Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset and lots of chatter in between.

Ok, I've got a hairdressing appointment next week and I'm not sure whether to do a fringe again. Opinions would be good!

Hmm, I do like a fringe @Galiana but I've always thought they must be high maintenance and an absolute bugger to grow out if you get bored. Have you had one before?.

botemp · 09/08/2024 10:00

I'm team no fringe, you've got such strong bone structure I feel a fringe would soften that in a half hearted way. A long layered one could work but at that point I don't really consider it a fringe anymore.

If you're in the mood for change, assuming the salon has a good colourist you could consider a little money piece (but I stress good because 95% of money pieces are horrible blocky things, as opposed to a nice natural blended one that only betrays its not natural because of the high level of contrast).

I have had one before @Floisme, hang a mo'

Was 15 years ago when I was still brunette.

Money-piece @botemp, I'm interested, what do you suggest?

I think I like the steel grey. I do think it suits me more than dark brunette ever did. It's just big and I feel the urge for change.

Also @botemp I'm not sure it will take colour.

Are you suggesting an anti-Daphne Guinness? Big dark stripe?

Galiana · 09/08/2024 19:10

I've had a buzz-cut, and under-cut, a mowhawk.

I'm not scared of mucking about with my hair.

I quite like it now.

I'm having an urge!!

botemp · 09/08/2024 19:19

No, no dark stripe, just a narrow band of lightened colour, so bleach and then some toner (probably, I am not a colourist). It sort of frames the face and brings light to it without face framing layers.

Sort of like attached. Blonde image is more for band width reference where it almost peeps out from under the hair. I'd ask for a soft version although the sharper versions work well with a sharper cut. The wider versions can look good with ballayage/more highlights (third pic) but on its own I feel the contrast is a bit much but a colourist will know better than me what would suit you best.

Ohh @botemp, that's a very good idea.

I'm quite taken.

I get a cut once a year (last year was in Paris at a Botemp salon). It grew beautifully. 🇫🇷🥖😊

Next week it will be in Nantes! To fringe or not to fringe…

You have an excellent forehead with strong beautiful eyes.

So you could probably take a fringe but am not sure you should “hide” that nice forehead?

banivani · 10/08/2024 15:15

Nobody ever recommends fringes, it’s a pure wonder they survive. ;) I have no opinions, I’d say you’d look good in it though so fuel on the fire on my part :)

botemp · 11/08/2024 09:54

Well I have to confess that I assume there's a 'some twat advised me to get the worst fringe ever' subreddit or Facebook group out there full of Daily Mail sad faces and I don't really want to give those people the ammunition to make a burning effigy of me 🔥🫥 🔥 🫥🔥

I dunno, they're risky and the default thought for those who want some sort of change. But if you don't like it, it's right there with the whole sensorial aspect of them if you're new to one and <prepares to be turned into a burning effigy> they feel a bit stuck in the 2010s. Some fringes really suit people but there was definitely a period where everyone and their dog had one.

I technically have a fringe

(Btw, &Other Stories sent me a rusty reds newsletter, promising things in your colour of choice in the new one, Bani, but no trousers Hmm)

On the basis of that photo I say no fringe @Galiana You look much more striking now, although that might be down to the grey hair. I like the dark stripy thing though.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/08/2024 12:15

No fringe. I have s fringe, - have had since 18.

I don't like photos of me without a fringe.

banivani · 11/08/2024 12:34

Other stories trousers are for thin people so that’s ok ;)
