Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

The only sexy slippers are those high heeled ones with fur/feathers. I do agree that slippers should be chosen with warmth/comfort in mind but my god those really are ugly. Not so much let yourself go as old before your time (unless you are actually 80 plus.

My husband looks equally sexy in his croc slippers.

All I want from slippers is somthing that will keep my feet warm and cosy and is practical for around the house. I really couldn't give a shit about anything else.

Do you and your DH not joke around? You sound far too sensitive. I think all slippers are ugly, but then they are designed for comfort over style surely? I call DHs his grandad slippers but he wouldn't consider changing them or posting on a forum about it.

I don’t think slippers are designed for the male gaze tbh. They’re supposed to be comfy.

tell him to not insult your completely ON TREND practical warm slippers, or else you will let him bloody go, not just yourself.

His mum once mentioned to me that her husband (dh's dad) didn't like her wearing slippers round the house because they're not smart. Kinda sad that she's never had the pleasure of pulling on a fluffy pair of slippers after a long day? Maybe I'll buy her some like mine for Christmas....

Same here. Mine are sheepskin with a sturdy sole. They are extremely warm and comfortable and I wear them to take the bins out etc.

They were £19.99 from TK Maxx and I've had them for about 5 years so they have been a very good buy.

Probably a better thing to have around the house than a man who makes stupid comments.

Oh dear! I'm considering treating myself to some proper sheepskin ones. I want soft soles / barefoot on sheepskin feel, which definitely means dubiously tasteful fashion sense Very tempted by these proper boot ones though I might see if I can find some to actually try on somewhere for size.

Strange comment. I wouldn't particularly care what slippers my wife had on her feet if they were comfortable. And I don't think those are "aunt Mabel" in her 90's either. They look fine. We're in our 30's.
