I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

@Loopzy it's such a beautiful dress isn't it! What I would say is that it would be a good investment piece as it is something you could definitely wear again and it's a lovely piece to keep in your wardrobe to pull out for special occasions. If you are interested in renting, I'd look at Hurr as they have a huge collection to choose from and lots of amazing designers

Thanks for the jacket inspiration. I looked at the first pic and remembered that my green winter jacket has a detachable lining and becomes a lovely “ throw on”. So I will be buying a couple of the FLT tops with the money I’ve saved. It’s so weird. I’ve been feeling quite down , pain and mobility issues made me feel so worn out and useless. But the leggings and new clothes have given me such a boost. You are a genius. Thank you.

frillseeking · 29/03/2024 10:46

@Zebracat this is so great to hear and one of the reasons why I do what I do. People often dismiss fashion as frivolous but I know the effect it can have if you feel good in your clothes and comfortable in your own skin. I'm really pleased you're feeling good and that it's given you a boost and it's great this has made you think about items already in your wardrobe. Once you've got a few key pieces that are your go to's, you can add in a few new items as and when and build a great wardrobe that takes the stress out of getting dressed. Have a fab weekend!

Thankyou so much for your thread .
I think that yea some think it’s frivolous - but no - to me its an expression of self .
I think you have really helped lits of people .
Please may i have help with footwear - ? I really struggle to know what suits me !

have always worn vintage dtesses 1950 originals and converse wirh a small cashmere cardi in summer and a bardot cashmere jumoer in winter with freddies jeans and docs.

i still love vintage but as i am now 60 I find they are harder and more expensive to source. Plus i feel a bit like miss haversham/ cliche at times !

i am petite with pale
skin .
i suit jumpsuits amd strangely maxi dresses!
i cant have low cut tops as they come too low on me .

I suit teal , green , pink , duck egg - but am finding , on my search for current clothes, trousrs seem to be in neautrals and black - t shirts too

have never worn neutrals?
so i discount trousers like the black h and m ones you linked to op- maybe i need to try? As current things dont seem to have my shades? ( i have the h an m trouses in orange!) but have no idea how to style them .

please can you suggest a lovely current trouser based outfit including every day trainers?

the clothes that i have bought recently are loveky - but i have no idea how to style them .
these are - esska silver shoes t bar block heel
and
anthropology maeve cropped jeans - the ones with the pockets on - like a 70s influence ( they are not cropped on me due to hight )
i have what i consider two investment pieces in the shoes and the jeans
please can u suggest trainers for the jeans and a top

  • how to style them
  • amd also could i wear the esska shoea wirh the jeans - if so with what top
  • if i cant wear the essaka shoes with the jeans- how do i style them please
its a lot of money soent to sit in my w robe ! Thanks so much !!
Timetoaction · 29/03/2024 12:20

Aria999 · 29/03/2024 14:59

@Cismyfatarse it will be funny if we are both going to the same June wedding in Scotland 🤣 I will keep an eye open for the dress!

ShebaQueen · 29/03/2024 15:12

Thanks so much for this thread, I need a dress for an autumn wedding - quite formal. I'm a size 16, apple shaped, definitely need sleeves and I'm pale with auburn hair. Would really appreciate some suggestions!

I've got a more existential question about style @frillseeking. Have you ever worked with clients who just suddenly hate all their clothes? It's never happened to me before. I've always loved shopping, watching styling videos, reading magazines, following fashion influencers and now I just have no desire for any of it. Not sure how to get my mojo back.

juicy0 · 16/04/2024 08:22

Hi @frillseeking great to hear you're back after the school hols. I could really use your help with suggestions for an outfit to wear to Buckingham palace when I accompany my DC who is picking up their gold DofE award and a formal garden party in May. Open to a dress or trouser suit. I'm 5'6 size 10 with a budget of around £300. Thanks in advance x

mrssunshinexxx · 16/04/2024 19:16

@frillseeking not sure if you'll help with this one but I'd love some casual midi style fitted and floaty maternity dresses. That don't break the bank but il just wear them loads with white trainers probably or converse I'm a size 10 5ft 6 and 31 thanks so much in advance x

Pinko1 · 21/04/2024 21:21

@frillseeking what kinds of jeans would you recommend for an inverted triangle shape/apple? I'm looking to style myself a bit like a cool mum for some walks (so no heels). I like that cargo jacket style like below (and have one) but what can I wear inside/on my lower half and still stay warm! I was thinking maybe boyfriend ankle grazers and trainers?

@mrssunshinexxx sorry I've been super busy again! Here are some ideas for you below. The elasticated back style dresses are great for maternity wear because they stretch so you don't need to buy proper maternity wear and you can get lots of wear out of them post baby. I lived in these dresses when I was pregnant and they're so comfy to throw on but still feel put together. I actually preferred being pregnant in the summer as found it easier to dress! Let me know if you would like any links. Hope this helps

@mrssunshinexxx also love the knitted dresses that are around at the moment. This style from M&S is just under £30 and looks good with trainers but would look great with Birkenstocks and a denim jacket.

@frillseeking thanks so much I'll take a look on m and s , appreciate that!

preggo39 · 12/05/2024 17:15

Hello @frillseeking I have a style problem!

I had a baby 8 weeks ago and I'm looking for some cheap-ish tops that will hide how enormous my breasts are while still providing easy access for breastfeeding. My usual style is dark colours and slightly grungy/masculine - so wide leg / ovoid trousers, chunky sandals / boots, black jeans. I don't really wear bright colours or very feminine styles or heels.

I'm usually a size 8 but am between a 10 and a 12 on the belly right now. My boobs are humongous - they were big before but I'm now an H/I cup. I just want a couple of stylish tops that won't draw attention to them to see me through hot summer weather while breastfeeding the baby!

Thank you 🙂

Littleguggi · 12/05/2024 17:50

Hi @frillseeking also looking for some recommendations please if you get a chance! Looking for a wedding reception guest dress to wear in size 8-10 petite. Ideally something that can be worn with gold block heel sandals. I don't mind a dress or a 2-piece combo outfit! I'm a winter colouring. Thanks

Littleguggi · 12/05/2024 17:51

Should have said budget wise anything up to £100

frillseeking · 13/05/2024 07:52

@preggo39 two styles that sprang to mind are the button through waistcoats that are on trend at the moment and the striped shirt look. It can be harder to dress post partum than when pregnant because suddenly the bump has gone and you feel conscious of your tummy and have to learn how to dress a whole new body shape again. I think it's important to still feel fashionable and stylish - I remember first time around not knowing what to wear and feeling lost and in effect, losing your sense of style can feel like losing yourself (which is a whole other thing post baby!)

These are just some ideas but the waistcoat has a nice v neck which flatters a bigger chest and is loose fitting through the body so won't cling to the tummy and buttons which is good for feeding. With jeans and chunky sandals this would look casual but on trend and stylish. I also love the masculine shirts that are around and you could wear a bf friendly vest underneath if you wanted to wear it open. There are also some great linen options around which are great for keeping cool and on trend. F&F have some great linen co ords at the moment which won't break the bank but would look put together and you could mix and match the trousers and shirt or wear as a set with chunky sandals. Hope this helps

Thank you @frillseeking I especially love the shirt idea - will get searching ♥️

lindyloo57 · 13/05/2024 12:03

Love the black waistcoat, where is it from please .

frillseeking · 13/05/2024 13:22

@Littleguggi what's your kind of style? Do you prefer plain/printed? Something flowy and pretty or more structure/ formal?

OP posts:
frillseeking · 13/05/2024 13:28

@lindyloo57 here's the link

ASOS DESIGN button front crinkle vest in black link

All I would say is that you might have to try a few of these on to get the right style for you/your body shape. I bought one recently and had to try a few to get the right one. It's a great piece though that you can wear with jeans and they look really nice with a skirt too. I have a slightly smarter one that I've worn with printed side legs, a satin midi skirt and with jeans so I've got a lot of wear out of it already.

OP posts:
lindyloo57 · 13/05/2024 13:45

Yes I agree you have to try a few before you find the one to fit well, I ordered 4 different ones from m&s and only one fitted me as I have a full bust, sorry I can't link, it only comes in two colours black and a sage green, it's great.
