I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

@frillseeking thank you so much for doing those, loving the outfit ideas! I cracked and bought the Warehouse bacofoil trousers (got them a bit cheaper on Vinted) so looking forward to trying some of these out with bits I already have in my wardrobe. I think sock boots might be next on the wishlist…

frillseeking · 15/12/2023 13:33

@rodarrrach gorgeous dress! It looks stunning! I love this blue jewelled headband from ASOS, I think it would look lovely with the dress. I'd definitely go for earrings over necklace. Shoe wise I see that style with a platform, what do you think? You could go for tonal, gold or silver really, whichever you prefer

@rodarrrach for a bit more of a funky look, you could go with a burgundy velvet shoe and hair bow and bring back the blue with the earrings

@Tafelberg great that you found some on Vinted. Sock boots really are so handy to have. They look great with a midi dress or skirt and smart with trousers but they also look good under cropped jeans when it's too cold for trainers. Not to encourage but they are realty versatile! 😀

Tafelberg · 15/12/2023 14:48

@frillseeking yes - I wanted to wear some cropped jeans out last night but none of my boots looked quite right with them. Are there any you’d recommend in particular? I liked the plain black ones on the silver trousers mood board.

frillseeking · 15/12/2023 20:34

@Tafelberg those ones are fromJohn Lewiss*. Ignore the bad reviews, they are for the silver colour way. I also like these ones from Bershka and other stories.

@frillseeking amazing - thanks. Will leave you in peace to enjoy your weekend now but have really appreciated all your advice (and will probably be back for more at some point!)

MrsSpoon79 · 16/12/2023 17:03

Hi there, I'm looking for some excellent advice from @frillseeking

I've never come across any of your threads before. This one has been eye opening. Love it.

I'm looking for a bit of advice about what I can purchase to update my wardrobe. Overall I like what's in my wardrobe....I've got about 5 to 10 items to declutter but overall I feel my clothes are relatively cohesive.

I'm working in schools currently...previously as a teacher and now in a more advisory role whilst also with students at times. I want to be able to let my stylish side come out, with a bit of creativity whilst also looking professional, neat, polished, approachable. What kind of looks should I go for? Random, I know.

Also I can't decide between a pair of Dr Marten Chelsea boots with cream elastic or with black elastic (and cream leather). Any advice?!

frillseeking · 17/12/2023 21:04

@MrsSpoon79 what kind of pieces have you kept in your wardrobe after your declutter? Is there anyone in the public eye whose style you'd like to emulate? This is the kind of work I normally do on a 1-2-1 session but I'll try to help. You can definitely allow your creative side to come through in your professional wardrobe though. Looking smart is about looking put together and feeling confident in your clothes rather than the actual pieces you're wearing. A stylish midi dress and flat boots for example looks much smarter than a cheap, ill fitting suit

Hi Frillseeking

I fear I have left this too late but suddenly I am in desperate need of a black sparky (glitter) jumper dress!

I'm an apple size 16/18 with good legs ( if I say so myself! 😛)

I've done lots of googling but no luck!

Thank you!

frillseeking · 20/12/2023 20:29

@rockstarshoes bit of a challenge! I've seen lots around but either out of stock in your size or too late for delivery. I've just seen this one, could be a goer!

You are a legend! Thank you!

Have ordered it & will hopefully pick it up tomorrow!

I'll let you know how I get on! Thank again! 🍾

@rockstarshoes you're welcome! Fingers crossed!

@frillseeking i got some of the satin skirts you recommended and have to agree just having the longer length gives it such a fresh feel. Love them.

frillseeking · 21/12/2023 23:41

@Urgenthelplease fab! Which colours did you go for? The longer length looks a lot cooler and is easier to wear isn't it - some of the midi lengths cut you off in the wrong place and can look a bit frumpy

OP posts:
Urgenthelplease · 22/12/2023 07:36

I got bronze gold/yellow and a polo dot @frillseeking the ASOS version.

Pinko1 · 22/12/2023 11:12

@frillseeking do you do one to one sessions?

Im 5ft 6, early 40s, dark skinned, slightly more apple shape with a big bust, decent legs but my weight is around my middle.

Im looking for more on trend work wear as i work in the media but i cant seem to get anything right! Heels are an out as i have a foot issue so ive been trying flat ankle books or trainers with wide legged trousers. However im always worried that the black blazer with bright coloured tops is a bit 80s so i havent invested in the blazer yet. Instead i wear a cardigan from Zara or a really long ankle length cardi. Nothing feels smart!

Any tips for work styles? I love the look of Other Stories, Cos and Arket but im not sure i can pull it off.

CUDet · 04/01/2024 10:18

Finally bought the Violet Ponte Shift Dress you recommended @frillseeking. It has been in my basket on the Boden website ever since, it went down to £28 today so I snapped it up.

Kellioo · 04/01/2024 14:04

@frillseeking if you have the time please could you give me a steer for a couple of outfits to wear to a conference at the end of Jan.

I'm 5ft 10in size 10, carrying a few extra lbs post Christmas, so stomach not as I'd like.

I will be the only woman in a room full of men in shirts, ties and suits. One of the days leads straight to an evening dinner.

I need to feel confident and that I have earned my place there, as I really suffer from imposter syndrome. My usual style is fairly smart and classic.

Thank you 🙏

Urgenthelplease · 08/01/2024 03:03

@frillseeking so the metallics were a bust from Warehouse and annoyingly I realise they now charge for you to send returns AND don't allow you to bundle them either which is a pain as I'm overseas. So instead I went to the zara marine straight cut. Still finding it hard to know what footwear with wide leg (slight crop) trousers. Any tips?

CMOTDibbler · 08/01/2024 17:48

I need help! I'm 51, 5'9, sz 14, 32f bust, white hair, pale skin, green eyes. I need some 'elevated lunch with dhs clients' sort of outfits, and am absolutely rubbish at this. I did a JL personal styling thing and got a lovely Reiss camel coat, and some nice shirts, but could do with some more outfits that aren't me at work as I feel like I have two good outfits for these occasions

Backinthedress · 26/01/2024 17:18

I have a dark green leather (effect) pencil skirt which I love but don't wear often as I find it hard to style it without looking overly...sexy, I guess. I like a bit of a sexy edge. Hence the leather pencil skirt. But it would be great if I could make ot work harder for its keep.

What shoes or boots would work? I've tried a light blue fitted shirt and black velvet jacket which worked well with black boots. I also have a cream ribbed turtleneck that I think would look nice an ivory satin tshirt and a sheer white blouse but struggle to know what leg/footwear would go with these light coloured tops. Any other suggestions for tops?

lisam78 · 05/02/2024 09:26

Hello @frillseeking you gave me such good advice for my Christmas outfit (got lots of wear from it, and loads of compliments!), so I'm back for more advice. I am going to a 90's night next month. The only thing I know for sure that I am wearing are flat shoes as therr will be plenty of dancing (trainers or boots!). I think it will be fairly casual, any advice? I'm 5ft 5, size 10/12. Thanks in advance!

frillseeking · 19/03/2024 17:50

Sorry ladies, I got swamped with work post Xmas and have been working with some of you privately. Can take on a few requests on here if anyone has any! 😘

I'm petite 5ft3 size 10 hips and twelve top, looking for jeans that aren't louse around the hip area, I want to get out of skinnies, but love the way they fit around the hips. I can't go too wide as being short they drown me. I'm very slim in the hips with a small bum.
