Does anyone actually feel comfortable in tights and dresses/skirts in autumn/winter?

I have always felt cold and itchy and just generally uncomfortable. I tried it again the other day and felt so irritated.

Plus lots of coats hang awful if you are wearing a skirt.

Does anyone actually feel comfortable and warm in tights and a dress?

I do like dresses in spring/summer and even tights can be bearable in spring when it isn't too cold. I think the cold contributes to the itchy feel.

Eek, didn't realise this was an old thread.

No itchier than jumpers surely? And while I wouldn’t wear, say, a parka with a skirt it’s not impossible to find a coat that’s suitable.

What I don't get about stockings is... does everyone who wears them have a thigh gap? And if not, don't your thighs rub?

I surely don't and haven't been able to go barelegged without risking chafing since I was a teenager. It's a pain. Even nylon tights don't always save me from it. Snag chub rub shorts (really dislike the name, but love the product) work well in summer, though!

When l wear stockings l wear them high on the thigh. A good quality suspender belt such as Fantasie is required. There’s lots of “bedroom” rubbish out there.

l switch to opaque tights in mid-winter though. But no probs bare legged in summer.

This only goes to show that one size does not fit sll.

I’ve been fooled again with an old thread too 🙁

@StarlightLady I thought there had to be some aspect of this I was missing!

Snag tights are great.

I love wearing skirts/dresses in the autumn/winter and have not experienced what you have with the tights. If it's really chilly, I wear a thin Heattech layer and I pretty much always wear an M&S cool comfort slip as they final layer before the dress or skirt if they are unlined as they hang really well then. I love Charnos opaque tights or wool tights and don't really notice them at all which must be a good sign. You might be sensitive to that kind of fabric/texture, maybe?

ichundich · 09/12/2023 08:02

Absolutely. I wear a vest underneath and thick or knitted tights with socks inside. Much more comfortable than some super high waisted trousers that dig into my intestines.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 09/12/2023 08:30

Yes. While I happily wear jeans/trackpants I've never felt comfortable in more smart pants, and actually find skirts and tights are warmer. I've never had itchy tights in my life, but find some trousers itchy.

However, I'm out of tights in spring, and not back in them until late autumn (I don't live in the UK).

I'm not understanding the problem with coats and skirts?

I too find it itchy and weird. Worse if you get caught in rain and get wet. The only exception being some luxury merino wool tights that a so soft you don't notice them. Generally though I never wear anything but jeans, thermal yoga pants and trousers x

Next ultimate comfort opaques are fab.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 09/12/2023 21:03

Next do good woolly tights, I live in them with knitted dresses and boots in winter, in fact I think I only own one pair of trousers that would be suitable for work and they don't come out very often.

I have a big long wool coat for winter too so it covers everything up when it's cold.
