Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

Why do slippers need to be sexy? Comfort trumps sex appeal, in my book. Besides, a man who doesn't prioritise my comfort isn't particularly sexy, either.

Ohwhatadag · 04/11/2023 15:40

Fuck sexy slippers. Can't a woman just walk around the house being comfortable and warm? Do we always have be in sexy mode - just like burping farting men are.

Ask him if he wants the 60s dollybird slippers (a la Freddie mercury 😂)

I've just been treated to a pair of Moshulu peanut brittle in blue. They were what I wanted. We drove to Trentham Shopping village because that was the nearest outlet. I wanted something warm, that I could put the bins out in, without a load of stitching that could come undone. Sexy! That never even crossed my mind. I admit, even though I love them, I do faintly hear fairground music everytime I look at them 🤡

And my fella? He bought them for me. He was asking the sales assistant if they did them for men! But I draw the line at matching slippers <shudder>

Never heard of Moshulu but they are nice!!

Get these.

His and hers slippers.

You can both look sexy.

So does your husband wear ‘Fuck me’ slippers?

You've just pent £60 on slippers and now you are going to buy another pair because your husband doesn't like them? Really ? How about he puts up with the slippers (which he doesn't have to wear so why is it his business ?) and you choose a worthwhile charity to support with the money you would have spent on new ones.

Candathon · 04/11/2023 15:17

I actually really like those @Boysnme !

They are seriously comfy and warm 🤣

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 04/11/2023 15:45

I have similar from the Celtic sheepskin website. Bloody love them. My husband doesn't like them either but he's got used to them. Just keep wearing them until he stops noticing them 💁

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 04/11/2023 15:48

Thanks for all the slipper suggestions everyone. I hadn’t heard of most of them and it’s saved me a lot of scrolling.

OP : where are you letting yourself go to? Somewhere a little more sensible than your current home life, hopefully.

AcrossthePond55 · 04/11/2023 15:48

@Candathon

So exactly what slippers does he find 'acceptable'?

and

What slippers does he wear?

My DH bought me the comfiest slippers I've ever worn. They're shearling lined suede clogs with a cork and rubber sole so they can be worn outside. He has the same, but in a darker suede. We consider them sexy as hell because of the person wearing them. 😉

Timeflieswhenyourehavingfun · 04/11/2023 15:49

He is completely wrong and out of touch, those fake uggs are what all the cool kids are wearing these days.

I love Uggs and have worn them for years, for comfort not style.

I’ve around 6 pairs of boots, minis, slippers.
DD used to laugh at me in Uggs yet has the temerity to steal mine now they are ‘In’.

Teen DS would love these! Where are they from? Are they washable?

justasking111 · 04/11/2023 15:49

I typed in sexy slippers for @Candathon mother of god 😂😂

Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.
Winnading · 04/11/2023 15:50

Oh God, OP your slippers are definitely more trendy than my moccasins. Newly bought moccasins too. If I'd seen yours first I would have bought them instead.

But no slipper (that does a good job) is sexy. By definition if they are sexy floofy, cloud like feather covered mules with heels and sparkles then they ain't keeping your feet warm and preventing you from tumbling down the stairs.

Current slippers were bought because I almost tumbled down the stairs several times in the last weeks. Cos they kept slipping off my feet. The last time this happened i realised head wounds were not a great look for me and 7 weeks off work was not an ideal to aim for just before Christmas. So I spent £40 on the monstrosities appending my feet right now. DP said oh how lovely, you got new slippers. If he had dared to mention anything about sexy, I would have reminded him about his lack of a six pack and thinning hair. Among other things.

OnlyFannys · 04/11/2023 15:51

This is the kind of thing my partner would say to me as a joke. In response I would make a big deal of trying to seduce him in the slippers e.g. overexaggerated stripper music while making eye contact and throwing the slippers at him as tho they are knickers

LondonJax · 04/11/2023 15:51

Slippers aren't supposed to be sexy. Like trainers (designer ones too, no matter what any brand tries to sell as otherwise) are not supposed to be sexy. They have a purpose. If you slip over in your trainers they're not fit for purpose. If your slippers leave your feet cold, they're not fit for purpose. Like wellies letting in water.

Wear your slippers and if he thinks they're 'nursing home' or 'letting yourself go' give him your shoe size and let him buy you some more. His problem, not yours.

10HailMarys · 04/11/2023 15:51

I mean… how sexy are his slippers, OP? I’m guessing the answer is ‘not very’ so I wouldn’t worry about this.

I like looking nice, but I wear slippers are purely for warmth and comfort. Even the ones that are meant to be pretty are still entirely unsexy in my opinion. Wanting sexy slippers is akin to wanting a sexy electric blanket.

arethereanyleftatall · 04/11/2023 15:52

I'm horrified that your first thought was to search out some sexier slippers than to tell your husband (not going d, it's a horrible thing to say) to not be so horrible. Wear the slippers if they're comfy. That's literally slippers point.

coxesorangepippin · 04/11/2023 15:53

Mine are boiled wool with rubber soles

^^

That'll learn him

Manadou · 04/11/2023 15:54

I'd have replied, "No, they're 'I'm going to let you go' slippers'.

WilbursWinnie · 04/11/2023 15:55

Another one coming on to rave about moshulu. I've had mine for 4 years and they're still going strong.

I've got the ballet ones but the also do these:

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 04/11/2023 15:55

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers

No, but I can recommend a new husband, because you’re current one is a dick if he thinks slippers need to be sexy.

Viviennemary · 04/11/2023 15:56

They are pretty grim I have to say. What about boot style ones.
