. So no, £60 for nothing is not appealing. Liberty, you are being somewhat greedy - you have large sums of our money in your coffers for sending us essentially samples. And now you want more.

UntamedShrew · 13/02/2024 15:24

Agree - the boxes are not worth £60

Also agree that I’m gutted! Thought it was a great scheme and got me spending at Liberty instead of Space NK or similar.

is it worth me waiting for next box / GWP or shall I cut my losses now..? Decisions decisions…

TheChosenTwo · 13/02/2024 15:24

It sounds like I’m the only one keeping it!
I don’t mind the extra fiver a month, happy to stay in.
The boxes are always mixed for me, don’t think I’ve ever had one that was a total hit but every one has given me at least one new thing I’d never tried and went on to buy again full sized.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 13/02/2024 15:26

I’m really torn! I love it and some of the products that we received have become firm favourites. I like trying new products but is it worth it? Would I put the money away and spend just on me if it wasn’t being ‘banked’ by Liberty? Probably not tbh.
I think I might decide after the next box although will probably try and spend some credit/vouchers before then just in case this is the beginning of the end. I will cry if Liberty ever ceases to exist and will probably go into mourning

VoleChomper · 13/02/2024 15:26

Better to spend your balance before cancelling in order to avail of the free shipping.

JustforAlice · 13/02/2024 15:26

What’s GWP?

I don’t know whether to cancel as well. Such a shame as I’ve loved the scheme.

RubyGemStone · 13/02/2024 15:27

I'd probably have stayed in for an extra £5 if that was added to credit. It becoming a sunk cost isn't OK for me, especially as I tend to buy in store so don't benefit from free shipping outside of the boxes.

ElleWoods15 · 13/02/2024 15:28

I’m out too. The boxes have massively gone down hill. I didn’t even get a couple of the bits in the last box- £15 for four samples as mine was would have been massively overpriced.

Also got both emails but I’m assuming that they’ll be upping the cost immediately as I’ve been a member since the start.

ElleWoods15 · 13/02/2024 15:30

@VoleChomper good point re spending the balance while getting free shipping!
