Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

Thanks both and what's better is I bought it in an actual, independent shop. Frontiers has weathered several storms over the years but seems to be doing well.
Frontiers

Epitome has a Cawley Studio dress on sale- it's beautiful but much as I favour the idea of " if you buy it, you can create an occasion to wear it" I would struggle with this. They also had a Sofie D’Hoore raincoat at an astonishing reduction but I couldn't justify another coat.
Epitome

I'm sure Dicks will have a brilliant sale but I daren't go in.

I like the shape of those pillar skirts although they're probably not for me. This is why I miss good shops - I'm never going to go to the trouble of sending for one and retuning it but, if I saw one, I'd try it just for fun, and who knows maybe if I did...strange things can happen sometimes.

Speaking of strange, what the actual fuck, France? What were you smoking?
And bo and Galiana, I was at home all evening, Your Honours, and so was my husband.

@Galiana I'm assuming the swimsuit is 100% synthetic / technical fabric? If yes then, as bo says, the only recourse I know of is Rit, who produce some dyes for synthetics. I tried it once and, to be honest, wasn't that impressed with the result and even worse, it took 4 washes on empty to get rid of all the residue in the machine. (By comparison, with Dylon dyes I find one empty wash plus a wipe down of the door and rubber seal is all it takes.) Maybe I was just unlucky but it makes me wary of trying Rit again. If there's any cotton or viscose in it then you might get some kind of reduced result with Dylon but if the cotton / viscose is localised then any dyeing will be too, if that makes sense?

botemp · 28/07/2024 11:56

I've not used Rit myself but what I've seen of it, it seems to work best in a smallish container and left to soak for several hours. It doesn't seem particularly suited as a machine dye. I'd be a bit wary of dyeing an Eres swimsuit though as much of the added value is in the way the elastic functions in the fabric and dyeing usually calls for high temps, I'd give it a shot in a like warm bath first (using boiling water, just not adding the suit to the bath until it's down to a suitable temp).

Came across this A-line midi skirt, Galiana it's horribly photoshopped on the model and I suspect overlit so a little deeper in colour and not much of a bargain but the leather does look awfully lush.

Having your husband as your only alibi is a little suspect, Flo. I think we're going to need to assess those gloves of yours, do they fit 🧐

OP posts:
yesmen · 29/07/2024 20:39

That A line is lush indeed @botemp

I love the shirt the model is wearing also - that is a great collar for my face.

Galiana · 29/07/2024 21:32

Thanks @botemp & @Floisme, I already have the have the Rit dye, I bought it after some research but as @botemp says, was wary of the high temps involved.

Here's a photo of the bleaching and the fabric.

I went for a navy dye and it's probably worth a go because it's unwearable otherwise. Sad I'll lose the contrast, if anyone sees one anywhere, let me know!

(I'm not talking about your blue hands @Floisme. That's between you and the IOC).

Galiana · 29/07/2024 21:35

Potential good skirt @botemp, that's the style I'm hankering after.

Redandblue11 · 30/07/2024 18:07

Galiana from what I can see of that lovely swimsuit… I would say you have a good excuse to search for a new favourite.

More Olympics fashion, was reading about Florence Griffith Joyner (Flo Jo), fastest and most fashionable woman on the track here
I love the lace number and the Seoul 88 outfit.

Another Flo alter ego 🧐

Thanks for the article Red, very enjoyable. I think they covered it up at the opening ceremony because how else could I have missed the Mongolian teams outfits, I'm bowled over by them.

Ah yes, the Flo Jo days - good times (well apart from the drug allegations and my pesky untimely death!).

To be honest, the Olympics are just giving me the rage now but I'll say nothing further in case the IOC come after us all. So I will soothe myself by looking at all the great outfits and Flo Jo's nail art - thanks all.

Redandblue11 · 31/07/2024 11:23

Yes those Mongolian outfits are something else. I never thought I would pay attention to outfits either at the Olympics.

I admit to be a real sucker for all types of competitions when the whole world comes … football, Winter Olympics, summer ones. Rest of the year I am not interested, but these big events really get my attention.
and yes there are very dubious all the ways these things get organised etc etc

banivani · 31/07/2024 14:29

Castle, congratulations on finding a shirt that helps you wear otherwise unwearable skirts!!! That’s the ticket.

Love the Olympic outfit article and the Mongolian outfits are great, I saw them on the boats but it was a bit hard to see properly. I love btw how the French are utterly convinced the opening ceremony was just this huge triumph haha! Magnifique! Let us rejoice in our differences.

Have just landed in Ireland for a week’s holiday. Am wearing a pair of H&M jeans I just bought with a barrel shape. V pleased with them but not so pleased about them being H&M. Am counting on Ireland being more jeans and less wafty linen.

botemp · 01/08/2024 09:38

Well at least your country occasionally takes home some of the big big titles Red, I think NL only does well during the winter Olympics and no one seems to really care about those (bar some authoritarians Hmm). Not mentioned in the previous article but South Korea's Kim Yeji deserves a shout out too for not just the outfit but the whole embodiment of it.

Flo, I hadn't taken you for someone getting all offended over a last supper depiction that wasn't the last supper... (I'm assuming there's some FWR beef with the Olympics that I've missed, or is it the volleyball player?).

Don't believe the French bluster Bani, they're just as befuddled as the rest of us. French media has done a good job of filling in some context holes (my favourite, Aya Nakamura came out of the Academie Française which is where curmudgeon linguists finger wag at artists and other rappers like her for changing the language Confused Not sure how you become a linguist and pretend language doesn't evolve) but my main issue was with pacing and terrible dragging speeches. I'll accept some acts had to be altered/cancelled due to the rain which resulted in the never ending runway but I've got tinfoil hat theories that sponsors made some parts way too long, the horse was sponsored by Sanofi pharmaceuticals, I suppose they got their money's worth. Whenever there was a checkerboard design it was with the Louis Vuitton logo (they're really pushing that Damier pattern since the Pharrell Williams appointment) and the cameras would linger way longer than necessary, although I doubt many caught the LV logo. Props to those dancers on the wet barge though, they had a stamina that I'll never replicate.

No it wasn't the last supper that wasn't bo (although the kindest, most positive and inclusive thing I can say about drag is that it bores me senseless). But now I'm going to keep my big mouth uncharacteristically shut.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 01/08/2024 13:18

You and me both Flo...

Floisme · 02/08/2024 09:00

Ooh thanks time, I don't think I've come across them. Their boat neck 3/4 sleeve might work for me - and a choice of colours beyond black, white and navy too!
I got as far as completing the 'magic fit' info but then baulked when wanted an email address to send the results to. Has anyone used them?

botemp · 02/08/2024 09:19

In theory something like that sounds ideal but the sheer amount of choices and it all being made on demand (therefore no returns) would mean I'd never actually end up putting in an order (ignoring the whole being based in Australia bit as that instantly disqualifies it). If it they had a shop/showroom where they'd advice you on fit then they'd definitely have a customer in me but I suspect the whole business model only works with AI and online.

OP posts:
Floisme · 02/08/2024 09:21

Ha! I was so excited at all the colours I didn't notice it was Australia, never mind no returns Shock

timeisnotaline · 02/08/2024 15:35

they predate ai being in everything, so I don’t know that the business model only works on ai. Perhaps at this pricing, I can’t remember if it used to be more, but it’s always felt moderate. They are Australia based, that is true😁😁 I wonder if their returns are much lower since it’s custom fit? Or not allowed as it’s a ‘custom item’? In which case it doesn’t matter where you are…

botemp · 02/08/2024 16:47

I don't see any information about returns so I assume there are none? Suppose checking the equivalent of Australian Vinted will reveal how accurate these magic fits are? How long have they heen around as AI has been around a lot longer than most people think (I briefly considered doing a degree in it where it was combined with physical design and I'm entering my positively ancient era)? I sort of assume it's a very basic algorithm whereby it's not actually that many variables but enough to have someone think they're getting something custom made. I'm just somewhat stuck on the idea of them having no stock and making a custom item per order, that just seems very counter to conventional production methods which usually equals ridiculously high individual prices.

There's a start-up in Amsterdam (I think, they might actually be in another city) that wants to do something similar with 3D knitting whereby you can 'print' out custom designs but they're also open to other companies coming in and working with them on other projects. I know an urban landscape designer who is working with them on some sort of fencing in biobased materials. But they happily allow in students as well if it's an interesting enough project.

Anyhow, for basics with a few colour options but without the fit customisation I still think Teym has some good options, they seem to be expanding to more markets. I am biased though as they have a shop locally so I don't need to guess at fit and sizing. Sadly the burgundy sandals were lovely and everything I'd want from a Birkenstock-esque shoe except too wide for my feet Sad

I also have those Teym tops on my list. Next time I need some I really need to remember!

Well, I seem to have followed the Dutch everywhere Bo and saw them wining at several sports , admittedly not the top ones but still. Everywhere I turn I see a bit of orange. I am leaving Paris and have to say, never seen it so well organised and friendly, I was very impressed.

botemp · 06/08/2024 19:43

Ha, I'd apologise for the cringe that is the Orange fans but I get the sense most non Dutch find it fun 🤷 Yeah, for a small country we've been doing pretty well, I take back my words we don't ever win anything.

I'm Shock to hear it's all well organised, I'd assumed it would be a bit more <ahem> French...

I do love to see the Dutch out in the world @botemp. They are always giant though!
