New thread, thanks for the brilliant title suggestion, as ever!

Exactly @SenecaFallsRedux I really think it spoiled the whole thing - that padding support for the shoulders was very obvious and distracting.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/12/2023 05:47

I like Leti's heels. Kitten heels are having a moment here in the US, and as they are the only heels I can wear anymore, it's a trend I'm happy to embrace. However, I agree that they don't quite go with the rest of the ensemble, especially the jacket.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 01/12/2023 05:49

I can't wear my high high heels anymore either 😔 Still okay with a mid heel but I'm considering switching over to flats.

Just not sure I'm quite there yet. So maybe I should embrace the apologetic heel trend!

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 01/12/2023 05:50

(I mean I can, but I don't want to!)

I think she looks fantastic - it's a dramatic silhouette, and she carries it off well. I think she looks elegant and dignified and very stylish. I'm sure she'd much rather not be out and about smiling, but there she is.

I agree 💯 @Maireas

Star trek look is spot on. Can't make up my mind coz I'm a Trekkie 😂

Camilla looked lovely last night.

The shoulder pads totally ruin it for me, they are dreadful. I would have loved it otherwise 🤷🏻‍♀️

Late to the RVP chat but I completely agree with this. The original dress as posted upthread is far nicer. I also really don't like Kate's hair atm. It's too long and those curtain bangs are awful.

I like Letizia's heels too. She has problems with her feet - chronic metatarsalgia and Morton's neuroma. It's the mayor reason why we are seeing her more and more in kitten heels or flats.

I also agree. The shoulder pads kill the dress. The original without them is much nicer.

Ouch bless her. You won't see me in heels now because of my spinal problems. I do miss them

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 01/12/2023 15:31

Oh my goodness, fair enough! No more heels for you Leti, flats it is!!

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/12/2023 15:45

Morton's neuroma

I didn't know that. One of my issues as well. Full sympathies to Leti.

For those who don't know, it's a condition that (for me at least) constantly sends pain signals to the brain, which are often sharp and burning when walking. I had surgery which fully alleviated the pain, but I'm at risk for it developing in the other foot, so I have to be very careful with my footwear choices.

EtiennePalmiere · 01/12/2023 15:46

I seem to remember Leti wearing some really nice loafers recently, she should have gone with those. That jacket is great, she definitely has always been best-dressed royal to me.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/12/2023 15:47

Just to add, I used to be a shoe person: it was Morton's that caused me to shift to being a handbag person. Speaking of which, although I was not fond of Kate's dress, I loved the little clutch she carried for the evening.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 01/12/2023 16:06

I suffered with severe and chronic plantar fasciitis for 6+ years, many years ago now, thank goodness. It's awful having foot problems, so painful and impacts on everything - you just can't give your feet complete rest!

So as much as I do love beautiful shoes I always prioritise wellbeing over looks. And there are lots of beautiful low/flat shoes too.

Eaumyword · 01/12/2023 16:15

I appreciate the royals can't necessarily follow suit, but as a fellow foot/toe pain sufferer, I just love to be able to wear clumpy DM boots with everything from dresses to trousers.

ChicoryDip · 01/12/2023 16:26

Great pictures of the Norwegian Royal family to celebrate Prince Sverre Magnus' 18th birthday.

It always makes me wish that we had a national dress for the British Royal Family to pose in.

Incogg · 01/12/2023 16:33

In the Norwegian dress, is the black vs white skirt significant? Without being familiar with these women I’m guessing married vs unmarried.

(Discussing the cost of my Vivo barefoot shoes today with a teenager she remarked how expensive they were for such ugly shoes. She was not at all impressed with me extolling their virtues).

CliffsofMohair · 01/12/2023 16:39

I assumed Sverre Magnus was a lot younger than Prince Christian of Denmark.
I obviously spend way too much time thinking about Scandi royal families.

justasking111 · 01/12/2023 16:44

Still can't find a decent picture of Victoria at the royal variety performance. Black doesn't photograph well in poor light at night.

I'm not sure it is a black shirt - I think he is wearing the higher neckline style of waistcoat - there is a tiny bit of white shirt visible between the high neck of the waistcoat and the cravat.

If Norway is like Sweden every town (and sometimes village) has it's own traditional folk costume colours and style. You can choose which one to wear depending on where you were born or where you live (or sometimes where your great grandmother lived if it is an inherited costume).

Royals are often gifted handmade costumes in Sweden from the Local Communities that they represent through Dukedom/Earl titles. So sometimes the Swedish Royals wear the national costume in yellow and blue and sometimes they choose a local one.

I can't find a good full length picture either - there is a close up on a Swedish site that shows that the dress is a sort of fluffy/fake fur-like material - which is perhaps not the most flattering look.

But I think she should have worn a stonking collection of diamonds with it.
