@Snowyowl78 Oh! I tried the beret in the march sale and couldn't get it on! My dh has a tiny head, and we've always thought mine was bigger, but recently got curious and measured our heads and mine is smaller (so i just look like I've got a big head... fab). Hope you're fits and suits, it was cute!

clowniform · 23/09/2023 18:12

Thank you all for the kindness. I would be less critical if it wasn't so pricey, but as @ScottishMouse said the resulting effect really is quite cheapening. Also forgot to mention that it doesn't have French seams, which in such a simple cut and light fabric is fairly cheeky.

My personality is too prissy to risk it in clothes @dudsville 😉

@sonjadog I love that dress, that cut is very popular in Japan and I think it suits almost everyone I've seen it on.

OftenOrange · 23/09/2023 18:20

@clowniform I’m sad that the pattern placement has put you off the Ikat dress because IMO it looks really wonderful.
P P has never been something I’d think about unless it would be one of those that unintentionally draws attention to anatomical features.
I know you’re right to care , and to expect the best standard. from Toast , but it’s such a lovely dress on you,

ScottishMouse · 23/09/2023 17:41

And while i’m here, a question…
How is anyone planning on wearing the vneck Lydia jersey dress into cooler weather? Does it work with a knit over the top? What about boots, does it work with them? Or does it really look too summery for that?
I always think there is going to be a spell of weather in autumn where I can just layer a little, but I am already wearing a big jumper and a scarf (inside!) today.

I wear it with a long slim.black tee under it.

dudsville · 23/09/2023 18:25

😂 like those loungewear lotus leaf trousers!

Today I am wearing the gingham cotton/cashmere culottes I bought on eBay recently. I just love them, and would really like another similar pair. The sale mill pond ones went back as just too yellow, and I think the ikat ones, although beautiful, are too big a pattern for me. Hoping to see some more culottes with an elasticated (old elastic!) waist soon. Don’t they usually do the crinkle fabric in a wide trouser/culotte? I haven’t seen those this season (although I am always in two minds about the feel of that fabric).

I can't get on with the fabric. It's scratchy on me.

I have these. I've worn them once. The pattern placement on mine ate fine though. They are really see through!
Tbh, only for really hot summers which didn't materialise here.

OftenOrange · 23/09/2023 18:28

@dudsville Your outfit of the day sounds gorgeous , I love the way orange lifts outfit. And I remember that coat with envy !
I’m thinking about the green tweed coat too ,I may cave in very soon.
Waiting for it in a sale means one year less of floating around in it…..

I love those culottes. Sadly I missed out on them!

neveradullmoment99 · 23/09/2023 18:30

Actually, I got them buy the pockets were sewn backwards so had to return them. Toast wouldn't discount!

neveradullmoment99 · 23/09/2023 18:31

That's happened twice to me. A dress with pockets sewn backwards too!

I had that coat but didn't like the colours so resold it.

clowniform · 23/09/2023 18:38

@OftenOrange anatomical features, so elegantly put 😁 BTW, I thought the coat looked stupendous on you, so wish you weren't put off by the pockets!

@dudsville love the description of your outfit. I (failed to) try on a tiny Toast beret a few years ago too, solidarity!

neveradullmoment99 · 23/09/2023 18:40

The green Toast coat is gorgeous!

Stravaig · 23/09/2023 19:15

@clowniform I had my Kindred privileges revoked, and I've been a Toast customer since the very beginning!

Truly, failing to buy and/or returning items which don't fit or suit due to dodgy pattern matching, or lack of basic tailoring techniques, or inconsistent sizing, or declining standards, or non-existent quality control is a sign of a discerning mushroom pocketer who upholds the highest community standards - so what could they possibly object to?

The wee bleepity bleeps.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 23/09/2023 19:19

Fast moving thread again!
I also think the Ikat dress looks lovely @clowniform but agree about pattern placement, once you feel something doesn’t look right your eye is constantly drawn to it. Will you order again if it turns up in another sale?

@ScottishMouse I'm hoping to wear my V neck Lydia the same as the jumpsuit with a Breton underneath, but I am in Norfolk so the weather is generally more clement here. Unfortunately I can’t wear anything with a wool content so all my jumpers are cotton based, generally I wear fleeces and sweatshirts in the winter and I can’t see them looking great over the Lydia.

ScottishMouse · 23/09/2023 19:26

@neveradullmoment99 and @Theteapotsbrokenspout , I was wearing my vneck Lydia with a long sleeve tee underneath two months ago already…Scotland, eh?

Dee1224 · 23/09/2023 19:38

The dress looks spectacular on you @clowniform - they might sell you another at sale price if you contacted CS.

I was contemplating buying the knitted recycled wool tank, but forgot to try it on when I saw it instore last week. I happened to see a pic of Jodie Comer wearing it the other day and remembered I liked it. (BTW: I do NOT read the DM - the pic appeared when I was checking the cast list for season 4 of Killing Eve, which I am currently binge-watching!)

Yes!! Me too!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 23/09/2023 19:57

@ScottishMouse I lived in Scotland for nearly 20 years so I can empathise .

That looks lovely on her @Dee1224 , I like the colours better than the one on the website. I assume it’s best bought in store as each one must vary.

No1Mousie · 23/09/2023 20:07

Toast-ish or not? There’s a Seasalt shop newly opened in Aberdeen, near the train station and as I happened to be dropping off DH there, I popped in and saw this …

Dee1224 · 23/09/2023 20:18

Lovely pattern and material @No1Mousie

No1Mousie · 23/09/2023 20:26

it was really quite fitted on top, which isn’t very Toastie, but sleeves and skirt are quite billowy, which is. The fabric is lovely - sort of a crinkly cotton.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 23/09/2023 20:33

@No1Mousie I think Seasalt do have one or two 'toastesque' pieces. I saw a dress in there a couple of months back that really reminded me of toast but I can’t find it on their website now.
I also have a couple of their knitted cotton tanks which I really like.

No1Mousie · 23/09/2023 20:38

@Theteapotsbrokenspout they do have nice tanks, I am tempted by the merino ones.

@Dee1224 Its funny, I saw that tank on the Toast website and just didn’t particularly get it, but the one Jodie Comer is wearing is gorgeous- seems much lighter irl
