@ilovecherries I’m currently in Italy and brought 10 dresses for 9 days which has been a lunacy. 7 maybe? Have an amazing time!

10 for 9 days? So I should take LOTS more for 35.

Have you more than 10 cotton dresses @ilove cherries. It’s still quite warm in southern Spain. I think I would opt for 10 and rotate. I’d also put a couple of those in hand luggage just in case. I’m taking 3 Toast dresses 4 other for two weeks plus shorts and one or two skirts. The 4 other are very much sun dresses. I find I feel some of my cotton dresses are too dark for Spain or too weighty as I get quite warm.

Out of interest how much would people expect to pay for a 100% woollen coat these days? I agree maybe 10% nylon might make it wear better.

I do. Blush. Well, maybe have are linen. Very few bought new though. (I think that makes it better?)

@ilovecherries I took 5 for 7 days in Greece in the summer!!! Which was too many really but I wanted a choice...... and I put two in my hand luggage and one in a daughter's bag for fear of losing them.

5 weeks is a decent amount of time, I say 10 dresses Smile

I'm wearing the drift check pinafore today over a Muji cotton tee and BOILING (London) so vote for bringing only your 10 lightest dresses to Spain @ilovecherries Leave lots of luggage space so you can bring back lots of lovely shoes and leather goods!

(BTW I wasn't wearing the boots, just trying new ones out today like @OftenOrange though not remotely as cool!)

Re: coats I agree synthetics can be very useful in blends but I wouldn't go above £200 if the wool content was below 80%. But I have a lot of coats already, and can buy excellent quality deadstock fabric for less than £20/mm, so am extra picky.

Love that dress on you @clowniform !

I have been digging out some autumn/winter clothes as it is getting chillier here. I have a lovely navy merino wool ribbed skirt (long pencil/tube shape) from years ago…does anyone else have it or remember it (it also came in grey and green from what I remember)? I never wear it as I cannot figure out what to wear with it. It needs a longer top to cover my menopausal belly, but not too long as I am short. Looser tops make me look too top heavy (I carry my weight on the top half of my body anyway), but I never wear fitted tops.
Any ideas? I can’t find any photos of the skirt anywhere, but I’m sure someone will remember it!

All this chat of packing dresses in suitcases brings me out in a cold sweat. Having lost a suitcase travelling once, I never ever check in luggage anymore. I am now very skilled at whittling down my choices and packing them into a tiny carry on. Sometimes I wear many layers on the journey itself if I can’t fit everything in the bag 😆

lordloveadog · 26/09/2023 16:36

I would need a lot of dresses for 5 weeks. Really a lot.

Coat stupidly expensive and would be better to wait for sale, but in my climate it's usually proper coat weather by now and this is cheering me up about the long dark winter. I'll wear it for smarter work days and restaurants, opera etc. I have a very practical and actually quite nice Didrikson waterproof winter coat (among others tbh) but nothing that cuts it for fancier events. Thought I might get something from Max Mara but reckon I actually prefer this.

Stravaig · 26/09/2023 16:38

@Alpacasoft Yes, it's the high cotton content I'm being snooty about 🤣 As you say, marmite. Also though, just such an odd design choice.

Make a thick folksy coat with blanket stitch edging and blanket in the name out of a fabric that could be an actual blanket. Make a separate wool-cotton coat, for those who want something with whatever beneficial properties cotton might allegedly bring. 😉🤯🤷‍♀️

I have a mini-skein of yak somewhere, barely enough to pet from time to time; a whole coat would be a thing of wondrous warmth and beauty!
