An opportunity to discuss styling all those clothes we have on temporary loan.

@Countmeout im concerned it might be too flared/ big on the bottom half but I couldn’t tolerate the armholes in the small, too close to my pits! Was ok everywhere else though, I think it’s meant to be pretty roomy.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/08/2023 14:23

Me neither. I hate half worn clothes!

Ha - I'm running through my second pass. They are all in a separate section of my wardrobe.

The things I avoided wearing last month have been stored away for a year (to see if I can reignite the love) along with a few items that are similar to others. More space in wardrobe to see things better.

The exercise has really driven home how much I already own. My intention is to be very, very careful about what I buy in future- keeping only things that bring joy. Having said that- let's see in the sale when I carried away by the frenzy! The sensible thing, of course, would be to avoid this thread but I do enjoy reading about your purchases/finds. And you are a lovely bunch. Dilemmas.

ilovecherries · 08/08/2023 17:43

I love these threads too, Stoic and would be sad to leave. It’s the only one I really follow and it’s dragged me through some tough times over the last three years. I feel very attached to it.

Agree re: how lovely this thread is. Clothes are important and it’s great to have people to share the obsession interest with.

Sums up my dilemma too, trying not to check in too often but I love seeing everyone's outfits.
Has anyone seen the curated wardrobe thread?
I'm very pleased with my wardrobe just now and glad I got over my fear of sending things back/ ordering different sizes.
Just need to conquer my fear of selling on Vinted.
I've sorted out and removed several bags over the last few months and it's lovely to be able to find things that I love and which fit me.
I'm concentrating on reviewing my AW wardrobe and have made a small list.
I've refreshed the moth proofing and sent my short winter boots for reheeling ( long already done)
I was the recipient of a toast voucher for doing someone a fairly hefty favour ( holiday saved) so am being sensible and will probably get a new pair of Annie's in black.
I still have the Walnut denim dress on my list to try but I think I might go back to trying on in a shop next time I'm in London.

@clowniform I love the apple green knitted tank ,beautiful!

One of the exercises we did on my course at UAL last week was to select 14 items (either fantasy or from our wardrobes) and create 60 outfits. I managed to get to 53 in the item which I thought was pretty good. It made me realise it’s not ITEMS I need but rather to focus on outfit building. Which - um - should have been obvious, but 🤷‍♀️

In the TIME, not in the item…

Wow!
Not sure I could manage that as I have tons of dresses but that's a great idea.
That dress is the same fabric as the other blue striped one , isn't it?
Not sure why Toast do this

My dilemma too ! Sounds like you have a lovely wardrobe. I’ve spent the last year selling on eBay. It’s been worthwhile as I’ve used the recycled money to fill gaps. I’m almost finished my project and need a break from selling - it can be boring and time consuming but I’ve done it at my own pace in spurts. Any items which haven’t sold will be given to charity by the end of September and then I’m closing shop. Pls can you provide a link to curated wardrobe thread, I’d love to read it?

That’s really interesting. How easy is it to put into practise? If I try and do something similar at home at least one thing in my clothing selection doesn’t work - the colour, proportion, length, belt not long enough to fasten on top of layering etc etc

Any more nuggets of information or tips from your course will be much appreciated. Did the experience inspire you ?

Countmeout · 08/08/2023 20:01

Did that 14 items have to include shoes and accessories @ilovecherries or was it just actual clothes. Sounds like fun to try.

Laska2Meryls · 08/08/2023 20:03

I like that idea @ilovecherries
I think that I am going to keep the new navy wide legs and sell my old ( unworn) indigo Mariner trousers, which when I tried them on again today, I actually wondered if the only reason that I kept them was Sale FOMO .. because actually I dont really think that they are really me..

One thing about having 3/4 of ones wardrobe packed up ( as I have atm because of decorating) is that I really can see what I really like and wear .. and tjat is the stuff that I have kept out .. Obviously this is just summer stuff.. In that 3/4 packed away is also my Autumn/ winter/ spring stuff that I know I will mostly wear again

Countmeout · 08/08/2023 20:06

And did it have to include outerwear? @ilovecherries

It did! I once trained as a CMB consultant but honestly would be embarrassed to do it with anyone. So formulaic and prescriptive. This was really interesting and came at it from an outfit building perspective. Also did a bit of work with vintage clothing. I just loved it.

the building multiple outfits from less than 15 items was fascinating. I tried to do it from my own wardrobe but did have to do a fantasy shop for a couple of items. We also did what they called module building where you started with one item that was printed in some way, and identified how you could build multiple outfits using that item as a core piece. I used a pink anhoki Toast shirt and built out from that and identified all the bits I’d need to buy to create multiple options. The underpinning premise was about doing wardrobe edits and styling outfits before you set foot in a shop.

There weren’t strict rules but we were encouraged to include shoes/belts/bags and a piece of ‘indoor’ outerwear eg jacket/blazer etc. Warm coats could be extra, as could jewellery.

I’ve bought a hanging rail and I’m using it to take stuff out of my wardrobe and create outfits, take flatlay photos and create my own inspo boards on my phone so when I get that ‘I’ve got nothing to wear’ feeling I can look at my phone for ideas.

Which all sounds very anal of me but handling my clothes and thinking about them makes me happy and relaxed.

All very fascinating @ilovecherries I will start to play around with my clothes too. I’ve found it very inspiring seeing various outfit combinations on here especially those trying to wear a different toast outfit everyday, I bet most of us have a few hidden gems in the back of the wardrobe.

Noodle421 · 08/08/2023 20:27

@ilovecherries not anal at all. Sounds like a good way to help overcome the constant desire to have something new.

Thanks @ilovecherries
I've just discovered this new thread and have posted several comments already . I think I’m a bit obsessed about wardrobe overhaul and am delighted and very excited to discover a brand new thread dedicated to my favourite subject 😂

mizu · 08/08/2023 21:41

@ilovecherries I don't think of myself as anal but all my clothes are permanently on a clothes rail and I love looking at them Grin - mostly dresses tbh but - I touch them as well as I walk past GrinGrin

My problem is that I definitely don't think about other items I already have when I see something I like.

mizu · 08/08/2023 21:49

Just looked at the curated thread. Vinted certainly is addictive. I've bought these two in the last couple of days for bargain prices.
