The hair is just too much, extensions?

I'm trying to place this tiara Diana wore for the state opening of parliament. Pink gems?

Edited

I'm not sure but Google suggests that if it's1984 it's the Spencer Tiara. I wonder whether it's the lighting/photo that makes it look pink.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 17/11/2023 23:04

Yes it’s the Spencer tiara. It’s either the lighting/reflections or someone’s done some creative editing.

SenecaFallsRedux · 18/11/2023 01:38

Yes, that's the Spencer. I think that particular appearance was Diana's debut of a new hairstyle, which got more coverage in the press than the actual opening of Parliament did. Supposedly the Queen was not amused.

That was also only two months after the birth of Prince Harry.

It's dreadful, and the ringlets even worse. I like that blue but not the purple, too much. The DM describe it as burgundy, did the cameras change the colour?

mikado1 · 18/11/2023 08:23

I think the hand gestures etc are partly because she is still very uncomfortable speaking publicly. I'm sure the more she thinks about it, the worse it becomes.

I think the Spencer looks different, smaller perhaps, as her hair has been wound around it? I can remember her having longer hair around the time Harry was born - I thought she was so glamorous and grownup but looking at those photos now of course she looks SO young.

themessygarden · 18/11/2023 08:54

Yeah, she is not a natural public speaker and I think she is a shy person anyway, it is really admirable that she gets up there and does it, especially when she knows her every word will be scrutinised and likely criticised, it's a lot of pressure.

She's wearing it slightly differently as well isn't she - more like a headband than up on top of her head. When referring to editing I just meant the apparent colour of the stones.

Yes apparently Princess Margaret told Diana never to upstage the Queen again (or so they say, but it certainly sounds perfectly plausible...).

I find Kate's gestures while speaking a little bit distracting/annoying too but it's understandable. It just looks very public speaking coach as pp said.

I have always said that I think she needs to change up her haircut a bit more drastically at least once in her life. It's beautiful, and I understand why she wants to wear it long, but still! Live a little Kate!! Wink

Lifestooshort71 · 18/11/2023 10:47

Joining the thread, long-time lurker! I think Catherine's hair needs a good 4" (6"?) off and drop the curls and ringlets, personally I prefer the sleek blow dries or pony tails. Her hand movements in that clip remind me of the King's when he was younger - elbows nudging the waist and the hands flapping and clutching each other with what I presumed was nerves. She's not a natural at this side of the job so is actually doing very well. I loved her purple trouser suit the other day and thought she looked stunning.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard · 18/11/2023 11:42

Catherine's blouse in the Children in Need clip has a lovely colour and style, but the rainbow print is a bit tacky and cheapens it. Her hair is too long and I don't like it shading one eye when she is public speaking.

Meghan's dress is reminding me to stock up on Caramac bars before they're discontinued. The leather version and the black version are much better. The length is all wrong (I don't think she's as tall as she's always touted to be). Her make up looked great though. She looked much more relaxed at that event than any of the ones she's been at recently, and therefore her facial expressions are much more natural and beautiful then her usual over strained, rictus look.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 18/11/2023 12:10

Agree that the leather version is much better. Yes I noticed she looked much more relaxed and particularly in the candid shots looked obviously in her element.

I actually quite like it but it feels a bit like Kate's literal dressing returns - intended to look 'fun' and appeal to the younger end of the CIN audience. It makes me think of a CBeebies presenter. Agree that a ponytail would have been better.

justasking111 · 18/11/2023 13:59

Leticia, crown Princess Victoria, Kate and others are hanging onto their long hair for grim death. Perhaps because of updos tiaras.

Maireas · 18/11/2023 14:29

I thought Leti looked lovely with the shorter hair. The royal women do seem to all have long hair, it could be for ease tiara wearing. Diana managed with short hair, though.

I wonder how many of them wear hairpieces for their updos?

Maireas · 18/11/2023 14:46

I suspect most of them!

Her style towards the end of her life was great - really sleek and chic with the shift dresses and Chanel suits.
