Husband called my new slippers 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

I brought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis which I thought looked nice.

I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

These are the slippers I was wearing: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-sheepskin-cropped-slipper-boots-light-grey/p110970563?size=3&s_ppc=2dx92700078342469774_brand_mixed_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEq9KvjXLORj9mTAJxXNnTZXnnoku3kAj4oSrHkGtNOHWGnWqXz3ZHBoCFdcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy.

Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally.

My husband would call them 'scone shoes'

I would like more information please.

Poppingmad123 · 06/11/2023 22:16

I’m sorry op but they do look kind of granified. However, they do seem to be the rage so what do I know! The ones I’ve seen on next are very similar.

Does your husband find thigh high boots sexy? These might keep you both happy 😂😂😂😂😂

Wow! - am not sure he'd know how to react to those😂

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice to just wear them anyway, no matter what he says.

Oh FFS now we have to be sexy IN SLIPPERS?
They look comfortable and warm OP, and that is, as far as I know, the only requirements for slippers.

northernbeee · 07/11/2023 11:50

I mean, they do look like Tweenie shoes but since when have slippers been sexy (apart from the late 70's when they had huge fluffy pompoms and heels!!)

nopuppiesallowed · 07/11/2023 12:18

What you really need to do, OP, is tell your husband that if he gives you any more derogatory comments about letting yourself go, you will buy a whole body sheepskin slipper - something fur lined that you can step into and zip up and that goes from the tips of your twinkly little toes and right over your head. That would take non sexiness up to a whole new level.....

JellyBeanz77 · 07/11/2023 13:13

Just what I was doing to say….

they’re horrific - sorry 🤣

BigPharma · 07/11/2023 13:15

Hello I agree with most posters, in that slippers are meant to be cosy and warm, a bit difficult if your slippers are those fluffy kitten heel type ones.

But I do understand your hubbies point - there are comfy and warm knickers/ Pants, dressing gowns and slippers ( that can give an elderly lady/ man vibe too ) ...
I am 40 BTW so on the cusp i feel of not wanting to wear uncomfy stuff for fashion anymore- but also not wanting to go straight to fleeces with cats on printed leggings yet.
also 40-60 pounds for slippers is very expensive ( your just paying for the name, made in the same factories as the cheaper ones like M&S and Next for example)

Abstractreader · 07/11/2023 13:35

THIS.

torimangion · 07/11/2023 14:02

I agree that your husband has come across as a bit of a dick. If you can't relax and let go at home, where can you???

That said, there are so many prettier slippers around, and I don't mean the fluffy Barbie slippers either, unless you're looking to seduce him, that is LOL. Even Peacocks have pretty enough slippers for next to nothing.

THAT said (hee hee) if you want to wear your John Lewis slippers to hell with everyone, go with your gut. Though if he were my husband I'd have told him exactly where to put his comment!

mooneigh · 07/11/2023 14:20

I bet he would prefer you wear them rather than you warm your feet up on him 😆

AuntMarch · 07/11/2023 16:28

I wish I could wear them OP, they look cosy.
I use an AFO and can't keep anything slip on on my feet (well, foot) without it, and it's no good wearing it trying to "lounge"

It means I have to rely on thick socks for the warmth.. not good for the bins/washing dash though!

Here's a picture of my DH's slippers. Not exactly alluring....

He thinks his are nicer than mine. He would point out that he only wears them occasionally, not all day (like I often do in the winter).

Well he's got no room to talk about letting yourself go slippers!

Can anyone give an example of a trendier slipper?

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 07/11/2023 18:49

I wear crocs as my house shoes, usually combined with a Simpsons nightie, hairy legs and a pair of totes toasties if it's really cold.

Let myself go a long time ago, there's no turning back now. 😌 🤣🤣🤣

RecycleMePlease · 07/11/2023 19:47

When I'm living my best life, I am in sheepskin boots (costco FTW) indoors, superfit waterproof boots out-doors in winter, barefoot/crocs in summer. Because they are comfortable, and that's the point.

Having said that, I'm a bit of a hypocrite perhaps, because I find those sheepskin moccasin things that were all the rage for a while for men (and deck shoes, which I view as basically the same, but sweatier), deeply, deeply unattractive.

Lovethatforyouhun · 07/11/2023 19:54

The phrase “let yourself go slippers” is permanently in my parlance now. Obsessed 😂

Bluemountai · 07/11/2023 20:56

DH & I wear uggs boots in the house as a sleepers as they super comfy and warm. Similar to these, bought in Australia

I would prefer them a bit higher like boots. I think they do look a bit funny but I guess many slippers do and people just whatever id comfortable in their houses.

Bluemountai · 07/11/2023 21:15

What about socks and flip flops. This has become quite the fashion outdoors for young people. I still don’t get it.

Catlover77 · 07/11/2023 23:21

These remind me of Bungle’s legs

Catlover77 · 07/11/2023 23:21

That didn’t work. My comment was to random

DaNcInGtEqUiLaCaT · 07/11/2023 23:23

Are you 80? My grandmother used to wear things like this in 1990.
