Shame, but yes I will be cancelling too. £60 for no extra benefit just dosn't appeal. Of course if it had always been £25 I probably wouldn't have minded but now, it's a no thank you from me.

RockaLock · 13/02/2024 14:55

I worked for Liberty many years ago and their finances were never the healthiest tbh - it's a very expensive listed building to maintain, and with just the one store there are no economies of scale.

Probably the items in the beauty boxes were supplied free of charge by the manufacturers, but there will still have been a cost in packing and shipping them. They will have been hoping for increased sales over and above the £20/month that we were all paying, but they probably haven't really achieved it. Like PPs have said, both their range of brands, and the product range available within a brand, has been patchy.

But shaky finances is one reason why I've never let my credit build up too high - if they do go under, you'll most likely lose it all.

Mystery2345 · 13/02/2024 14:55

When is the next box due?

When is the next box due?

April.

RubyGemStone · 13/02/2024 14:56

Longtime lurker on these threads and have been subscribed since BD started but will be cancelling now. I liked supporting them, pop in most weeks and probably spend a few hundred annually anyway so I suppose I saw the boxes as a reward for that loyalty (especially when I can often get things cheaper elsewhere). Certainly not worth £60 a year! The appeal has gone for me.

The advent was very disappointing in 2023 so I skipped it and they've stopped selling Maison Kurdjian in recent years. They'll have to compete with other retailers for my money from now on.

ObliviousCoalmine · 13/02/2024 14:56

When is the next drop?

I'll cancel, it's not worth £60 a year while having my money ring-fenced. I just can't decide if I want to cancel now or after the next drop.

ObliviousCoalmine · 13/02/2024 14:57

@Ap24 cross post, sorry!

CornishPorsche · 13/02/2024 14:57

Oh 😔. £60/year for a bunch of freebies is not OK. If it were £5/box to cover the cost of the card board box and shipping I'd have absolutely no issue with that, but £5 every month is a piss take.

I'll hang in for the next box I think then I'm out.

I may start to put £20 away each month for fancy jewellery treats instead, as that's what I've spent most of my credit on!

MotherofTerriers · 13/02/2024 15:00

I think I'll wait for the next box and then cancel. It's not really worth £60 a year and other retailers - cult beauty and space NK - often have the same products at lower prices

paristotokyo · 13/02/2024 15:00

I've recieved my email also. As I subscribed end of last year, I'm still in the first 3 months so they will be implementing the £25 change from May. But to be honest, will wait for April's beauty drop and then cancel. Don't think the 'extra benefits' are really benefits at all.

Pinenu · 13/02/2024 15:01

Oh dear, this is a shame.

I’ve enjoyed the drop boxes and bought some lovely things with the credit but it was already a stretch so can’t justify an extra £5 pm.

safetyzone · 13/02/2024 15:01

FWIW I'm also cancelling - I've been reviewing my finances this month and the emails are the final push for me to do so. I normally save the credits for nice candles but it's not worth an extra £60 a year for that.

WestrayWife · 13/02/2024 15:03

No hesitation from me - I'm out.
Would love to know how many people cancel over the next 24 hours - can't see this being a good move for them at all.

Countmeout · 13/02/2024 15:03

That’s me out too. Just deciding when to go. I would like another GWP, anyone know when that’s likely to happen.

Mystery2345 · 13/02/2024 15:04

I will also be cancelling, just not worth it. I don’t believe the boxes are worth the hundreds of pounds they suggest (appreciate it’s based on full size products / weight etc) but not enough of interest to me to continue.

Back21970 · 13/02/2024 15:05

I’m undecided, agree that £5 per box would have gone down a lot better than £5 a month.

I do like saving my money for a guilt free spree on brands that are harder to get and I use Dermalogica which they always have in stock.

I’ll probably keep going till the end of this year and see how the perks and boxes go.

Is the birthday £5 voucher a new thing, I don’t recall it last year?

SoloCat · 13/02/2024 15:05

I’ll cancel mine after the next box. I was saving my credit for something more expensive. Very disappointing 😕
I agree that £5 per box would have been doable, but not £15!

omnishambles · 13/02/2024 15:05

Just cancelled mine, not sure what to do with the credit!

No, they’ve always done it. One year they also did gifts, I had a lovely lavender body moisturiser from their own line.

Housewife2010 · 13/02/2024 15:06

This is such a shame. I've been with them since the first box. The only extra they are offering is the 10% off beauty boxes, but they sometimes offered £10 off on the first day. I bought last summer's Scent Edit with £10 off. The drop boxes are nice, but I don't know if they are worth £15 to me.
I like having money in my Liberty account, but apart from the boxes I rarely spend it on beauty.
Latest in Beauty and Sephora are stopping their monthly boxes too.

Expensive premises but the staff bill must be astronomical too. Sophie Beresiner, Global Head of Content, must be on a very substantial salary. I also watched an old documentary from 2021 over Christmas and their then Creative Director, Madeleine Macey, definitely had an air of an extremely well-paid woman (I also predicted that she wasn’t that passionate about Liberty and she’d probably already moved on… and she has) 😅

I’ve noticed their Insta account likes to feature their staff, who are all terribly quirky, but in a bohemian, designer-clad way. It comes across as not very relatable to a little pleb like me. But I imagine speaks to the kind of core customer base they are really relying upon. Posh people.

seathewayahead · 13/02/2024 15:07

now that my bank offers a saving space it’s super easy to just put £20 into that each month and then use wherever is in stock / a good deal. I’m not paying £15 per box for any old shit they’re trying to shift!

seathewayahead · 13/02/2024 15:08

I think they stopped the birthday vouchers too. Mine was recently and I didn’t get one

Ap24 · 13/02/2024 15:08

Jellycats4life · 13/02/2024 14:45

Yes, they were all benefits we had before, so it’s a bit rich of them to paint this as a new benefit, as if to lessen the blow of this service charge.

I’m torn. I know retail is struggling. I would hate for Liberty to go under (considering how the likes of John Lewis are making massive losses year on year, I can’t see how Liberty is faring much better). I do understand that they need to recoup some of the money they lose in free product and free shipping… but do I really want the Beauty Drop at a 25% price increase?

The scheme as it was was almost too good to be true - albeit forcing you to spend money with them when you could perhaps have found the same thing cheaper elsewhere.

I’m bummed. I understand why they’ve had to do it but it’s made an affordable luxury feel more like an expensive indulgence.

Thank you. I think that's the most annoying part, they've tried to make it sound like we are receiving something new but actually there aren't any additional benefits to me.

I do love the boxes, it gets me trying things that I would never normally look at. It's not so great for my bank balance but enjoyable. But I end up giving a significant amount away, mainly due to products being for certain hair or skin types.

I think once I factor in how much I spend on full price items that I could get cheaper elsewhere it really drives home the true cost. It's not just the £15 a box but the fact that the items I end up spending my credit on are often significantly more expensive than I could get them elsewhere.

I also would hate for them to go under but I live so far away that I don't go into the store. The website is also pretty terrible.

Just cancelled. I'm gutted as I loved it
