Are we going to buy or have we peaked?

Mine asked me for Drunk Elephant last year, I nearly combusted at the price (at the time I was using £1.49 moisturiser from Aldi). Am I correct in thinking that Sephora do cheaper calendars with their own brand products as well? I think mine would like one of them as much but am wondering if I imagined it.

Possimpible · 12/09/2023 14:38

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky Age-appropriate and 'not too pricey' are both a bit subjective, but what about Pretty Little Thing? To me it feels much more grown up than the Boots 17 or Revolution but (other than possibly the tan drops and false eyelashes) the contents seem okay for a brand-conscious 12 year old.

Tell me why I now want Space NK desperately despite ruling it out before... I think the FOMO has hit

LaBrujaPiruja · 12/09/2023 14:54

Will there be a Liberty AC for men? Last year I really enjoyed it (present to DH)

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 12/09/2023 14:54

Thanks @Possimpible. That might work.

Thanks to the PP but much as the Boots 17 products may be good I don't think they will meet her brand conscious requirements.

Agree yes when she showed me Drunk Elephant I also keeled over at the price.

It's new to me as her 16yo sister is only just starting to really wear makeup and is happy with anything from Superdrug

I think her Xmas list will be 80% beauty stuff.

Ugh it doesn't look like the Boots Premium calendar is available yet on the website- maybe Beauty Advent Calendar got the launch date wrong beautyadventcalendar.net/boots-premium-advent-calendar-2023/

That's the same date Boots have on their Instagram about it, maybe will be later today?

PeachIcedTeaQueen · 12/09/2023 15:00

Looks like Space NK are doing a 15% off discount code on the calendar from Thursday https://help.spacenk.com/hc/en-us/articles/13495424720157-15-off-Space-NK-Beauty-Advent-Calendar

Boppertini · 12/09/2023 15:04

@PeachIcedTeaQueen well spotted! I’m surprised they’re doing a discount so soon!
I’ve tried to convince myself I’m definitely not buying a calendar this year (beyond my bonne maman calendar) but if other brands follow with good discounts I might just treat myself.

Puravida23 · 12/09/2023 15:07

Wow that would be galling for those who bought it today or tomorrow. I would not be impressed. What would be the point of joining the waitlist and early access if it just means you pay more

@Boppertini I think a lot will be heavily discounted, there is just too much choice and they are all quite samey as the year before.

Think my favourite is Selfridges this year!

Exactly what I was thinking. Good spot @PeachIcedTeaQueen but not good from Space NK. They should be rewarding loyalty.

LaBrujaPiruja · 12/09/2023 15:12

I have ordered LF for my nieces and another one for me. Not bad at £89.
I may be tempted by Space NK or any other “luxury” AC if there are huge discounts by November.
I love the box / package of this year’s Liberty but not the contents.

MavisMcMinty · 12/09/2023 15:18

I’ll definitely get the M&S one, as I can always do with £30-worth of warm knee-length socks in winter so their AC is a fucking bargain imo, and I want SOMETHING to open in December. May also get the Glossybox as LF looks very boring this year (after a really excellent AC last year), and it’s also good value. Next year I’ll get the Liberty one as I’ll have enough BD credit by then to buy it outright, and not have to look at the contents before buying, which rather ruins the whole experience for me, I blame this thread for my ennui this year!

MavisMcMinty · 12/09/2023 15:22

It’s a shame some enterprising company hasn’t done a “Drawer of Doom” advent calendar. All the Nars Orgasm blush, black eyeliners, dirty protest body scrubs, etc., all in one AC so people who like that stuff can buy it and the rest of us can avoid it completely.

There was one a few years ago. Was it Debenhams? It was terrible and a lot of chat on MN about it.

MavisMcMinty · 12/09/2023 15:29

Ha ha!

Twinsandsome · 12/09/2023 16:02

Can’t believe above RE 15% off space nk I ordered this morning. I’m going to see can I cancel and wait to Thursday

Twinsandsome · 12/09/2023 16:17

contacted them but it’s already been picked up by the warehouse so they can’t cancel so I have to return when it arrives and wait to Thursday. The lady in customer services asked where I seen about it and said she didn’t understand it either given we joined a waiting list. But gutted as I’ll be out the money twice for some time x

I don't think that the wait list gives you early access. I didn't join the wait list but can see it on their website. Seems to be generally available.

Housewife2010 · 12/09/2023 16:43

That 15% off offer is due to a unique code that they email you. Has anyone received one?

Puravida23 · 12/09/2023 16:50

@MidnightMeltdown even more galling then as the email I got this morning had a massive banner about early access and get the advent before every one else. Unless the early access was an hour/minute! or so before general release!
it dosent actually say on the email when it was going on public release so it could have literally been minutes earlier

MidnightMeltdown · 12/09/2023 16:56

They sent me a 15% off code which is valid until 15th but it doesn't work on the ac. I bet they only send that to their super customers who spend £££

MidnightMeltdown · 12/09/2023 16:59

@Puravida23

They probably generously allowed people on the waitlist to purchase an hour early 😂

It doesn't look like the 15% off on Thursday will be generally available to everyone anyway.

DollyDaisyDo · 12/09/2023 17:20

Are there any spoilers on the M&S one please?

it's not due out until 26th October by which time theHB is likely to be sold out!!

YorkieTheRabbit · 12/09/2023 17:34

@DollyDaisyDo I’ll get the M&S one, not had it for several years. Loved the JL last year but not so much this time.
