An opportunity to discuss styling all those clothes we have on temporary loan.

Just posting as I've somehow deleted this from threads I'm watching. Hoping this post reactivates that! Also I've decided not to cut the ties off the trousers even though my pics didn't load! But today i wore the oversized ecru emma with the andy pandy trousers and leopard print suede platform trainers... and i thought it was vaguely circus themed! The shoes were the animal act, the perkily striped trousers were the tent - toast's silly theme has infiltrated my unconscious choices!

dudsville · 29/07/2023 20:50

Hm, that hasn't worked. Annoying!

ToastCosILoveIt · 29/07/2023 21:46

I popped into one of the London stores today with two jumpers that have moth holes. They have sent them away to be mended as part of the repair scheme. It takes around three weeks apparently.

While there I bought the drawstring poplin skirt which I have wanted for a while. I am a high street 12 and had to size down to a small as the medium felt too big. I also picked up the poplin tank as it is almost sold out on line and despite mixed reviews, I loved it the first time I tried it on.

I tried the Alix stripe linen trousers too. They only had a small in stock and they were too snug so I would definitely need a medium. I really liked them, a lovely fabric.

Interesting you got on with the poplin top. I felt the bow visually dragged down my bust ( I don’t need more droop !) but I loved it on Nikki and it gets good reviews. I might try it on again. I love anything poplin.

Haven’t managed to catch up on the thread, but going back to the moth chat…can anyone recommend sweater bags to keep knitwear in. Not vacuum type ones, and preferably ones that are fairly squishable to fit into drawers. Thanks!

I use the Lakeland sweater bags - large ziploc bags. I can fit at least a couple in but perhaps I unwittingly overstuffed because the locking mechanism broke on a couple of bags, so I now only put one or two in at a time depending on chunkiness. I also add an anti moth sachet for good measure. I’ve been slow off the mark this year - so I’ve aired them outside today in the sunshine ( apparently the larvae fall off - they don’t like light/ sunshine). They are now in the freezer for a few days and I’ve bought more of the Lakeland bags to store them when they’ve defrosted. I swear I give them more attention than I do my husband. I actually I don’t know what I’d save first in a fire.

Noodle421 · 29/07/2023 22:58

Someone mentioned IKEA storage bags in the previous thread - I think they are 6 litre bags - pls can you jog my memory ? Once I’ve got an efficient system in place I promise I won’t mention moths again. It’s great to hear all your tips. Thank you X

Noodle421 · 29/07/2023 23:00

@ToastCosILoveIt i love the drawstring poplin skirt too. It looks so easy and effortless to wear

ilovecherries · 29/07/2023 23:53

I use the Lakeland zip locks with moth balls too.

Drawstring poplin skirt, you say? I love poplin. Not as much as I love cashmere, but almost!

Another one here that uses the Lakeland ziplock bags for my knitwear. I too add a moth killing sachet for good measure.

It was me.
I use the IKEA 6L ones for thinner knitwear.
Chunkier jumpers I use canvas bags, like which I seal with a clip.

The Lakeland ones are good but I don't want 3 things together, they all get destroyed if a moth gets in.

Alpacasoft · 30/07/2023 06:49

Should read -like shoe bags

ScottishMouse · 30/07/2023 07:34

@Alpacasoft do cloth bags offer the same protection as plastic ones? I had wondered if they could eat through them?

Technically if you have a bad infestation they might eat it but I have a very good system to avoid a major outbreak-think Mission Impossible 😂
They would eat all your summer clothes if that was the case and it's never happened.

I should add I've got masses of knitwear/ yarn stored this way and it's been fine.
The knitwear is all in either sealed drawers or in large zip top storage boxes with clear lids.
Each sweater is is in its own compartment iyswim ?
So a double barrier.
If ,and that's a big if because everything is chucked in the freezer, stored double with anti moth stuff, a moth survived, then it wouldn't be able to infest anything else.
I check yarn, fabric and clothes regularly.

AmethystMoonShine · 30/07/2023 07:58

Yes those are the ones @ScottishMouse 👍 I put one jumper in each.

Noodle421 · 30/07/2023 08:15

@ScottishMouse those are the bags I use @Alpacasoft good point about putting in only one jumper per bag. Can’t guarantee all knits are critter free before storing. Do you have a system of washing/ freezing/bagging your knitwear early spring ? As for the knitwear I wear over summer - I try to store it in a brightly lit area, I shake it out regularly and keep moth repellent close by, is there anything else I should be doing with pieces I wear during moth season? I am a bit twitchy - we had a proper moth infestation a few years ago in a wardrobe I used primarily for seasonal storage therefore left undisturbed for months - wool coat, the Nicole Fahri jacket I wore on my wedding day and numerous other items were ruined. I want to make sure my new jumpers don’t go the same way.

Noodle421 · 30/07/2023 08:20

I’m going to put one of those wasp sachets in the main wardrobe area.

TerrierOrTerror · 30/07/2023 08:22

I think I missed it in a previous thread, but what month balls or repellents do people recommend?

Ideally nothing with lavender as if it gets on my skin I have a horrendous spotty reaction.

Thanks!

Anything that comes into my house goes into a bag, then in the freezer for a few days, even if it's brand new.
Then I store in a bag with moth killer sachet just to be sure.
Then in a drawer or zip box compartment.
I wear, wash, then restore as above.
I don't leave worn / unwashed items around as they love that.
I should add that I have a vast amount of knitwear so everything gets worn on rotation
Probably wear twice before washing.
Moth season is all year round 😬
Even if you can't see them, they could be lurking as eggs/ larvae ready to hatch.

Noeggsontoast · 30/07/2023 08:50

@ToastCosILoveIt you must share photos of your repairs. Did you specify a particular approach or have you left it up to them?

The skirt is lovely and on my list for a sales purchase, I do like the style of the top too but haven't tried it as it's black which is not the best colour for me. The Alix striped trouser fabric does look lovely in the images.

I ordered the slub stripe cotton culottes yesterday in pomelo after their strong calling to me. I can see these working all seasons with the right tops and footwear. They'll be a nice pop of colour in winter too. I also ordered the neat v-neck navy melange cardigan and field flower print block bandana in damson to go with them. I hope the cardigan is as neat fitting as it seems to be in the images.

Noodle421 · 30/07/2023 09:03

@Alpacasoft thanks for all your advice X

Countmeout · 30/07/2023 09:35

That skirt is on my wish list for sale too. I am twitchy about the top as only S left online but uncertain about the colour next to my face, never mind the fit, and do I need it?. I have another holiday later in the year but other than that the weather is so poor. That said I wore the Fir dress yesterday having initially put on Annie jeans and that jersey tie neck top, turned and went back in to change as it was so close. It’s quite a substantial dress but was airier than the jeans, and later found a cardigan in the back of the wardrobe that looked quite good with it. I’m so glad to hear how the skirt fitted@ToastCosILoveIt as it says new sizing.

Glad to report @Laska2Meryls the dye job was a terrific success. I’m thrilled with the result. Just have to iron it now. It must have been garment dyed as no threads showing except on the button sewing and the buttons even dyed themselves. amazing!
