An opportunity to discuss styling all those clothes we have on temporary loan.

Hi @Theteapotsbrokenspout - yes, that’s what they said to me when I had to chase up last week. It’s a bit disappointing that it’s still an ongoing issue.

Hope it’s sorted soon.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/07/2023 11:09

@Dee1224 I will be making a big fuss if I don’t get my refund next Tuesday.

I also sent another £300 worth back yesterday so I shall keep a closer eye on refunds now.
I would have picked it up on my spreadsheet eventually but because I had the PayPal email I hadn’t been back and double checked.

Dee1224 · 29/07/2023 11:25

Indeed @Theteapotsbrokenspout - I have to say, Toast weren’t terribly apologetic about the whole thing with me - I am not impressed 🙃

ScottishMouse · 29/07/2023 11:26

Thanks for letting me know @Theteapotsbrokenspout . I’ll keep an eye next and call them on Tuesday if it hasn’t appeared.

Just got a response to my email from last night which includes the following:

I can see that a refund of £xxx was issued on 25th July. However, I can see that the refund is still pending on our end. This is due to the refund being a eCheque on PayPal. Unfortunately, at the time your refund was processed, our PayPal account had dipped below the minimum level of funds allowed. In order to provide our customers with the usual instant refunds, this has caused all refunds processed during the time it was not replenished to go to a 5 - 10 working day eCheque. We are very sorry this happened, and we have fed this back to our accounts team to ensure this is monitored more regularly to ensure this does not happen again.

Eh?? So I am penalised in having to wait extra time for my refund because their PayPal account went into the red? This seems very odd.

Stravaig · 29/07/2023 12:45

It sounds like they vastly misjudged the volume of returns! Something they wouldn't have to worry about if they standarised their sizing, checked it during quality control, and provided garments measurements online.

faustina · 29/07/2023 13:14

@Stravaig - exactly!

They'd only need to read our thread to be able to judge how many returns they were getting, and why!

Dee1224 · 29/07/2023 13:31

@ScottishMouse - my sister had the same problem as you with a PayPal refund a few weeks ago, the reason was the same - no funds. I had forgotten about it until your post brought back the memory. I said to my sister at the time that it was a bit odd…

Dee1224 · 29/07/2023 13:33

I did also think that the amount of time they were keeping some people’s money - I.e. mine on several occasions - must be earning Toast quite a bit of interest.

Maybe I am being too cynical 🤨

Countmeout · 29/07/2023 13:47

Sorry to hear everyone is having such trouble with refunds.

My pique long sleeve jacket arrived this morning. I think it will be useful as a cardigan/ jacket. I thought I might dislike the fabric but I don’t. Still to try it with a few things to make sure. I normally order small in tops but sized up which was correct. I agree with one of the reviews, think it was about this, that an extra button with different button placement would not have gone amiss .

My jacket is in the washing machine @Laska2Meryls . I was cowardly. I’ve gone for black. I need a black jacket anyway. I’m now wondering if I’ll be sorry I didn’t chuck my black Alix in with it.

That’s what I was (badly!) trying to explain upthread. I only know about it as I’ve been very embarrassed when I did it myself with clients. It doesn’t mean they are in the red, it’s that they’ve removed the funds from PayPal payments to their bank account, which I had also done. But then when PP refunds if there isn’t cash it doesn’t pull from the preferred funding source (in my case a cc), but rather pulls back from the bank. The bank won’t do a faster payment, it issues an echeque to PayPal. It’s a really annoying system and I was mortified when I did it. Also the original supplier can’t do anything about it in terms of stopping the echeque and refunding by other means. Everyone just has to sit tight unfortunately. The supplier also doesn’t have the money at this point, it’s been ring fenced by the bank to honour the echeque. So really it’s the customers bank that is benefiting from free cash.

Apparently it’s an anti money laundering measure.

@ScottishMouse Interestingly not the explanation they gave me, but it looks like it amounts to the same thing. Quite frankly I’m surprised they fessed up to that and didn’t stick to the IT issues party line.

Dee1224 · 29/07/2023 14:12

Hi, did I imagine some people discussing customised Toast knitwear on here or is it a real thing?

That's ridiculous! Seems very odd.
Quite worrying!

faustina · 29/07/2023 16:39

@Dee1224 - I wonder if you might be thinking of someone who said they sent a jumper off to Toast to be repaired and it came back with some nice visible mending?

Countmeout · 29/07/2023 16:56

Was it the knitwear made by the company who makes for Toast @Dee1224 @faustina . Is it a Donegal company? Someone ordered a custom size/ length jumper.

faustina · 29/07/2023 17:01

@Countmeout - oh yes it could be that! If it is, I don't think they make for Toast. I saw them on instagram and ordered a custom size and it was really nice, and then mentioned it on here and someone ordered one for themself and was also pleased. They're quite similar to the toast Donegal jumpers ( if you specify right) but half the price. I think it's called Donegal knitwear.co.uk but can check if you like ?

Countmeout · 29/07/2023 17:07

Thanks @faustina its @Dee1224 who wants to know. But maybe you could confirm for someone else @Snowyowl78 ?? Who was asking if you paid customs from Ireland? We were talking about Scout in Dublin and the sideline stuff.

dudsville · 29/07/2023 17:08

Can i ask your opinion about the ties of these trousers? I'm never going to use them, i don't need them and i don't like the bow. Do they look silly hanging down? Should i cut them off or stich them up in case i ever lose half my body weight?

Dee1224 · 29/07/2023 17:13

Thanks @Countmeout and @faustina - that’s what I must have meant - I thought I had imagined some new service from Toast!

faustina · 29/07/2023 17:14

@Dee1224 it is www.donegalknitwear.com
I did ask about customs etc and they said not to worry, but they seem like a small company which might just have a workaround - not sure

Dee1224 · 29/07/2023 17:15

Thanks @faustina !

Yes. I just ordered from them. Needed to wait about a week to clear UK customs but otherwise totally smooth transaction.

Haven’t managed to catch up on the thread, but going back to the moth chat…can anyone recommend sweater bags to keep knitwear in. Not vacuum type ones, and preferably ones that are fairly squishable to fit into drawers. Thanks!
