Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

They are awful. But slippers are for keeping warm.

buy barbie ones.

and, of course, point out casually how x is evident of him letting himself go for the next ten years.

Healthandsocialcaremodule · 04/11/2023 14:42

Unless you're keeping them on during sex I think they're great. They look practical and cosy.

sunshinesupermum · 04/11/2023 14:42

Love those White Company bow sliders ❤️

YikYok · 04/11/2023 14:42

That sounds like a challenge to me! Tonight, embrace your inner Bridget Jones and seduce him in your slippers and very little else. See if you can’t change his perspective .

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/11/2023 14:43

FFS when choosing slippers, I wouldn't be wondering if my DH found them sexy, I want them to be warm and cosy. I'm supposed to wear an orthopaedic insert with mine, so I need them to be able to fit that in which is why I have Ugg boot style ones.

Honestly OP, keep the ones you have if you like him and tell him to piss off (in an equally semi-joking way).

I wear either of the types in the photo, but Next also sell your type and I think they are probably more fashionable than my type as they've appeared on the website more recently than mine which have been there for years.

If they’re comfy I’d rather keep the slippers and chuck the husband tbh. But then again - I don’t have a husband who gas about inane stuff like this #privileged.

You said exactly what I was going to say - but far more eloquently than me!

I doubt my DP would notice or care TBH. As long as I'm comfortable I will wear what I want thank you.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 04/11/2023 14:45

So he'd rather you put yourself at risk of trips, sprains, broken legs and ankles to please his eyes? They're warm, they're comfortable and they've got some support and grip.

menopausalmare · 04/11/2023 14:45

We wear gumbies. Felt upper, rubber sole so you can pop to the bins.

EmpressSoleil · 04/11/2023 14:45

Posts like this remind me why I stay single! I did have an ex that wanted me to wear certain footwear, one of the many reasons he's an ex.

They're slippers fgs. Do they need to be "sexy"? If so I'd say you have bigger problems than slippers.

LadyCuntington · 04/11/2023 14:45

Well your husband is right. You need to look pretty for him to ensure you keep his interest - I would personally take a long hard look at your wardrobe if this is the standard you go for

VeridicalVagabond · 04/11/2023 14:46

LOL he'd hate mine then, mine are proper granny slippers. Tartan, sheepskin moccasins. I couldn't give a dusty fuck if I look sexy in them, I'm trying to keep my feet warm and not slip and break my arse on the wood floor, not attract a mate.

ladeluge · 04/11/2023 14:46

On another note I have never spent £59 on a pair of slippers in my life! I wear those belonging to my late mum who died in a nursing home FGS. They are brilliant, supportive, grippy soles, and fleece lined. Gorgeous.

Whoa!

Noseyoldcow · 04/11/2023 14:47

Cheeky git! Unless he wants to pay the bill for keeping the house warm enough for you to drift about barefoot and in a sexy negligee, id keep the slippers and let the husband go! 🤣

HoppingPavlova · 04/11/2023 14:47

I have never, once, when slipper shopping, wondered (or cared), if DH found them sexy. I imagine he’d also prefer some Victoria Secret negligee than an Oodie, but there you go. I prefer comfort and warmth when needed, that’s my sole criteria for these sorts of things.

Makemydaypunk · 04/11/2023 14:47

Much prefer your slippers to the ones posted with the bow! I don’t want frills and flounces on my slippers.

Sexy slippers don’t exist unless you’re talking about those heeled and feathery things but you may as well wear shoes. I prefer thermal socks to slippers.

intherough · 04/11/2023 14:49

Agreed - very dick comment

Mrsfussypants1 · 04/11/2023 14:51

They are so like the ugg ones that are sold out everywhere so his granny must be on trend then. Dh said he would never wear ugg slippers until I gifted him a pair one year, probably the most used christmas gift I've ever gifted him. I would forget about it and wear them for YOU not Him.

IncompleteSenten · 04/11/2023 14:51

Tell him to zip it or you'll buy these

Tempnamechng · 04/11/2023 14:51

Remind him you aren't there for decoration and wear the dammed slippers if your feet are cold.

Makemydaypunk · 04/11/2023 14:51

Are these what he had in mind! 😂
