Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

I've always worn 'let yourself go' slippers so my dh has just had to accept it as the norm. I would hate having to look good in my own home though.

I’ve got the Ugg version of those in bright green, so cosy. Couldn’t care less if that means I’ve let myself go 🤷‍♀️

Slippers are not "sexy", and if they are "sexy" then they won't be much good as slippers! (the purpose of which is to keep your feet warm and cosy)

I would take that as a judgement about some other area he’s not happy about OP. If they were on the feet of a size 8 Insta model I’m going to guess they’d still be fuckable. So my assumption would be that he’s not happy with your sex life and it’s a handy thing to be scathing about.

Surely slippers are just not sexy, full stop? Doesn't matter the style, they're for cosiness and comfort, not fashion or allure. What the hell is your DH expecting you to wear? I'd ask him to send you a link to some 'acceptable' slippers and see what he comes up with (while continuing to wear what you want).

In a slipper I look for - security, ie will they stay on my feet when I dash up and downstairs madly looking for my currently ringing phone.

• ability to be worn outdoors if I have to run out to fetch the washing in because it's raining and the washing is on the line and no other bugger appears to have noticed the downpour.
• warmth and cosiness
