An opportunity to discuss styling all those clothes we have on temporary loan.

Just catching up after a long day and yes to loving these threads. I feel a bit 'safer' being on while there are no active sales, and the chat turns more to dissecting new drops and rediscoveries and reminiscences.
Fascinating to read @ilovecherries styling insider tips and another excellent tank-centred outfit. I love the idea of wardrobe curation and seasonal planing though haven't ever successfully executed a plan....

Glad to see fellow knitters here! Would love to see any things other Toasties have made or are planning 😍@Countmeout 'it looks very Toast' perfectly encapsulates my crafting goals!
@Sooverthemill I used 2 strands of JC Rennie lambswool (Pistachio) held with CaMaRose Midnatssol (Lime). Quite random but I wanted to use up the Rennie (leftover from another project), and the result is a bit cropped due to running out. Have since made another using just CaMaRose Snefnug (in tasteful greige) which is much more similar to the sample yarn. I was on ravelry from its very early days but now find it too overwhelming, so only nip on to buy the odd pattern unavailable elsewhere.

Sooverthemill · 08/08/2023 23:04

@clowniform thank you! I am a very keen knitter and often wear my stuff on the what are we wearing today thread. I am currently making this sweater, almost finished. It will have short sleeves I think. I’m making it as a test knit for the designer and I am very much in love with it.

Will look out those yarns. This is biches et buches yarn and uses roosamine technique. I like ravelry as a record and to see how projects look on other people!

Loving the clever knitters, I admire this skill so much. Also just adding in my love of this thread. When i had deleted it by accident it was a real loss. I couldn't access it at all from my laptop, my phone would let me in but any post left mn frozen to me for a while.

Not sure what I'll wear today but I'm inspired to try a new combination!

dudsville · 09/08/2023 07:45

I think someone has discussed this before but i can't recall... has anyone bought from the men's section for themselves? One thing that's getting more use in this non-summer we're having is the cord jacket I bought last sale. I will be keeping my eye out for other jackets in future sales but i tried a few others last sale and they didn't suit me, too swingy and a-line. I really like some of the men's; the monty japanese denim and the green arlo organic cord in particular. The longer arm length would be fine for me. I suppose i just need to go to a shop to try one on, but has anyone here bought menswear for themselves and can talk about the sizing?

Snowyowl78 · 09/08/2023 09:25

@dudsville i have 2 men’s jackets, I ordered both in a small, would normally be a medium/12 in the women’s. They both fit well and are fine on the arm length (I am small). I also have a men’s shirt also in a small.

This is new:

Panelled Stripe Check Dress | Sapphire/ Ecru | TOAST

Not really keen on it. I think the difference in pattern make it look faded.

There’s a wrap jacket that goes with that too! Can’t see anything else new

dudsville · 09/08/2023 11:40

Fab, thanks @Snowyowl78 ! Now to sit on my hands to see if they go in a sale...

ScottishMouse · 09/08/2023 11:41

Catching up and want to also add my love for this thread. Such a lovely supportive and helpful bunch.
Today I am in the vneck jersey dress with an old Toast breton underneath it again. Love this combo.
Just spotted the stack check jumpsuit in the wild. I wish that jumpsuits worked for me, she looked so great in it. Interestingly, she was wearing some black leggings underneath, that were just popping out below, a good way to make the light fabric work for more of the year (though you’d hope you wouldn’t need that in august, sigh).

I think the jackets nice👍

ScottishMouse · 09/08/2023 13:43

And another Toast jumpsuit out in the wild. The Lydia one this time. I am very tempted to order it, as it looked so good on the person, and I might just be able to make it work as there is some stretch in the fabric. Does anyone have this, or the vneck version? Is it as great as the vneck dress? What’s the fit/sizing of either like?

Snowyowl78 · 09/08/2023 16:40

@ScottishMouse i have the v neck one, it’s basically the v neck dress but with legs! It’s quite low in the crotch and I haven’t worn it as much as the dress. I find it hard to get on and off again and in fact i ripped the v on a night out! My local tailor fixed it for me for free but I have to be careful from now on. Fairly generous in size I got a medium which is what I get in most things. I think the normal Lydia might well be smaller as the dress certainly is in the original compared to the v neck.

Snowyowl78 · 09/08/2023 16:42

@ScottishMouse not a single review has mentioned getting it on and off so seems like I am alone with that!

ScottishMouse · 09/08/2023 17:04

Thanks @Snowyowl78. I may order both to try. Perhaps the Lydia one in blue because the one thing that annoys me about the vneck dress is that the black picks up every hair/piece of fluff around.

Oooh that's lovely @Sooverthemill
Beautiful work.

I've got 2 Roosimine projects in my queue. It's a new to me technique , one shawl, one cardigan.
Hoping it's not too difficult
I use Rav for queuing stuff, comparing and searching yarn, buying patterns etc.
Its a bit odd over there on the forums so I avoid
Plodding on with 4 rows of lace until I can crack on with plain stocking stitch part of this top.
Did anyone catch the Kim Hargreaves sale?
One of my favorite knitwear designers, she's winding up and put all the knitwear she's used in her books for sale at bargain prices.
Have a few beautiful pieces on the way.

Excited for the September drop now but it's warming up again here.

Stoic123 · 09/08/2023 19:57

Enjoying the knitting chat but nothing to contribute there I'm afraid.

Lounging in a Toast Kantha Gown. I have two and am thinking about wearing them outside this Autumn (just with a tee/denim). Does anyone have one and wear it outside? Seems a shame to keep them hidden.

lordloveadog · 09/08/2023 20:02

That gown is stunning, stoic! I've been looking at them for a while but haven't taken the leap because they're so expensive and you don't know exactly what you're getting. But I will one day.

I don't see why you shouldn't wear it outside. People seem to be wearing a lot of long cardie/jackets in different fabrics and with different degrees of structure.

Stoic123 · 09/08/2023 20:18

@lordloveadog - a bit hit and miss on what you'll get. I bought one in store and another off Vinted (still quite expensive) so knew what I was getting. I think some people have had luck calling Toast and asking for photos of a few options and selecting before buying.

dudsville · 09/08/2023 20:26

Ahhhhh @Stoic123 , those gowns are so wonderful, i always admire them! What colour did you choose, was it pinks? Blues? I love how unique each one is.

Stoic123 · 09/08/2023 20:37

@dudsville - this was classed as Blues and I've got a Reds one (which looks similar to the one on the model currently on Toast site).

Countmeout · 09/08/2023 21:47

Has anyone washed the balloon trousers. Does the colour run ?

ScottishMouse · 09/08/2023 21:50

Anyone who has the Turrell dress, what do you wear over/under it to make it wearable in seasons other than summer? The sleeves are quite wide and hard to fit under a cardigan/jacket. I’ve only managed to wear it once as the weather has been so rubbish.

clowniform · 09/08/2023 21:52

@Stoic123 I recently saw a fabulous woman wearing one of the kantha gowns out and about around Marylebone High St. She paired it with a vibrant teal headwrap, slouchy linen cropped trousers and fisherman sandals. And BRIGHT fuchsia lipstick. Not that I was staring creepily admiring or anything.
I also wear my shorter one out and about but with my most un-pyjama-y bottoms, and neater than usual hair, to counteract any possible robe vibes.

@Sooverthemill that's a lovely yoke and reminds me of some Toast embroidered pieces of recent seasons. I tried roosimine for the first time this year (Karelia by Midori Hirose) and liked it so much I bought Aleks Byrd's book on Estonian techniques😁

No help with jumpsuits (I am awkwardly short-waisted and enjoy peeing) but in Toast adjacent news, I did buy a bag from the Kate Sheridan sale (they're doing an extra 15% off sale if anyone fancies a look).

Stoic123 · 09/08/2023 23:21

@clowniform - I would be staring too. She sounds fab.

I have one of the shorter ones also and do wear that out and about (goes well over a black crinkle cotton dress I bought a couple of years ago). I think I'm going to be braver and do the gown.

Snowyowl78 · 10/08/2023 07:32

@ScottishMouse j just wear it with a pair of tights, although I’m trying not to wear tights

Countmeout · 10/08/2023 07:37

I wear my short one out quite often. It’s red colours but I bought it in person. My first one was long and bought online in greens and I was lucky I really liked the colour and pattern. I think they’re best bought in person though. I was going to wear it going on holiday in March 2020 as it was obviously cool here and I thought it would save taking a coat. Obviously that never happened, but now thinking of giving it an outing when I go later in the year. It’s definitely underused.
I also saw someone in one on Oxford Street possibly near where you turn up towards the Marylebone Road a couple of years ago, wonder was it that same woman.
