Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

It's never about the slippers. If he cared that much about the slippers, he'd buy you a different pair for Christmas and stop worrying about what to buy you for Christmas. And if he's happy and content, he really wouldn't worry what you've got on your feet or if you've "let yourself go". We all get older with every passing year, if we're lucky. Put the slipper dilemma over to him for a Christmas present, and if he doesn't want to take the challenge, it was never about the slippers.

To be sure the slippers look like pantomime horse hooves, but there's nothing attractive about slippers. I'm looking right now at the slip-on sheepskin ones on the end of my legs. They're for comfort.

What were your last ones like, the ones that were, by implication, OK?

The way I see it you have several options:
Wear the slippers regardless - you like them and they're comfy, that's a win.
Wear the slippers and nothing but the slippers. Husband may change his tune.
Buy the husband his own "let himself go slippers" so you can be comfy together.
Take a hard look as to why you think husband made the remark and why it made you feel insecure enough to want to immediately change the slippers. Maybe there's something there that needs work.
But also blokes can be kind of dumb, it was probably an off hand comment that landed wrong.

Having seen the picture of you husbands slippers, I am minded of the pot calling the kettle black. Why don't you get him a pair to match yours, so you can both let go together. His slippers look like he has let go and gone.....

Totes toasties non slip socks all the way here. Seriously he should be grateful trying to help with heating. Failing that nice icy feet placed on his back when he is sleeping should demonstrate why needed.

Course they’re not sexy they’re not meant to be ! They’re not the worse kind though by any means . I find the slipper boots higher up ones to be acceptable if you are trying to not completely passion kill 🤣 but slippers are never gonna be hot are they feel will be though !

What was darling husband wearing at the time he made the comment? I can guarantee he was not at peak sexiness himself.
I think they’re lovely slippers tbh, not cheap either, a luxury pair that I would be taking good pair of… not wearing to out the bins out etc!

I genuinely think they’re chic! I’m 26 and might buy them myself, so not quite grandma age. Whilst I’m relatively well turned out day to day, at home I am comfy and look like an absolute slob. My partner has never cared nor commented on it.

What clothes is your husband wearing in order to keep you interested? Facials, cream, shaving, exercise routine?

Honestly so shocked by all of the comments saying they're granny/nursing home slippers etc. That style is really trendy right now, it's just like the ultra mini ugg boots and popular with young adults/teenagers. There are lots of granny-style slippers out there but these definitely aren't!!
