New thread, thanks for the brilliant title suggestion, as ever!

@Serenster thank you for the explanation. Imagine having to wear two of them if Charles was to hand out another one.

Kate looks fabulous tonight. Not quite sure about the gloves but assume it is protocol plus probs avoids the urge to hand sanitise from much hand shaking!😂
Leti looks absolutely incredible. So love that dress on her.
Cams looks fabulous in that lovely red.
Not keen on Soph's look.

gluenotsoup · 21/11/2023 22:45

Ohhh! Thanks @KillingMeDeftly, that makes sense now. I need to pay more attention in future 😆

Is the Strathmore tiara made of silver? There's so few pictures I can't even tell if it has any gems. There's no sparkle

No, it’s gold

Poor Princess Margaret ended up with four! Her Grandfather, Father, and Sister were all Monarch and all gave her their family orders, plus she had one for one of her orders! I somehow imagine Margaret quite liked getting to wear them all, though…

Brigitte was in pale blue this evening.

And I have no idea who this is with William but what is she wearing?? It's like a cross between milkmaid and Madonna c1985!

I'd like to know too. Saw her on the news and was a bit ConfusedConfusedConfused at the dress.

whiteshutters · 21/11/2023 23:14

These occasions are not really about fashion statements though, are they? It's about wearing something that adheres to protocol and can accommodate all the extras.

KillingMeDeftly · 21/11/2023 21:59

This can't be right? Three layers? It wasn't that cold today!

This is bizarre. So she wore the coatdress unbuttoned as a coat, with the cape over it? And the shift dress as an under layer? So odd. I just don't get the thinking behind this.

MotherofPearl · 21/11/2023 23:16

That is an abomination.

Thank you. Gosh it's so pretty. 💗

Isn't it Crown Princess Mette Marit? Norwegian.

KillingMeDeftly · 21/11/2023 23:32

It's not Mette-Marit, though I can see why you'd think it was!

Am I the only one who hates the Burmese? If it was mine I'd have it remodelled.

I like it more on Camilla than I ever did on QEII. She's very good at carrying off these thumping great set-pieces, in the same way as Max is.

But yes, it's not beautiful. It reminds me of those pictures that are made up of little crystal beads. It needs a few really big stones.

SenecaFallsRedux · 22/11/2023 02:53

I love the Strathmore on Catherine. That would be a lovely wedding tiara for a future royal bride.

And yes Queen Camilla looked absolutely stunning. I agree with others that the tiara is not particularly beautiful, but it definitely completes the whole look for Camilla.

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/11/2023 05:51

Some countries do small versions of the outfit destroying post it notes. I wish we'd adopt that. Charlene wore one recently and I'm sure Max has too.

Cackle · 22/11/2023 06:43

There must have been lots that Queen Elizabeth refused to lend out. I wonder why?

SqueakyDinosaur · 22/11/2023 06:56

In the period between Diana dying and Kate marrying in, there was really only Sophie to borrow them, and since QEII had given her both of hers, she might have felt it was ungrateful to not wear them.

The QM had quite a big collection of her own which QEII inherited; Princess Margaret was in poor health and not much seen in public. Princess Anne has I think 3 and I would guess she'd be utterly uninterested in faffing about with an unfamiliar one. The Kents and Gloucesters have plenty of thir own.

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/11/2023 07:00

But none of that explains Sophie's lack of good tiaras @SqueakyDinosaur.

Maireas · 22/11/2023 07:00

I really only have one question: who is that woman with William?

OP posts:
SqueakyDinosaur · 22/11/2023 07:07

I agree, Sophie needs at least one formal, quite old fashioned one. I still think one of the Fringe ones would suit her.

themessygarden · 22/11/2023 07:17

Poor Princess Margret, what a cascade of family orders, would it be against protocol to decide not to wear them as they will ruin the outfit ?🤔

Had Diana and Charles had a happy marriage, as a more grown up mature PoW and now a youngish Queen, Diana would have gone through the jewels vault like a dose of salts! She loved a bit of sparkle.

Jellycats4life · 22/11/2023 08:03

I’ve seen the photo of Samantha Cameron wearing a dress from her own label. A day dress 😱 She looks so incredibly casual. A really massive error. Also thought Rishi Sunak‘s wife Akshata looked underdressed, although her dress was at least an evening dress.
