Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

@Floisme ya! Is there a new section for advent calendars?

They were all over, and then...

Fini!

MmePoppySeedDefage · 02/12/2023 06:58

Talking of advent calendars, this spoke to me:

botemp · 02/12/2023 07:26

A tank top Shock I haven't lost my religion quite yet Flo...

I love that little poem Poppy, I always had a chocolate one but at my grandparents' there was a traditional one with pictures. I was very Confused by it.

Ooh, I hid all the advent calendars preemptively as they always clog up the board, I'll be quite annoyed if I did that all for nothing and it got moved to a separate board.

I had a duffle coat, I adored it, then my father accidentally left it on top of the dryer and then it got set on fire as the vibration (probably from the washing machine beside it) moved it to the back of the dryer. I'm still upset about the loss of it 😭

Happy December to all!

Most un-generously I try never to mention your cardigan brand, @botemp! I love them so much, and inevitably the things I’m most smitten with seem to sell out in the blink of an eye. Although it’s perhaps the styling even more than the individual garments that tends to make me think hard about what I already own.

I’m realising I’ve wanted a duffle coat for my entire life - and never owned one. Perhaps it’s time …

Redandblue11 · 02/12/2023 09:25

Sincere condolences for the duffle coat bo.
and I will go off and research that cardigan brand …

Such a joyous day 2 photo. That tone of red in the 2 dresses is so difficult to find, and how cool is that ‘scarf’ on the jacket, which obvs doesn’t serve a scarf purpose, other than decorative, which on second thoughts that is what some wraps etc are?

Breaking news - I am in possession of The leather skirt. The lady was so kind to let me pay her in two parts with no interest .

Floisme · 02/12/2023 09:39

Oh congratulations Red! I couldn't sleep last night and I wiled away the time thinking of all the outfits I could make with that skirt (it went with everything). Very good decision.

And now I've forgotten what I was actually going to post Blush I'll be back when I've remembered.

yogibutton · 02/12/2023 09:51

Morning all! Enjoying bo's calendar photos. As to the simple observation of colour, a search for red jumper gives one 40 items on a platform like matches, whereas beige or whatever is always around 500. Flamey red is so beautiful and rare. And the scribbles, lines and tassels are like encoding secrets in clothes.

Missing lots of chat, to the main news: boots arrived. They are perfect. I was wondering what kind of genius could design those but of course mm revealed the secret as ever in the functional older clothes. Of course, gaiters! Mine are quite gaiter-y intricate construction - there is an elastic under the sole - and internal buttons to fasten the gaiter to the boot. Pics for your delectation.

In terms of the boot construction, the sole bends, which is a must for a healthy foot, and the leather is thick and yet gives in to the shape of the foot. I am very impressed. Obviously, the weak part is the zip and however long it will hold (it is double stitched in, very nice) but I hope a high-end cobbler will be able to replace it. It is quite narrow, fits my thin calf tightly (rarity) and tall. I was worried it would look bulky but it doesn't. I think poppy was right about women's shoe shapes after all, women's 41 rules.

yogibutton · 02/12/2023 09:53

congratulations to red for the skirt and bo for the cardigan. I tried a similar looking one (from colville) recently but it was thicker and more tightly fitted and didn't look nice enough. The oversized flowing shape works much better.

CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 02/12/2023 10:06

Filled with awe over leather skirt and gaiter boot acquisitions. Both such glorious things.

Was it hat-related, @Floisme ?

botemp · 02/12/2023 10:07

Ooh I did wonder how it was kept in place, if I ever decide to DIY it I'll use your photos as inspiration. Glad to know they come up really tall, my FOMO about those boots is over then...

Crkd, I only feel okay about disclosing this link because its still such a small ethical Spanish textile project (yeah I'm a bit 🧐 about that descriptor too but I think the Spanish government grants subsidies to collective art projects like that so they have to keep calling themselves that) as they probably either don't ship to the UK or it would be a non starter with taxes and returns. I was more drawn to their summer stuff though. I've noticed the Cordera site seems to be shrugging off its artisanal Spanish style in favour of a more mainstream one that seems to be zoning in on the Asian market.

Yay on the skirt Red, now where are you wearing it to?

Those are splendidly noble pieces, @botemp! I’ll add them to my list of future gift sources, as it’s almost certainly too late for anything to be made and delivered for Christmas - assuming they do deliver here.

(I am such a sucker for this type of marketing ... Grin)

Floisme · 02/12/2023 10:29

I've remembered! Not hat related Crkd but I was going to finish my duffle coat story (and it also ties in with bo's latest photo). So I spent my childhood kicking off about having to wear a duffle, but then my first winter away from home, at uni, I fell in love with a red one in (I think) Chelsea Girl and bought it. Amused my parents no end.

Also loving the boots and gaiters chat.

Floisme · 02/12/2023 10:32

And sorry Galiana I don't know if the Advent calendar threads have moved. In fact they seem to be back now so it must just have been a blip last night that they all fell off the first page together. Or something.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 02/12/2023 11:23

I had a red duffel coat in my first year at university.

I was all 1950s student style that year. Then the duffel went threadbare (Weatherall one too) so I got my money back and relaunched my style as if I were a Posh Person, following the true Posh Persons' style that I had observed (I had a lovely pair of heeled moccasins, my first really good shoes). That lasted a year, as in my last year I went all alternative and wore a pair of painter's dungarees and ate beans. Then I started training as a chartered accountant, and dressed accordingly.

Ooh the boots and gaiters are gorgeous.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 02/12/2023 11:24

And congratulations on the lovely skirt, red. A very wise move.

Papyrophile · 02/12/2023 13:14

Harrumph! I am Desmond, so not a stranger. I forgot to change it for the first post on the new thread... take pity on a poor confused old biddy!

Well done on the skirt red. Lovely cardi bo.

Redandblue11 · 02/12/2023 14:01

Tell me flo how you would wear it, give me some inspiration!
the skirt is from vince although from a previous collection.
I might also have my piece of art 🙃
That is me done for Xmas.
I have a new job so this was my present to myself. My new job will be taking me to Elle s land every so often.

Micro and Desmond - can you stop confusing me with all that name changing

mm47 · 02/12/2023 15:18

Hurrah for yogi and red’s stellar purchases working out so well.

I love the hair accessory in bo’s picture today and am wondering how to emulate it. Perhaps a mini slinky would do the job?

Bit of a traumatic way to lose a duffel coat - going up in flames! I love flo’s change of heart about duffel coats but a red one that you’ve chosen for yourself sounds a lot more fun than the very dark, heavy and stiff navy ones doled out in our childhoods. And poppy sounds like you had a lot of fun trying out different looks at university. I have a lovely cream duffel coat but have only worn it once, years ago - wearing it with cream trousers/sweater and converse I felt more like a polar bear than a polar explorer, perhaps not ideal for a grey day in London🤡!

Sorry Paphyrus/Desmond hadn’t realised you’d name changed.

and thank you bo for the workersnobility link - love the wool fur jacket. I’m not sure if that’s their translation for sheepskin or whether they have found a way to make fur out of wool (in which case what a brilliant idea!)

MmePoppySeedDefage · 02/12/2023 18:56

Heh at the polar bear idea mm. I still can't get my brain around wearing all white or cream, for that reason.

I've just been harrumphing at MrPSD at the poor quality of this cardigan that Collagerie linked to:

https://www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/bode/clothing/cardigans/oslo-fair-isle-intarsia-wool-cardigan/1647597311258991

Admittedly, I am used to "Ravelry" where you get proper stranded colourwork, worked in the round, but the mismatch of the pattern at the shoulders on this cardigan that costs £925 is dreadful. Compare with this, properly matched on the shoulders. because it's worked in the round (& they could have done that with the Bode cardigan if they'd bothered)

Love the top middle image. The top part of the dress works like a supremely elegant tank top 😈 draws attention to and gives similar upper body definition (might be stretching the point for wind-up purposes as I am a fan of ye olde tank top). 😱😘

mm47 · 03/12/2023 09:33

bo you posted earlier about musical chairs. Agree about how Matthew Williamson was an interesting choice for Givenchy (not) but wondering who you would prefer to take his place?
