Does anyone actually feel comfortable in tights and dresses/skirts in autumn/winter?

I have always felt cold and itchy and just generally uncomfortable. I tried it again the other day and felt so irritated.

Plus lots of coats hang awful if you are wearing a skirt.

Does anyone actually feel comfortable and warm in tights and a dress?

I do like dresses in spring/summer and even tights can be bearable in spring when it isn't too cold. I think the cold contributes to the itchy feel.

I've never experienced this. Which combinations are you thinking or?

Yes I feel comfortable in tights and skirt/dress though more so in socks and boots rather than the tights.

Hapshepsut · 22/10/2023 09:06

In Europe I learnt that warm tights and a full skirt during the winter, especially in thick snow was a lot warmer than trousers

Seaside3 · 22/10/2023 09:06

Yes to dresses with tights, but have to be snag tights. They're great. I'm not a massive fan of a skirt on me, im too short and feel they just make me look shorter. But, if you're uncomfortable, don't wear them?

Rabbitcar · 22/10/2023 09:09

I usually wear leggings and boots under dresses, feels a lot less itchy / claustrophobic. I often remove the leggings when I get to the office.

LifeofBrienne · 22/10/2023 09:11

Yes, but I wear knitted tights (after a tip on here most of mine are literally school tights, Next age 15-16). I find them more comfortable as well as warmer, closer in feel to wearing cotton leggings.

AdamRyan · 22/10/2023 09:14

I hate tights toes, and my toes always go through them. Snag footless tights are a game changer.

Dresses, tights and boots are my favourite work combo. Problem is the cold office air con means I have to ruin the look with all the cardigans and wraps I can muster up.

GreyhpundGirl · 22/10/2023 09:15

Yes, I live in skirts and dresses. Other than jeans, I don't wear trousers. I get thick opaque tights or leggings and wear big boots.

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/10/2023 09:17

I cracked out the opaque tights for work last week. I wear a thermal base layer body over my tights and a dress over the top. Feels warm and comfortable.Ankle boots not shoes The dresses have been midi and coat was full length.

sipsqueak · 22/10/2023 09:21

I manage to get through all of autumn and winter without wearing skirts and tights. I'm not sure what the issue is OP - if you don't like it just don't wear it.

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/10/2023 09:21

Also a jersey dress is warm and soft. What is specifically making you itch? Is it the dress or the tights?

mynameiscalypso · 22/10/2023 09:24

I generally prefer trousers and boots in winter. I agree with you entirely about coats unless it's a short jacket which isn't always practical when it's cold or a massively long full length coat.

zeibesaffron · 22/10/2023 09:34

I am with you on the tights - they are itchy and restrictive, I can’t tolerate them and haven’t worn any for 20 plus years! I do though wear skirts and dresses in winter as i don’t wear trousers or jeans either (only exercise leggings to the gym).

I wear skirts etc slightly below my knee with boot socks/ over knee socks so theres no gap - and then a good pair of knee high boots.

ChevyCamaro · 22/10/2023 09:41

I can't wear tights for more than half a day. Itchy, crotch sagging, sweaty, restrictive arrggh! I wear leggings under dresses, or long socks and boots. Down with tights!

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 22/10/2023 09:45

I wear slips with dresses and skirts if I’m wearing tights. Some tights can be itchy- I’m careful what I wash them in,

evildan · 22/10/2023 09:46

I find tights and dresses comfortable. More so than stiff types of jeans for example. I have woolly tights and fleece lined tights for very cold days.

EerilyDecorated · 22/10/2023 09:49

I can't bear tights so I rarely wear a skirt or dress in winter, black leggings and boots under a short stretchy black skirt and casual top is the only exception, I don't feel the cold so jeans and trousers are far better for me.

Cyclingmummy1 · 22/10/2023 09:49

Yes, I wear skirts more in the winter than in the summer.

BarbedButterfly · 22/10/2023 09:50

I only tend to wear dresses and skirts so am perfectly happy and warm in winter. Also wear snag tights.

KnickerlessParsons · 22/10/2023 09:52

You're buying the wrong tights!

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/10/2023 09:54

Next do some extra high waisted tights I think which are really comfortable.

I agree. But I wish their footless tights came in a few more subtle colours - I don't want neon pink or yellow legs, but grey or a discreet pattern might be nice.
I wear mainly longish dresses with bare legs and trainers or sandals in summer, then with leggings or footless tights and DMs in winter. I'm on the lookout for calf-length slouchy boots , which will then mean I don't have to worry about the gap any more! I find dresses much more comfortable than trousers or jeans.

All2Well · 22/10/2023 09:56

I always feel more comfortable in skirts and dresses than jeans, trousers etc. Has led to a lot of snarky comments from friends over the years when jeans and a top was the unofficial uniform and they felt wearing a dress or skirt was too dressy (even when it was just a very casual dress). I have sensory issues though and hate rough heavy fabric or anything tight especially around my middle (so jeans with a metal button are a nightmare). I agree you need to find the tights that work for you and that will make a big difference.

But really just wear what you feel comfortable in...don't feel you have to wear stuff that makes you itchy and uncomfortable.

Burnoutwhat · 22/10/2023 09:57

I did until I got the fleece lined type ones which don't have feet and I wear them with socks and boots. I think the material isn't as itchy plus the lack of feet means they seem to fit better.

Excuse the question.. Does ones derriere not get cold?
