Seeking opinions on whether this is too frumpy?

Another wedding guest one…
Wedding abroad in likely 40 degree heat
Bride works in fashion and will have lots of fashion and influencer type guests in attendance
I feel very Mumsy in comparison!
I prefer a Midaxi/ maxi after pregnancy as I’ve got some lingering varicose veins

Trying to find a maxi in a fabric that’s not polyester and a colour that’s not lurid pink has been difficult…

This fits and I’d wear it at a weekend here but is it too meh for a wedding? And is it a bit too matronly on the chest?
Out of interest, what dress size do I appear?

Alternative suggestions welcomed!

It's pretty, I'm just wondering if it's formal enough for a wedding? Location? A country wedding with an outdoors ceremony, yes. City wedding in glam location...you may feel underdressed.

If linger length is your preference, would something like a top and wide legged trousers in a silky drapey fabric work for you?

TheDutchHouse · 16/07/2023 20:33

I have a couple very similar and west to work where dress code is casual. So maybe that clouds my judgement but I'd say too casual for a wedding. As for size it's hard to say without height but I'd say 14-16 ?

shivawn · 16/07/2023 20:33

It's fine but I'd want something more glam for a wedding to be honest. Size wise I'd guess you at a 12?

Sunshineandflipflops · 16/07/2023 20:36

I think it’s more of an every day dress than a wedding guest dress myself but you have a lovely figure and I’d say about a size 14?

DogDaysNeverEnd · 16/07/2023 20:39

I'd say its too casual. Have you looked at Phase 8? Maybe I'm way off the mark but I was just wondering past their consession today and they had some nice looking but slightly informal floaty wedding type wear.

girljulian · 16/07/2023 20:40

It’s a bit meh — a nice enough dress but quite an everyday one.

14?

Jongleterre · 16/07/2023 20:41

It's too tight around the middle and the top and too casual for a wedding.

You have a lovely hour glass figure and that dress is doing nothing for you and makes you look squashed in it.

Jongleterre · 16/07/2023 20:42

Size wise I would say you are a 12 waist but a 14 on boobs and hips.

ihatethecold · 16/07/2023 20:43

looks like a 14/16 but far too casual for a wedding.
whats your budget for a dress/ outfit?

It’s at a vineyard type location.
that’s a helpful suggestion, looking now!

Ideally under £80.

Also happy with the size feedback tbh- I’m an 18 at the moment at 5ft 10

I agree.

would you consider something like this?

Your figure is absolutely smashing.

Loafbeginsat60 · 16/07/2023 20:57

The link above is too casual too, the model has it on over a bikini - it's a summer day dress

Monsoon has nicer maxi dresses for a wedding

Sussurations · 16/07/2023 21:05

Yes, the reviews of the Boden dress even say the material is thin - I should
have checked before suggesting. Something floaty is needed for such hot weather though.

Verite1 · 16/07/2023 21:12

Yes - I agree with the person who said it was a bit meh. Ok for weekend daytime. Not for a wedding. I would guess 14 - but lovely hourglass shape.

RedRosie · 16/07/2023 21:43

I don't care what size you are (I'm no good at guessing anyway) but you have a lovely figure.

No-one will be looking at you, and that dress is fine so wear what makes you feel comfortable.

If it's going to be hot though, I might personally go for something floatier, in a natural fabric like cotton or a linen/linen mix, and preferably lined (also in a natural fabric). Or as someone else suggested drapey wide-legged trousers and a sleeveless top?

raisedbygrizzlies · 16/07/2023 22:05

Nicest dresses I've seen at weddings/ christenings this summer have been from Hope and Ivy - not bargain basement but they do have sales on and they're timeless. You do have a fabulous figure so flatter it

Horsedoglover59 · 17/07/2023 13:18

I really like the Asos dress above. You might like to look online at a company called Roman UK - I've bought a few things off them this summer and they seem to have some quite nice dresses or as suggested look at floaty tops and wide leg trousers. I'd go for a lower neckline, as you've obviously got a fantastic bust, but I don't think the dress you showed us is dressy enough. I hope you find something lovely and enjoy the wedding.

shakeitoffsis · 17/07/2023 13:23

Really don't like that OP it's very frumpy (gives me Amish vibes 😂), I think a beautiful maxi dress would suit your figure.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/07/2023 13:23

Hmm, not really suitable I'd say.

It could look a bit plain and drab in the bright sunshine abroad. Even in the pic it looks a bit greyish.

And yes a bit matronly about the chest. Sorry.

GoldDuster · 17/07/2023 13:32

You are gorgeous, that dress doesn't deserve you, keep looking
