I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

Thanks so much @frillseeking. I actually really like all 3 options. I'd never think to look at New Look but I love the first one. I've ordered the Nobody's Child dress as this is my favourite, it looks really simple and elegant. Fingers crossed!

Careeradviceplease1234 · 28/10/2023 12:10

Any suggestion for a plus size casual dress for Christmas day/eve. Comfortable but pit together. Something flattering for a big tummy.

frillseeking · 28/10/2023 13:06

@Careeradviceplease1234 id suggest something like this dress from M&S. Its in a jersey fabric so nice and stretchy and comfy for lounging about it and once you've had your Xmas dinner but the sparkle makes it festive without being over the top.

Frillseeking, it's great to have you back!
A boots one. I have very wide feet with bunions, it's joyous:-(
I love the boots upthread but they would kill my feet. The only boots I already have that still fit are my solovairs (DM style Derby boots).

Can you give me any examples of winter dresses/skirts that look good with DMs? When I was 20, I (thought I) could carry off anything. 30 years later, I have hugely lost confidence.

I know age doesn't count for anything. But my clothes confidence has been battered. Oh, and I am 5 foot:-(

I'm going to a JL personal stylist experience on Monday I so hope it's not a waste of time

frillseeking · 28/10/2023 14:57

@Careeradviceplease1234 I also really like this dress for a bit more of a dressy look and it's nice to have a bit of sparkle at Christmas! https://www.marksandspencer.com/foil-printed-v-neck-knee-length-tiered-dress/p/clp60624096?intid=mobileappppdpshare

Hi, could you give me some advice/ideas on what to wear under this velvet jacket? I bought the suit primarily for a Christmas wedding, but will also wear to my works night out. The model in the image is wearing a black vest, but do you think black is the best colour to go with this? Would cream/gold/ another colour go better? Also, I don't love my upper arms (flabby, KP), they look OK with some fake tan, but I think I would prefer a sleeve of some sort. Thanks in advance!M and S green velvet suit

Shrug on this velvet blazer to bring a touch of luxe to your look. The single-breasted style is cut to a relaxed fit, with a shawl collar that complements its flattering drape. Its edge-to-edge design has no fastenings for a sleek finish, while the two...

@popularinthe80s thank you! I think there are some really great outfits you can style with DMs. I've attached some inspo for you. Personally I love seeing them paired back with a smart blazer and pretty dress or a satin skirt and jumper- mixing the tough with the feminine

Have you seen any jumpsuits for a petite 5ft1, size 8-10 something that is flattering on the waist/tummy but also shows off toned shoulders and arms? Alternatively a midi dress, but fancying a jumpsuit!

Floradorachance · 29/10/2023 00:07

I am looking for a dress like one of those in the pictures you shared - long sleeves, knee length or shorter to be paired relatively casually with thick tights chunky boots. V neck (or just not high necked as I have a large chest) - seen anything you can recommend? Thanks so much for doing this!

popularinthe80s · 29/10/2023 09:37

@frillseeking thank you so much! Some lovely ideas in there!

frillseeking · 29/10/2023 10:46

@lisam78 love the suit. I think a gold top would compliment the green, something like the below. Quite difficult to find but I'm sure the shops will have lots of similar styles coming in the next few weeks. I can also see it styled more casually with a slogan tshirt and trainers

@Littleguggi a few ideas here. I love the gold plisse style for some real glitz and glamour and the tie waist is flattering on the tummy area but I also like the simplicity of the two plainer styles which might work if you want to show off your arms and shoulders more. The Ro and Zo one has a clever pleat detail which is good for the tummy. They would look great with a gold platform and some simple jewellery

Ah this is so fab. I was having a really down moment about Christmas outings coming up.

I work in a very young entertainment industry. I have loads of events to go to.

I am 45 and have a thyroid condition that has seen me pile on pounds. My style used to be a bit Claudia Winkleman. No idea what to wear now that I look like a 5 foot10 potato. Everything looks frumpy. Considering just not going out until February 😩

frillseeking · 29/10/2023 11:07

@CornishIrish have a look at Never Fully dressed. They've got some gorgeous dresses in at the moment. They're usually quite drapey so cut to flatter.

@CornishIrish another look that would work with your height is the metallic trouser look. I've just ordered some silver trousers to wear with a cami and blazer for Xmas drinks which I think is a flattering look that's on trend that will work for dinner/ drinks but you can style with a jumper for a more casual look. I also love them paired back with a white shirt which you can then pouch if you're conscious of tummy area

Amazing - thanks x

TheLeadbetterLife · 29/10/2023 13:22

Hi OP, would love your thoughts on styling a vintage black silk tuxedo jacket. I just bought a fabulous one on Vinted - Italian, satin notched lapel, oversize cut, single button double breasted.

I want to wear it to a friend's 40th birthday party in December. I'm tall and large-framed, broad shoulders, rectangular, size 14-16. I suit wide leg, floor length trousers. Are wide-leg sequin trousers still in for parties? I think something like that with a silk top might work.

I won't wear heels, must be flat shoes. I like to be comfortably elegant!

DarlingCoffee · 29/10/2023 13:34

Hi @frillseeking glad to see you back! I’m looking for a relaxed but glam outfit for Christmas Day. Ideally separates that I can mix and match and wear again over the festive period! I’m an hourglass UK 16. Thanks!

Isabelle70 · 29/10/2023 14:03

I have no parties scheduled but following to see all the great ideas 😀

frillseeking · 29/10/2023 16:27

@TheLeadbetterLife sounds like a great Vinted find! Love the outfit you have in mind. M&S have a good option in here but I LOVE these Sezane gold ones if you want to blow the budget. Similarly, Jigsaw have a gorgeous palazzo style in at the moment (out of stock on their website but still available on John Lewis.) and I've attached a Pinterest image for inspo

Mm I do like the pleats on those Sézane trousers...

frillseeking · 29/10/2023 17:15

@DarlingCoffee I love a relaxed trouser for the festive period as there's no way I'll be wearing jeans but it's nice to still bring the glamour. I love these velvet ones from M&S. They work well with a Christmas jumper as they've styled but you could equally dress up with a blazer and heels or a smart tshirt and leather jacket and trainers for a smart pub lunch in those post Christmas days. Another really versatile wardrobe piece is a satin midi skirt. They look great dressed up with heels but also work with flat boots or trainers. I've recently styled my silver satin one with a stripey tshirt and bomber and it really works and the bias cut works really well for curves

@Floradorachance this should be a really easy find but there's not many good options for this style of dress around at the moment and it's also quite hard to find a style that ticks all the boxes. These are my two favourites, a budget and a blow out but I think they both work for what you're after
