An opportunity to discuss styling all those clothes we have on temporary loan.

Edinburgh people: I am coming up to the festival for the last weekend. This is a big deal as I rarely go away ( or out) as I have to find alternative care for DD who is bed bound. But DH has a show on and I want to show my support ( it’s Bed at gilded balloon). What will the weather be like?!?!

That is the million dollar question we ask ourselves every day here! Today is overcast but very muggy. It is often rainy in august here. All my memories of queuing for festival shows involve rain. So pack an anorak for sure, but if you have one that will fold up into a bag that would be the best choice. Other than that, I would just watch the forecast like a hawk, it is soooooo unpredictable. Sorry, that’s not super helpful.

Dee1224 · 10/08/2023 12:53

Hope the show goes well @Sooverthemill - how exciting! A friend from years ago had a show at the fringe with a writing partner who is now incredibly famous. I was too young and daft at the time to appreciate what a big deal it was and it never even occurred to me to go and see it🙀

I am wearing one of my eBay Toast purchases today as a layer as the weather is so changeable. I was thinking of taking it to Toast exchange, but I seem to have found a use for it!

Countmeout · 10/08/2023 13:12

Oh no @Snowyowl78 , that’s annoying. Sizing is so unpredictable. I tried mine again after you said it was tight . I think mine is not loose but not unbearably tight and I keep finding things it goes with. My skirt is not due until tomorrow but I already have a number of bottoms to wear it with. Are you going to send both back?

@Dee I have been in an actual shop only a handful of times and have only seen something once in circle I might want to swop for and then it wasn’t the right size. Slightly slewed experience of it obvs.

faustina · 10/08/2023 13:30

@Brillenbar47 - thanks for the tip - off to look, although I imagine the sales this summer will be fairly amazing everywhere after the dreadful weather

@Dee1224 - I can't seem to remember anyone having anything positive to say about the swapping events, and they've been mentioned a few times on here as you can imagine. Have you tried the FB page? There are some really lovely things on there

@Sooverthemill - can't help with weather advice as I'm in Suffolk, but what an exciting thing to do - hope you have a brilliant time!

Dee1224 · 10/08/2023 13:37

Thanks for the feedback @Countmeout and @faustina - looks like I should give it a miss, then! (OH will be pleased😹)

Saurus72 · 10/08/2023 13:38

@Dee1224 I’ve been to a few and have taken things ready to swap, but each time have come away keeping my things. I’ve found the pieces look pretty old and tired, I wouldn’t try again tbh.

Dee1224 · 10/08/2023 13:41

Thanks @Saurus72

lordloveadog · 10/08/2023 14:36

Oh have fun @Sooverthemill! Sounds like you very much deserve a break.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/08/2023 14:46

I received my tie front poplin top too @Snowyowl78 . I know what you mean about the arm holes, but on me they’re a similar size to some non-toast sleeveless tops I wear, so not really a problem.

However, I’m wondering if the tie front makes my bust look huge. I need to try it with a few different bottoms and decide. Currently I don’t love it as much as I thought I would, but I’m feeling grumpy as I’ve been painting woodwork in the hot sun this morning.

I would also forego my 15% discount as I really can’t be bothered to keep hassling cs.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/08/2023 14:49

@Countmeout what have you found the poplin tie front goes with? I’ve had to tighten the bow to minimise cleavage, have you done the same?

Snowyowl78 · 10/08/2023 14:51

@Countmeout yeah I’ve sent both back. I must have a weird shoulder to pit ratio!
glad yours is working out

i also got the Breton tee which is lovely and I’m keeping. Got the large which I think I can wear alone or layered. Is expensive, but lovely.

Countmeout · 10/08/2023 15:27

Yes I’ve tied it really tight @Theteapotsbrokenspout
It goes with
The cotton leaf trousers (not sure how old , I got on eBay)
the cupro rust skirt
a pair of green Zara linen trousers , weird leg that does nothing for my hips but oh so cool and comfortable
the fungereek balloon trousers
think it will also go with the Brass Alex,
cheepo cream H and M wide leg crops,
a couple of other pairs of shorts
and hopefully tomorrow’s skirt.

Snowyowl78 · 10/08/2023 09:08

I have Heist tights which are the best I’ve found, the waistband is massive so more comfortable. I am still trying to phase them out though. Maybe I need some long boots for winter.

has anyone shopped at ‘Beyond Nine’? I have had a few pairs of trousers delivered, the linen trousers are lovely! Really comfortable and have an exaggerated shape which is very cool. I also bought some other cupro trousers which I am debating on currently…..

awaiting my poplin tank this morning from the postie!

I have the check linen trousers. Very gorgeous linen. Very exaggerated shape but I love that although if I was slimmer they would probably look better. I've seen a lot of their stuff on Instagram. I really love it bit it's still pricey.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/08/2023 16:22

I recieved the white blouse today from Toast. Really beautiful. It fits me fine but it's nothing like the lady on Instagram. It was huge on her. She must have been wearing a bigger size.
I've ordered the size up to. Compare. I.may keep neither as I can see ot being in a sale tbh.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/08/2023 16:24

Intact, on me, it's much more like the model shots in the sense of fit and shortness.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/08/2023 16:42

Thanks @Countmeout that sounds hopeful. I thought the colour would go with lots of things, it’s the flared bottom I wasn’t too sure about.

I notice toast have put it with the sea kelp skirt that I’ve got, so I shall try that as well. It’s also tied differently to how I’ve done it, much less bow like, that will probably work better with my bust as well.

Brillenbar47 · 10/08/2023 16:51

So this amuses me. Bought these trousers because of a review where someone described the colour as glowin like a Russian icon. Indeed it does. They are also hugely versatile. Look one - worn for hiking. This is the second time I have worn them walking. First time it rained seriously. Honestly I think they dried as quickly as any dry wicking fabric. Look 2 is a little smarter!!

Ooh @faustina so am I ( I live in Southwold)

dudsville · 10/08/2023 19:03

Such fast paced chat!

I love tights. I buy large enough to fit not tightly on my stomach. I like the wool falke for this. I'm not a big fan of leggings as that's a lot more material around the waist.

I have the snag tight shorts to prevent chaffing but agree that it feels a bit like being encased like a sausage.

It has been randomly sunny and warm enough here to warrant the pond check dress, so easy to wear.

@Countmeout
For some reason my links keep not working.

clowniform · 10/08/2023 19:14

@Brillenbar47 Fab pair of outfits, they really show how versatile those trousers can be. I do think Toast stylists miss a trick sometimes with the focus on slouchifying and under-dressing everything, sometimes I need more help dressing pieces up.
@Sooverthemill have a wonderful time in Edinburgh! I hope you get time for some yarn shopping during your visit as well 😁

Countmeout · 10/08/2023 19:48

I was surprised the flare worked @Theteapotsbrokenspout . What colours are in the sea kelp?

Never mind the yarn shopping @Sooverthemill , go to Toast, we all love a shop visit and report!

Noeggsontoast · 10/08/2023 20:04

@Sooverthemill @faustina me too!

We popped to Southwold last weekend in fact.

The seakelp is a kind of duck egg and brown. I'm not sure how the top goes with it. It's shown on the website with the sea kelp skirt.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/08/2023 20:11

@neveradullmoment99 I was trying to think how to describe the green in the sea kelp - duck egg is right.
I’ve held the top against it and it does seem an odd combination, hopefully I’ll get time to try it tomorrow.
