New thread, thanks for the brilliant title suggestion, as ever!

I think Kate looked very stylish this evening. I know we're all a bit bored of the Lover's Knot, but she looked very glamorous and I like the colour of that dress on her too.

MotherofPearl · 05/12/2023 23:27

I see Philippe and Mathilde are in Germany and have attended a state dinner at the Presidential Palace.

I think Mathilde looks sensational and she seems to be wearing the beautiful meander bandeau base of the Nine Provinces tiara. I love her velvet dress. German First Lady Elke Bundenbender's dress is certainly dramatic! I love the colour, but the style reminds me a little of Fergie's notorious 'duvet dress' from the 80s.

I do love velvet and it's a gorgeous Christmassy colour but know what you mean about echoes of the '80's dress.

user1471519902 · 06/12/2023 06:56

Gorgeous dress on Kate, but too long. I would be terrified of catching the pointy toe in the hem.
I wonder what perfume she wears. I think she looks lovely. Does she say goodnight to the kids dressed up and they all say Mummy you look like a princess!!

It'll soon be time to start another thread!
Title suggestions, please 😊

I think Kate looks lovely. I think she uses a make up artist now for big occasions. Looks like Camilla has been having a good old rummage in the vaults!!

Sidebeforeself · 06/12/2023 08:04

I’m fairly new to this so you might have had this or similar before before but “ Deck the Royals ! Let’s see boughs of holly green emeralds and robin red rubies!”

Eaumyword · 06/12/2023 08:11

Love that @Sidebeforeself!

Imagine coming home from a night out, exhausted and just wanting to fall into bed, it must be as much of an effort getting out of the clothes as getting ready, no hope of stepping out of the dress and flinging it over the back of a chair, or leaving the jewellery on the dressing table until you get around to returning it to their correct boxes and safe the next day. It would put me of ever going out😀

It they're kept in London she has to hand them back before going home to Windsor unless someone waits at Windsor to remove them to safety at the castle.

Houseplanter · 06/12/2023 08:26

I've often wondered where the jewellery is actually kept. Surely not all in the same place?
I'd imagined they'd select pieces way in advance and it would be someone's job to make sure they were delivered and collected.
All the residences must have a safe I'd have thought. Can't really imagine Kate leaving her engagement on the bathroom shelf either.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 06/12/2023 11:30

I thought Kate looked wonderful. Beautiful dress in a beautiful colour, lots of sparkle and glamour, what's not to love! It was always going to be the Lover's knot as she wore the Lotus Flower last year and she wouldn't wear the Strathmore Rose again so quickly. I loved all her jewellery, that brooch is very nice, and the tiara is lovely even if we have seen it a lot.

I really loved seeing HMQ wearing the 'new' stomacher! Fabulous. She is leaning into the jewellery very well, and I'm here for it! More please!

whiteshutters · 06/12/2023 11:48

@Houseplanter you know I was actually thinking about this last night. Do they get a tiara catalogue out and choose or is there a walk in wardrobe where you go in and choose 😂

whiteshutters · 06/12/2023 11:49

I would say the Lover's Knot trumps a bracelet 😆

I’d imagine it’s pretty much exactly like the Princess Diaries II, but better organisation- like Cher in Clueless

Houseplanter · 06/12/2023 12:22

Somebody in the palace must know exactly what jewels are still intact and available should someone want to wear them. I would assume the late Queen knew, but there must be a member of staff whose job it is to know and to also know where they are.

I'd love to think Camilla, Kate and Sophie have a good old rummage and try on presentation by someone and they choose over a few drinks.

When I was browsing about tiaras yesterday I saw the one that Eugenie wore at her wedding was the one that Meghan wanted as in "what Meghan wants Meghan gets" except she didn't. Is this correct? I actually prefer the one worn by Meghan but I'm not a coloured stone gal.

Princess Eugenie's Wedding Tiara Was Surprisingly Similar to Meghan Markle's

Houseplanter · 06/12/2023 12:42

I'm forgetting of course that some of these tiaras belonged to the late Queen and would have be bequeathed to individuals and therefore might not be in the Jewellery For Big Occasions Cupboard, but their new owners own stash.

ChimneyPot · 06/12/2023 13:10

Would the late Queen have bequeathed tiaras to individuals?
I suspect she was far more likely to lend them or make them available for wear.
Wouldn’t want them lost in a divorce or being passed down what will be a minor line.

I don’t think she could without some IHT being paid - so they’re probably mostly with the sovereign and lent out. That’s a guess but some used to have their own - Princess Margaret’s lovely in-the-bath tiara had to be sold rather sadly. I suppose it’s technically not useful but I’d have been gutted to have to sell it.

EtiennePalmiere · 06/12/2023 13:32

I loved Megan's tiara, the emerald one would have been too much with the veil.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 06/12/2023 13:38

I think there was some speculation (or was it straight from the horse's mouth? 🤔) that Meghan had originally been offered to wear the Spencer tiara, which was why her veil was designed with the scalloped edges. But then the late Queen offered her the opportunity to borrow one of the royal tiaras.

I really liked the one she ended up wearing. I think she looked beautiful wearing it.

gluenotsoup · 06/12/2023 13:53

Mathilde looks fab there! The neckline and necklace sit together really nicely.
Loved Kate’s rewear of the rose gold dress, I don’t think it is too long when you see other photos, might be a bad moment on one photo. I’m not keen though on the stomacher it looks like a plonked on afterthought.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 06/12/2023 14:24

I think the stomacher should've been placed slightly lower, would've looked better.

It used to be Angela Kelly didn’t it. Not sure who does it now though.

Serenster · 06/12/2023 15:34

Since we were told that the stomachers Camilla wore last night came from Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, rather than Queen Mary, and since she was never seen wearing it publicly (stomachers having rather gone out of fashion by the 1920s, given the changing dress styles) there’s been some speculation that this was yet another treasure from the Greville bequest that the Queen Mother received. How amazing if so!

(I feel like echoing Queen Mary’s own words in a letter to her daughter in law about it - I’m not really jealous, but I’ve just never had such luck! 🤣)
